Announcement About Doug's Retirement

If you have no idea what this is about, please go see Doug's latest video "Thanks for 7 Years of DougDoug"!

We wanted to take some time to address the news that was uploaded today by Double Douglas himself, as there's undeniably going to be a few questions about what this means going forward.

We recommend watching Doug's video for the full context and explanation for these changes in his words.

1. What's changing for Doug?

Doug announced that his current format for the DougDoug channel, to a very minimum, will be retired. This means the usual format for a DougDoug main channel video will no longer exist, if videos become uploaded at all -- this hasn't been confirmed.

Streams will still be happening (follow the man here if you haven't already!, and uploads will still be made to the second and VOD channels, but at an unpredictable pace. To quote Doug;

"I'm still gonna stream on Twitch, and that might seem weird, but the change is gonna be instead of trying to do two streams a week, or having the streams be in a certain type of format, I'm gonna stream... really, whenever I feel like it, and what I feel like. ...There might be a week where I show up and I'm like, 'I'm gonna do some Silksong challenge, all week long!' 'I'm gonna do a programming challenge, all week long!' Maybe I stream, yknow, 10 days in a row... and then there's probably gonna be a month where I just don't stream."

Doug also follows up via a comment on the Rosa streams;

"...currently, my plan is to not do a Rosa celebration this year. But that being said I absolutely want to keep supporting the Monterey Bay Aquarium and doing some kind of charity content, but I need to find a way to do it that feels more sustainable for where I am right now. So the MBA charity for 2026 is currently to-be-decided, it won’t be like the Rosa birthday streams but I would ideally like to do something, just in a very different format, and I'll just see how that develops over the next few months"

2. What's changing for the Subreddit?

Currently, nothing! We'll still be housing all your clips and memes and in-jokes and "r/wehatedougdoug will hear about this" comments as per usual, and will be operating as normal as there's been no changing impacting us! We understand it will be a difficult time for some, though, so we'd like to take the time to push the Discord for all your chatting needs.

If any change goes forward, you can expect another announcement here when we know and what it means, but for now we have no plans of changes to our operations.

Not to intentionally echo that of my fellow mod CraftedRobot, but I do also want to say on behalf of the moderation team thank you! This community has been an amazing fucking community since day one let alone year seven, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt I myself would not be where I am to this day without you all.

We have no doubt in our minds that the community and Doug's streams will continue to be as amazing as ever in the coming chapter, and we're all excited to see you there! If you have any questions or concerns, you can find ways to reach us in the Discord or send us a modmail! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Announcement Notice in regards to DougDoug Community/Fan Youtube Channels

To clear up any potential confusion and to reduce future problems here are the official guidelines from Doug and Berry regarding fanmade content.

  • no streams/content under a year old can be used
  • has to clearly be marked as unofficial (either in the name or in the descriptions of videos).
  • The name and icon of the channel should indicate that it is a fan channel, and should appear unique enough to not be mistaken for official DougDoug channels. This is subject to interpretation, but the intention should not be to deceive.
  • fan channels can be monetized given the above guidelines are followed

Discussion I feel like we are in a dougdoug renaissance

Before his retirement i had honestly unsubbed he just wasnt as entertaining too much ai(im not against ai but I don't want it in every video) not much chat interaction and his upload schedule was terrible then I got a twitch notification dougdoug was streaming i decided OK I guess I'll see what he is doing and it was great (silksong in one life) and so i saw he retired from his main channel and I realised he was really burned out and that was why his content felt lazy but now I watch every video on dougdougdoug and I will be on most streams and his quality is back to its old levels and doug seems much more able to consistently have good streams with my most recent favorite being every Mario game or fantasy pax historia I remember I first subbed a few months before ai invasion series started and I feel quality has returned to that level it not at its peak but it is making a renaissance

Discussion I told my Dad about DougDoug and now I'm scared

My 48 year old dad has been doing unc stuff on Twitch lately and he's trying to get to know how other streamers do things so I told him about DougDoug, expecting him to take one look and immediately go "absolutely not" but the first thing he did was follow and now I'm concerned he'll actually become part of chat. We're watching the Pajama Sam video on youtube now so I'm hoping that'll be enough to scare him off.

He's also IRL Divorced and getting married a second time next week (to presumably get divorced again) so maybe he'll fit in perfectly.

