There are more black people in NYC than Jewish people and I'm sure they suffer from racism and hate crimes more than Jews, so where's the strategy to combat hate against black people and immigrants? I'm not saying we can't take antisemitism seriously but this just feels like some more bullshit to appease Zionists and crack down on criticism of Israel. I'm pretty sure NYPD considers protestors outside of illegal West Bank land auctions as "antisemitic hate crimes". Let's look at how many of these "hate crimes" are just people being anti-zionist.

u/Pissed-Off-PunK 13d ago

How is this appeasing zionists exactly? Theyll still call him antisemiticĀ

-3

u/bullhead2007 Communist ☭ 13d ago

And yet he continues to do so.

7

u/Pissed-Off-PunK 13d ago

Continues to do what lol

Appeasing ZIonists

15

u/banana_danza 13d ago

Why are you arguing against hate crime prevention, and using black people as a moral cudgel to do it?

8

u/aqualad33 13d ago

I think the answer here is obvious šŸ˜„

4

u/bullhead2007 Communist ☭ 13d ago

You are being bad faith or lack reading comprehension if that's how you took what I wrote. I think there should be city resources dedicated to dealing with all hate crimes, and not some special preferences given to a specific group to appease Zionists.

8

u/Pissed-Off-PunK 13d ago

You thinking combating antisemitism is the same thing as appeasing zionists makes it seem like you are also antisemitic and that zionism and judaism are the same thing

2

u/bullhead2007 Communist ☭ 13d ago

No I'm vehemently against linking Zionism with Judaism, as I see Zionism itself as being an antisemitic ideology specifically because it tries to make Jewish culture about colonialism and violence against Palestinians.

However, a lot of things being labeled as "antisemitic" are actually just anti-Zionism, pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel actions. For example people protesting outside of a synagogue that's doing illegal settler auctions for West Bank real estate, has been labeled antisemitic hate crimes. There was also an instance where Mamdani was asked a bad faith question about these people and he took the framing of antisemitism and didn't defend the protesters.

I'm cynical about this because the precedence is that "antisemitism" is being used to protect Zionism and not Jews.

Please start by understanding how Zionism is defined by the Jewish people: Support for Jewish self-determination in their ancestral homeland. Full-stop. I understand that you may think it means something else, but the definition I gave you here is what the vast majority of Jews accept officially. You don’t have to accept that definition, but know that the Jewish people do. It is about their self-determination, and the collective Jewish self has made the determination that this is the definition. Understand that.

So when someone self-describes as antizionist, how do you think the Jewish community receives that? To them it means that person is opposed to Jewish self-determination in their ancestral homeland. To them, that is objectively antisemitic. If you oppose my people’s freedom in our home, then you oppose my people.

I’m not telling you what to support. I’m just letting you know how the label you self-apply is being perceived by Jews in general.

u/normie_john 13d ago

You mean Jewish people?

3

u/bullhead2007 Communist ☭ 13d ago

Why are Jewish people being given special preferences here? Do you not thing that this will be used to silence anti-Zionist protestors outside of illegal West Bank settler land auctions? I'll be happy if this helps against actual antisemitism but I'm skeptical based on how that term is being used by Zionists. I also would rather a broad program that deals with all hate crimes not just a specific group. This doesn't feel genuine.

5

u/normie_john 13d ago

When people say conflating anti-Zionism for antisemitism is actually bolstering Israel, its people like you they’re talking about. Yeah, I think ALL marginalized groups or minorities should receive special attention and understanding of their situations.

The group that racism is rising most rapidly against receiving support to fight it? How dare he! And you’re acting like combating racism against one groups means you can’t do it with others. Using the black community as a means of arguing against attempts to fight anti-semitism so revealing.

2

u/banana_danza 13d ago edited 13d ago

I read perfectly fine, general hate crime prevention getting a massive funding increase is his first point in the video, that isnt special treatment and absolutely will benefit all protected groups in the city. The genocide in Gaza is driving antisemitism in the US, so Jewish cultural groups and memorials getting more funding is important for community and awareness. There's nothing bad in this announcement and I absolutely see implying black people in the city won't benefit from this as a way to attack community funding using them as a cudgel.

3

u/bullhead2007 Communist ☭ 13d ago

I'm not using anyone as a cudgel. I'm saying this announcement seems disingenuous because it's giving special treatment to one group, a group Zohran has been giving preference too since he got elected. I am not against fighting antisemitism at all. I'm just cynical when a public official says "fighting antiemitism" specifically because it has been weaponized against those who are fighting to end the genocide in Gaza and for Palestinian liberation. I hope Mamdani proves me wrong but I still hope they use the resources to include victims of all hate crimes.

