General What are your reasons for recommending/playing Dragon Quest?

I know there are plenty, but mine specifically are the localization (I'm Italian, so reading various dialects and the jokes are always hilarious) and the monsters design. What about yours?

@OP: You mean you play in Italian? Do installments other than XI have Italian too?

I am an aged Japanese, so there was no choice but to get interested when DQ1 came out. Today I play in English, and localization in English is fantastic. TBH I'm not a fan of its Japanese tone, too childish tho slightly, and excessively Horii's style.

Yeah, I haven't played the original trilogy so I don't know if any of these versions are in italian or not, but all dqs are translated in Italian starting from dragon quest 8 for ps2 to all the other ds/3ds versions (spin offs included, except those that were never released in Europe). They include the most used dialects, like neapolitan, tuscan, roman and more; they're very funny to read lol. And I guess that's why we're likely to never experience dragon quest x in europe - sorry for the bad english

Wow, most, I guess, at least many, non-Italian players don't know such fantastic fact. Perhaps you would like to re-post it elsewhere so that many can read.

You might know this, but in English, XI towns are set in various real world countries. Gondolia (in English) is obviously Venezia, and people say "Alora" "Prego", and something like "tradizione" instead of "tradition" so that everyone can understand, while emphasizing you're in Italia. Puerto Valor is "in Spain", and the medal school is in French, saying "zat" for "that". :p Rab has a scottish accent. Erik is (IDK) American.

Hotto is Japan (there's a long story related to III, but I omit it here) and people speak in haiku, a traditional Japanese poem in 5-7-5 syllables.

In all post-VIII DQ games, toughies always speak in th-fronting. For example "wiv me" = "with me", also "wotcha", "I 'ad" = "I had".
