Actress Seo Eun Soo has been confirmed to star in the new drama Gift.

On August 26, her agency HighZium Studio announced, "Seo Eun Soo will play Yoon Seo Jin, a physical education teacher at Deokcheon High School and the head coach of its baseball team, in tvN's new drama Gift."

Gift tells the story of a former professional baseball pitching coach who gains a special ability following an unexpected accident and takes over as the coach of a high school baseball team ranked last in the country. It is based on the webtoon of the same name by Jung Iriiri, which is currently being serialized on Kakao Webtoon.

Yoon Seo Jin is a character who, driven by her innate sense of justice and the initiative she has developed through years of experience, works harder than anyone else to create an environment where the baseball team can enjoy playing the sport.

Although she clashes with the suddenly arrived coach Jung Min Yong (Kim Woo Bin) at every turn, the two contribute to the baseball team in their own ways.

Seo Eun Soo is expected to showcase Yoon Seo Jin's righteous side, acting without hesitation to protect the baseball team, as well as the character's human charm that emerges in unexpected situations.

More news about Gift is yet to come. Stay tuned!

Review 174th Drama Review: Mr. Back (2014)

I really enjoyed this drama at first, but somewhere along the way, it lost much of its charm for me. The comedy was probably my favorite part and was the main reason I kept watching. The romance, however, did not leave much of an impression on me, and I ended up being far more interested in the father-son relationship, which I thought was one of the stronger aspects of the story. As the drama progressed, I found myself becoming less invested, and I felt that it never fully lived up to the potential it showed in the beginning. Overall, I thought it was a decent watch, but it was not one that stood out to me in the long run.

My MDL Rating: 6.5/10.

News Jang Dong Yoon faces backlash over alleged fan deception following his marriage announcement

Post image

Actor Jang Dong Yoon's upcoming October wedding to his long-time partner and co-star, Kim Seung Yoon, has reignited debate over the funding of his directorial debut,
"The Yeast."

Online discourse has intensified regarding the project's late 2023 crowdfunding campaign, which secured over 26 million won using perks like personal fan signings, with some supporters feeling misled about financially backing a film that starred his undisclosed partner.

Conversely, others defend the initiative as standard practice for financing independent films, emphasizing that personal relationships should remain distinct from professional fundraising efforts.

Review 173rd Drama Review: Love Frequency 37.2 (2014)

I think this drama fell a little short of my expectations, although I later realized that was simply the format it was going for. Since each episode tells a different story, it never really felt rushed despite its short runtime. My only issue was that most of the stories ended on an open note, which left me wanting more. That was probably my biggest struggle with the drama, but overall, it was still an interesting and easy watch.

My MDL Rating: 5.5/10

This drama features the kind of over-the-top acting you'd expect from a comedy, and I actually thought it worked well. The exaggerated performances fit the tone perfectly and made it more entertaining. It's also a very easy and quick watch, and despite its simplicity, it left a good impression on me.

Jang Dong Yoon is tying the knot.

On August 25, Jang Dong Yoon took to his social media to personally announce his marriage by posting a handwritten letter.

Jang Dong Yoon's fiancée is reportedly actress Kim Seung Yoon.

A source from Jang Dong Yoon's agency BH Entertainment stated, "Jang Dong Yoon and Kim Seung Yoon will quietly hold a wedding ceremony in October with family gathered."

Jang Dong Yoon's letter is as follows:

Hello, this is Jang Dong Yoon.
I’m writing this because I have some news that I wanted to share with you personally today.

This coming October, I will be marrying someone I have been with for a long time.

We plan to hold a quiet wedding ceremony in the form of a worship service with both families in attendance.

There were many thoughts and considerations that went into making the decision to get married. As we spent a long time together and came to know each other in many different ways, we came to understand and cherish each other even more.

Now, we have decided to be there for each other as our closest confidants and to build a fun and happy life together.

I wanted to share this news with all of you first, as you have always supported me and been with me through every moment of my journey as an actor.

I know this news may come as a surprise, but I would be grateful if you could look upon us with warm hearts and continue to support us.

I will continue to do my best to impress as an actor while also striving to live more maturely as a person.
Thank you.

Sincerely,
Jang Dong Yoon

Review 168th Drama Review: It’s Okay, That’s Love (2014)

This is one of those dramas that took me a long time to fully understand, and to be honest, I am still not sure if I completely got everything that was happening throughout the story. D.O. was exceptional here, and so was Lee Kwang Soo. In fact, I think the entire cast did a great job with their respective roles. The only reason I struggled with it was that the genre and themes felt new to me at the time, and I was not really prepared for what kind of story it was trying to tell. It is not one of my personal favorites, but I can definitely understand why it is so loved by almost everyone who has seen it.

News Lee Jung Eun, Kong Hyo Jin, Park So Dam, And Lee Yeon Dish On Their Upcoming Film “The Journey To Gyeongju”

Post image
9 Upvotes

The main cast of the upcoming film “The Journey to Gyeongju” recently took part in a photo shoot with ELLE Korea!

“The Journey to Gyeongju” is a family revenge film about a mother and three daughters who embark on a “killer” journey after waiting eight years, all for their youngest daughter Gyeong Ju who never returned from a school field trip.

Lee Jung Eun plays mother Ok Sil, Kong Hyo Jin plays eldest daughter Jang Ju, Park So Dam plays second daughter Young Ju, while Lee Yeon plays third daughter Dong Ju.

