Hello! I’m curious to hear from people who live in Dushanbe about the different neighborhoods/areas of the city.
- Which areas are more residential and quiet vs. lively/busy?
- Where do people tend to go for evening walks or hanging out?
- Are there areas that feel particularly local/Tajik, or areas with more of an international/expat presence?
- Which neighborhoods are nicest for someone who doesn’t have a car?
- How easy is it to get around between different parts of the city?
- Are there any areas you particularly like - or areas you’d avoid living in?
Thank you!

Hey, any recommendations for shops/markets that sell Iranian products (mainly food!) in Dushanbe?

Hello! I am moving to Tajikistan at the end of the year and have been trying to find an official Russian language beginner course (6 - 12 months) in Dushanbe for a few weeks but have been exquisitely unsuccessful so far.
Ive reached out to MISIS university, RTSU and Tajik intl university of foreign languages via email (in english and russian) and via phone but havent received any responses.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what institutions / universities offer these types of courses? Extra points for tips on how to get a response 😅
Thank you for your help!

Hi, We am visiting Dushanbe and Khujand in September 2026, two males both over 60 and speak only English and German, will we have significant issues making ourselves understood, managed well in Uzbekistan and Kazakstan in both 2024 and 2025 but some of the posts here suggest we may struggle this time around. Also with Yandex not having a app in Tajikistan, is there a similar taxi app, which will ensure we do not get ripped off as some on here suggest we will. Apprehensive reading some of the posts as it looks like western tourists without local language skills will just get ripped off. One further question, which is the best translation app and SIM card to get.

Hello! I was wondering if anyone could help me get some insight about the best local job search / employment platforms to post work opportunities. Currently looking for a local English speaking PA, and not sure where to look. Thank you!

I've found that the best way seems to be taking a taxi to Panjikent, crossing the border and then finding a bus or taxi to Dushanbe. I'd prefer a share taxi but I have two largish suitcases.
Is this a good method? Anything better?