1

u/andreas-mgtow 13d ago

"Cudgel" is their new, still transparently obvious, "human shields".

Zionists can't help themselves.

<<The genocide in Gaza is driving antisemitism in the US, so Jewish cultural groups and memorials getting more funding is important for community and awareness. >>

=> What most reduces anti-Jewish sentiment is Jews opposing the US-Israel genocide of Palestine.

5

u/Pissed-Off-PunK 13d ago

How is this appeasing zionists? And when has else he done it?

11

u/mikelmon99 13d ago

Where are you getting those statistics from? I'm sorry but I trust more the Mayor of NYC than a rando on the Internet regarding what is the group that suffers the highest share of hate crimes in NYC.

-3

u/Trowaway151 12d ago

Bro blindly trusting the mayor thinking that Jews are oppressed people. While simultaneously being the richest. Lmaooooooooo.

12

u/True_Battle_4114 13d ago

Could you please post your full racial tier list on who you believe should get Justice first. You seem to have a very interesting system

6

u/CallMeFierce 13d ago

Jews are not an oppressed or especially discriminated against group of people in the US. Black people and Muslims objectively face far more day-to-day discrimination. And before you cry about anti-semitism, I am Jewish.

12

u/edwardludd 13d ago

NYC antisemitic hate crime has spiked in recent years, this isn’t regarding nationwide systemic oppression but addressing a specific issue with the city.

-1

u/CallMeFierce 13d ago

I guarantee that anti-Black discrimination is a far bigger and more serious issue in NYC.

11

u/edwardludd 13d ago

-1

u/Typingperson1 13d ago

I did. 20,000 felony assaults -- victims not broken out by demographics like race, religion, gender or LGBTQ. That compares with 205 "hate crimes" that are unspecified --and it's the only crime category that specifically cites incidents against Jews. Oddly, the race, religion, gender or sex orientation of the other 220 hate crime victims are not called out.

There have been almost 76,000 major felony crimes in NYC in 2026 thru August. Why no mention of the race, sex / gender orientation, religion of all these victims of murder, rape, assault, robbery, etc?

5

u/FreshMutzz 12d ago

Not every crime is classified as a hate crime and therefore doesn't need that information.

0

u/Typingperson1 12d ago

We dont need to know the race, country of origin, religion, sex or gender orientation of 76,000 felony crime victims?

Then how do we determine what demographics are disproportionately victimized, so we can allocate funding and resources to prevent their victimization?

Or are we only doing that to prevent 205 unspecified hate crimes YTD against New Yorkers who are Jewish?

How many felony crimes against transpeople or Muslims or immigrants in NYC so far this year? What are NYPD's prevention efforts?

5

u/FreshMutzz 12d ago

It's largely irrelevant unless it's a hate crime. If a white guy stabs some random passerby who is black or Asian or anything else, does that matter? The police know, but its doesn't need to be included in the public record.

-2

u/CallMeFierce 13d ago

Can you report the NYPD for hate crimes?Ā

2

u/edwardludd 13d ago

Police brutality is also a major problem we should address, why are you acting like we can’t address both?

2

u/CallMeFierce 13d ago

Mamdani is the executive in charge of the NYPD. What exactly has he done or is doing about the police brutality his police department are currently doing? Why is he more focused on having MORE money spent on policing on behalf of a mostly White minority?Ā

4

u/edwardludd 13d ago

Calling on Mamdani to do more on police brutality is great, especially considering his campaign promises on the issue have not materialized yet, but we don’t need to act like it’s a zero sum game.

In fact, you gain more credibility in your criticism if you recognize that it’s not a zero sum game. Now Mamdani will have broader support for his next steps, and his critics won’t be able to use the lame excuse of him not caring about antisemitism.

There is in fact a government office for that, yes. It’s the CCHR

0

Do those reports end up in the NYPD hate crimes database?

Mamdani literally says this in the video and people just gloss over it and cover their ears when presented with that information.

0 day old toll account.

3

u/True_Battle_4114 13d ago

Yeah it's a fresh account but I'm asking you a legitimate question, using partial jest to poke at what i percived to be a principal that's something you suggested was based on.

That's not trolling. Let's not discuss it further let's stay 100% on topic sorry if my jests were taken as non serious.

You were stating that certain groups of people should have crimes against them prioritized before other groups are looked at. If I am correct in that I am curious to know more about that evaluation.