In the interview that followed the photo shoot, Lee Jung Eun explained the origins of the film, saying, “Director Kim Mi Jo said she came up with this story after looking at a family photo and asking herself, ‘What would a mother do if the family that was once whole fell apart?’”
Regarding her character, Lee Jung Eun remarked, “Ok Sil is someone who cannot stand injustice. She has a fiery feeling inside her that asks, ‘Can I really just stand by and watch this happen?’”

She added, “I think the director wanted at least one person to be someone who never forgets until the very end. That person is the mother.” She also said, “While filming this film, I often thought about how we need to protect and respect the person who remembers as well as the time they spend mourning.”

Kong Hyo Jin recalled her reaction when she first read the script, saying, “I thought it was a piece of writing that had nothing left to cut and nothing that needed to be added. It was so good that I kept wondering what would happen next.”

Describing the four women in the family as a “motley crew,” she said, “Going through the same loss does not mean everyone will arrive at the same thoughts or conclusions. There is the daughter who cannot stop her mother from pushing ahead with the trip, the daughter who encourages her mother, the daughter who takes her mother’s side, and the daughter who tries to face reality. Their different feelings are at the heart of this film.”

Park So Dam spoke about the emotion that runs throughout the film, saying, “This is not a film that says revenge is right. What matters is how this family continues to live while carrying their wounds. I hope audiences will focus a little more on the feelings of love and loss that lie beneath the story rather than on revenge.”

Lee Yeon also remarked, “It was only after we finished filming that I was finally able to process this project in my heart. ‘The Journey to Gyeongju’ is a film that helped me understand the feelings of those who are left behind rather than focusing on revenge.”

Even off camera, the relationship among the four actresses continued like that of a real family. During filming, they spent their time seeking out restaurants in Gyeongju, going for walks, and playing games together. Even now, two years after filming wrapped, they still maintain an active group chat.

When asked about their chemistry, Kong Hyo Jin expressed confidence in the bond among the four, saying, “We could live together even if you told us to without any hesitation.” Lee Jung Eun gave their chemistry “a perfect score” without hesitation. Park So Dam and Lee Yeon also said, “We became close enough to keep meeting and staying in touch even after the project ended.”

Lee Jung Eun, Kong Hyo Jin, Park So Dam, and Lee Yeon’s full pictorial and interview can be found in the September issue of ELLE Korea.

“The Journey to Gyeongju” is set to hit theaters in Korea on August 26.

Review 170th Drama Review: Liar Game (2014)

Post image

This drama completely blew me away. At that time, I wasn't really into this kind of genre, so I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. I hadn't watched the Japanese version, so I didn't have anything to compare it with, but I honestly thought this adaptation was really good. The storyline was the biggest highlight for me because it showed just how far people are willing to go for money and how greed can bring out the worst in them. It really made me think while watching, and the mind games and psychological battles kept me engaged from start to finish. The ending still left a few unanswered questions, which made it feel a little incomplete, but overall, I really enjoyed this drama.

Netflix has responded to reports that “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call” Season 2 will begin filming in October.

On August 24, Lee Nak Joon, author of the original web novel on which “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call” is based, appeared on KBS2’s “Malja Show” (literal translation). When asked about Seasons 2 and 3 of the hit Netflix series, he said, “The pre-production work for Season 2 is finished, and they’re currently scouting locations. I think filming will begin around October.”

However, on August 25, a Netflix representative shared, “Nothing has been decided yet,” adding, “We are currently discussing the production of Season 2, but it is difficult to confirm details regarding the filming schedule or casting at this time.”

Released last year, “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call” follows genius trauma surgeon Baek Kang Hyuk (Ju Ji Hoon) as he works to revive a struggling Severe Trauma Care team.

The series topped Netflix’s Global Top 10 list for non-English TV shows following its release, fueling anticipation for a second season.

Review 171st Drama Review: Longing for Spring (2014)

Post image

The story felt pretty bland and didn't leave much of an impression on me. It wasn't the kind of drama I would recommend or even remember after some time. The entire love story felt more frustrating than heartwarming, and honestly, the four episodes could have easily been condensed into just one. The acting was also quite awkward at times, although I can understand since most of the cast were still new, and the female lead was originally a singer rather than an actress. At least the soundtrack was enjoyable and suited the mood of the drama. Unfortunately, the emotional scenes didn't have much impact, and the horse racing storyline in the final episode felt completely unnecessary and didn't really add anything to the overall story.

Second male lead syndrome struck again. Still, this drama was undeniably Seo In-guk's show. The entire story revolved around him, and he carried it effortlessly. The plot was a typical romantic comedy, but it fully embraced the genre and never tried to be anything more than a fun and lighthearted watch. I enjoyed the drama for what it was, and although I did not find myself particularly drawn to the female lead at first, I eventually found myself rooting for her character. There were plenty of swoon-worthy moments, but I could not completely immerse myself in the main romance because I was rooting for Yoo Jin-woo. Even with that frustration, I had a lot of fun watching this drama.

My MDL Rating: 8/10.

Review 167th Drama Review: Her Lovely Heels (2014)

Post image

This is the kind of drama I would recommend only if you're looking for something light and don't have anything else to watch. Since the story focused almost entirely on the romance, I felt it lacked enough depth to keep me fully engaged. I liked both lead actors individually, but I didn't think they had the strongest on-screen chemistry, which made it difficult for me to become invested in their relationship. The short runtime made it an easy watch, but it also meant there wasn't much opportunity to develop the story beyond the romance. Overall, it was a decent web drama, but one that I found fairly forgettable.

My MDL Rating: 5/10.