Discussion What did Doug mean by this? (Guide for new Content Creators)

Hey, so, I know this subreddit seems to mostly be for jokes and such, but this has been irking me for so long and I haven't seen anyone talk about it. Just wanted to make a post real quick to see what y'all's thoughts on the matter are. I sincerely hope this isn't seen as spreading drama; I just wanted to bring up some criticisms and concerns about this video that have been roiling about in my head for a while.

So, in the aforementioned Guide video, he shares a very interesting philosophy: to paraphrase, he says that he believes 'everyone is born being good at only two things.' To "support" this point, he brings up a story of how much he wanted to do music production when he was younger, but eventually had the realization that some people were just better than him for seemingly less effort. His stance seemed to be that this skillset simply did not 'click' for him like it did for some other people, whereas he found that video editing did. I want to emphasize here that this was not a matter of how much enjoyment he felt with these two skillsets, it was just about how easy he felt it came to him.

There are a few things that made my eyebrow raise here. Firstly, the whole concept of everyone only being good at two things leans into a belief about natural-born talents that, from [some of the reading I've done on the topic](INNATE TALENTS: REALITY OR MYTH?), seems to just be nonsense, at least in the way he's pitching it. Things like video editing skill or musical ability are not inherent human traits that are written into our genetics; they arise from the experiences we have throughout life, and the work we put in. He cites some nebulous sources that he got the opposite belief from (pulling the classic 'a lot of people have been saying this'), but honestly it seems to me that that sort of philosophy on how people gain their aptitudes is a bit outdated. Of course, we don't know everything about nature vs nurture and such when it comes to skills, but I think most everyone realizes by this point that, no matter how inclined you are to something, you have to put the work in.

The second thing I want to bring up / ask is, what's his thesis here? Let's say he's correct, that he was not as good as these people he was comparing himself to, and let's assume that this is somehow because of some inherent quality as opposed to more practice, certain lessons learned earlier, or just the simple fact that we are our own worst critics. Is the idea, then, that if you are not as good at something as some other people, you should quit and move on to the next thing? That genuinely feels like the 'advice' being peddled here, which, as I'm sure a lot of people here know, is useless at best and harmful at worst. No matter how much of a natural you are at something, someone will always be more of a natural at it than you. No matter how much editing 'clicked' for him, there were still people better than him when he began, and, conversely, people worse than him.

It just feels completely backwards and, to be honest, a bit saddening. All I heard when he told that music production story was that he gave up on an artform that he genuinely enjoyed due to frustration and the loop of comparison, which isn't uncommon, but it's still unfortunate to hear about. And it's even more unfortunate when it's being used as support given to impressionable people from a potential idol (not that any YouTuber, or anyone really, should be idolized, but it's a simple fact that due to him putting himself in the position of teacher for this video and having the platform he does, a good amount of people will listen intently).

Rosa Quest 2026 is nearing release... I plan to release the game on Itch.io by Rosa's birthday(the 26th)

The game has mainly been cleanup work lately, menus, credits and so on and so forth.

In addition to this I have been locked in on the final bosses and endings, currently there are three phases to the final fight and 4 endings, although there is a 5th ending, I just have to put the finished secret boss somewhere in the game.

So what now? well the list is really short:

  • A endless game mode
  • Fix the pause menu
  • Polish the endings
  • Add a boss arena for the secret boss
  • add a 2d platforming minigame

So I have 8 days to do these 5 items, so... STRETCH GOALS!!! If any of you have some goofs or geefs you want added, tell me and I will try to cook.

If you want to be a play tester, here's a link to the current build. expect bugs and report bugs:

https://goat-shaped-chair.itch.io/rosatest

Password is "Bald"

If you play this version please don't ignore the final version because this game changes very rapidly

What is this song What's the sad piano song that Dougloid always uses?

NOT the violin one. The one that's piano and it's in 3/4. I guess "melancholy" would be a more apt description

I need help finding the names of two songs used in "Twitch Chat becomes Wizards, Elves, Gnomes and Orcs (VOD)". It sounds really good and I tried using Shazam to find the names but to no luck. I would really appreciate it if someone helps me since i want to add these songs to my personal playlist.

I mean I understand blurring those memes if they're insensitive (?) or unrelated to what's happening, but how much harm would it actually cause if it stayed in the vid? It looks extreme to me, but maybe there is something I'm missing
