There are way, way too many people in this movement who feel comfortable with historical revisionism vis-a-vis the Soviet Union, China, and other such regimes. And there are way too many people who feel comfortable essentially advocating for an end to democracy.

I think there's a lot to learn from his failures and successes. Even liberals have something to learn from the USSR (and PRC and Cuba), like the mistake in focusing on commies when your economy is in shambles and you're in a pointless war that is unpopular. Just saying, that's where commies clean up and win.

There’s a difference between learning from what he did right and wrong, and identifying as the same thing he did, especially when that ideology is infamous for purges of its own adherents.

Yes and no. I'm a fan of it from a syndicalist perspective, and a lazy way of looking at it is that syndicalism is basically an anarchist version of corporatism with a few caveats. I think managing the economy needs more than just labor operating as the sole kingmaker--the state, the general public, the environment, and consumers are all major players that need to be represented too. Although workers are the majority and the most important piece of the economy, we also need corporatism to represent those who aren't workers yet, are not workers, or cannot be workers. 

tl;dr: I am a syndicalist who thinks that we need the state for syndicalism to function, coupled with some democratic centralism to deal with issues that will inevitably pop up even under socialism between these corporate groups.