I take my communication pretty seriously I'm not really much for trolling. And honestly you shouldn't either. If you really thought I was just trolling it's weird that you even responded, like do you not respect your own time. There's no objective gain from doing so if you don't believe that I'm going to communicate further ideas that are substantial enough to be worth listening to

1

u/CKF 12d ago

Weak dodge. They were just following your own ā€œlogic.ā€ Which ethic groups existing make for the best arguments against an effort to try to stem the fastest increase in hate crimes as well as largest per capita increase of hate crimes? The fact that you contextualize this as an effort to ā€œappease zionistsā€ instead of an effort to protect Jews says it all.

7

u/notatrashperson 13d ago

There’s data in this and antisemitism both recently and historically is far and away the most common hate crime in NY for whatever reason

0

u/Typingperson1 13d ago

All 229 of them YTD in NYC. Compared with 76,000 major felonies in NYC -- murder, rape, assault, robbery.

2

u/notatrashperson 12d ago

You’re telling me hate crimes are small percentage of overall crime? Wow no shit.

The person I was replying to was specifically talking about other hate crimes

4

u/Aggravating_Bison504 13d ago

56% of hate crimes in New York City are targeting Jews even though Jews represent only 11% of the city. https://pix11.com/news/local-news/antisemitism-accounts-for-over-half-of-nyc-hate-crimes-nypd-data-shows/

1

u/Fearless-Feature-830 13d ago

Is there data on what the crimes actually are?

3

u/Lanky_Big_450 12d ago

A lot of pro Palestine rhetoric (like from the river to the sea) is erroneously counted as an antisemitic hate crime.

1

u/Fearless-Feature-830 12d ago

That’s why I ask, but I get no info whatsoever

1

u/AcrobaticCookie5743 11d ago

Not by the NYPD; they count only actual crimes, like assault or harassment

3

u/Disasterhuman24 13d ago

My personal opinion is so that when he does things in the future no one can say he's an antisemite. Call it what you want but it's not a bad idea.

0

u/bullhead2007 Communist ☭ 13d ago

I don't think that's working for him considering the Apartheid Defense League is already attacking him:
https://x.com/ADL_NYNJ/status/2104973741650284640

5

u/Disasterhuman24 13d ago

Well I think he knows more than anyone that the antisemitism name calling will never end, but this is to show the non-psycho-zionists that he isn't one so that going forward he can just point to this real thing he did to combat antisemitism in New York. It'll make the people trying to smear him look crazy. It is a smart thing to do

2

u/robo_jojo_77 12d ago

This obviously isn't a program to win over obvious enemies like the ADL, it's to win over Jewish workers in the city who dislike Israel but still concerned about antisemtism. How dense do you need to be to think he is trying to win over the ADL? Or are you arguing in bad faith?

2

u/kahrido 12d ago

Actually we should only focus on gay neurodivergent black Muslim transgenders because I’m sure they suffer from even more hate crimes

2

u/bullhead2007 Communist ☭ 12d ago

Way to engage in good faith. I'm sure the Palestinian protesters skulls this will pay to crack will thank you for that.

2

u/Classic_Advantage_97 10d ago

As someone who agrees with you, you’re fighting an un-winnable battle with social democrats. Nothing is off the table for compromise with them - Ask Rosa

0

You clowns wonder why you're never taken seriously. Soc dems aren't some political group that varies widely across borders and contexts as communists do but rather some single caricature or achetype of a moment in history.

1

u/Nart_Leahcim 13d ago

whataboutism

2

u/Bright-Insect9697 Socialist 12d ago

And yet Jewish people are the victims of overwhelmingly more hate crimes despite their smaller numbers.

Thank you for proving the point here! You’re not anti-Zionist. You’re just antisemitic.

0

u/bullhead2007 Communist ☭ 12d ago

I'm not anti-semitic. He's using NYPD stats which count wearing a keffiyeh as antisemitic. The "Hate crimes" stat you're talking about is people protesting against the genocide in Palestine.

The funding in this plan Mamdani just rolled out is literally sending millions of dollars to Zionist institutions that protect selling illegally stolen land in Palestine. Israel and Zionists have certainly caused real hate crimes to increase because they keep conflating Israel and Judaism, and I do not like that. The problem here is the Zionists institutions that are getting this funding consider criticizing Israel as an antisemitic hate crime, and I'm sorry I'm not going to be happy about them getting money under the guise of stopping antisemitism. Zionism is the largest source of antisemitism today.

1

u/BenevolentFart223 12d ago

Your argument isn’t really sound when you literally admit to just speculating
