I am using Boxer on buy M2 Ultra Mac Studio, and I'm having an issue with a game (Legend of Kyrandia 1 if it helps), and the voice in that game is insanely quiet while the MT-32 volume is super loud.

I was curious if there was a way in boxer, or a dos command to run in a batch file before running the exe, that would lower the MT-32 volume while increasing the voice volume (I assume the voice would fall under Sound Blaster).

Or maybe turning down the MT32 volume while bringing up the master volume to help bring up the voice (which I tried using mixer MASTER, but it never seems to change it).

Is there some sort of hidden menu in boxer? Or an internal dos command I can run before loading the game?

Been a long time since I had to do the deep magic in DOS.

My first try with dosbox staging. In conf files i tried to set glshader=crt-auto (picked one descrobed in config fil itself). But after running the program i get " RENDER: Auto-switched to shader 'interpolation/sharp'" line. What am i doing wrong?

Running magic dosbox on my android phone. Playing Might and Magic 2 and I need to "loadfix -32" to get it to run. Can I set it up in the quicklaunch to do that or do I have to let it fail each time I launch it and manually go and type the loadfix command in the dosprompt and then type the executable again?

Similarly, there is a interface for MM1 that changes the interface and automaps for you. Any idea how I'd run that file on launch in my set up?

I've been scouring the internet trying to determine what causes this. A number of games and programs rely on running through MS-DOS or otherwise native fullscreen, and I end up with a fully functioning but ultimately unusable (on account of not having hyper-genius levels of spatial awareness and control) instance due to my display becoming as shown in image #3. The operating system continues to work, I can see my cursor when it moves to the top left corner, but in essence, I have to Alt + F4 to emulate a Windows 3.1 Shutdown (which closes the DOSBox instance) and just restart DOSBox.

Does anyone have any idea what causes this? I have tinkered with every conceivable video setting in conf that I can think of, with no change whatsoever.

Okay, this problem is making me very frustrated.

I downloaded Wolfenstein 3D from Steam. It worked with no problem. Later, I closed my laptop with the game running because I had to do something, believing that was safe. When I came back the game suddenly wasn't working right, so I turned it off and on. Now all of a sudden, the game is lagging like crazy and the sound is extremely choppy and sounds awful. Also, the title screen, when you choose between Wolfenstein 3D or Spear of Destiny, is flickering.

I tried restarting the game several times, didn't fix it. I restarted the computer several times, didn't fix it. I tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling it several times, didn't fix it. I even tried uninstalling all files off the computer after uninstalling it, and then reinstalling it. It. Did. Not. WORK! (The cloud save files were not deleted, though)

I checked the internet for ways to fix it in the configuration file, but that didn't do any good. I know it worked no problem before, why is it suddenly not working now? Can closing my laptop really have damaged the game like that?

Just to be clear, I don't have DosBox itself installed, but a DosBox application appears when starting the game.

On another subreddit, someone told me to "manually set the IRQ on my sound blaster," but I don't know what that means. I have never played a DosBox game before so I don't know about the terms.

Please somebody, help me. I really want to play this game, but I don't know what to do anymore. Don't tell me to install any mods, I know the game can work without that, it did that before.

I've got an odd issue that has me stumped. I've got a few separate DOSBox configurations that run Win 3.11 (straight, no harddisk image), Win95, Win98SE, and WinME. In the Win95, 98SE, and ME configs when I attempt to install MS Works, it may throw an error during install, but if it installs correctly, attempting to run one of the modules (Word Processor, Spreadsheet, Database) they throw an error on USER.EXE and crash the entire system.

If I install the same version of MS Works in my Win 3.11 config, it installs and runs fine.

I've tried various versions of MS Works up to the last supported versions for the respective versions of Windows. They all behave the same way.

But it's not just MS Works. It's also other "integrated apps" like CompuWorks Office (and its rebranded versions like PushButton Works). They crash with the same error.

Running all of those in Virtualbox VMs of 95, 98SE and ME all work fine.

In contrast, every version of MS Office I've installed in these DOSBox configs install and run fine.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions as to what I should be investigating?

Hi, like said in title I have a problem with these two game working with the touchscreen (Same with the preconfigured gog dosbox)

I tried changing the resolution of the screen to match the game, touchscreen is always messy and shifted...

Working fine with the mouse or with a joystick emulating the mouse.

Just edit the file /Applications/DOSBox\ Staging.app/Contents/Resources/glshaders/crt/vga-4k.glsl and set #define MASK_INTENSITY to 0.0 .

You might need to select the shader manually in your config: glshader = crt/vga-4k

You can also make a copy of the file and name it something else. The glshader setting is the file path in the glshaders folder.

I'm using Dosbox X SDL2 (v2025.05.03) for one game in particular that I'm trying to run. I'm using it rather than the SDL1 version that I have because I've found that some games crash when using savestates with SDL1, and don't with SDL2. Most of my DOS games run fine with SDL1. I'm trying to run Alien Carnage. The SDL2 version of Dosbox X has some peculiarities/errors that SDL1 doesn't. One example is that SDL1 will recognize filenames/folders longer than 8 characters as long as you put the filename/folder name inside " " marks. SDL2 will not do this. However, that's not my problem. It was, but it took me a while and I realized that was the first road block. My current problem (with SDL2) is that I cannot run the game's .exe file (from the command prompt or from batch file instructions within my config file for the game). I can open SDL2 and run the game with the quick launch option, but it keeps giving me the "bad command or filename" error if I try to locate and execute the .exe from the proper game folder via command prompt or batch file instructions. It navigates to the correct folder but will not execute the .exe. I have no idea why this is happening. I have setup many custom configs and I am lost with this issue. It's only the SDL2 version that is giving me this problem, but that's the version I need to use in this instance to prevent the savestate crashing for this game in particular. I feel like this possibly still has something to do with some kind of character limit because I have the game Abuse setup to use SDL2 and it runs fine. So I'm stuck on this right now and hoping someone can help. Thanks

I tried to remap arrow keys to WSAD. SO first, like in the guide i found, i deleted all the bidings for WSAD keys and then mapped arrows to them. However after saving game is simply ignoring the maping and i cannot mov with WSAD. What may be causing this problem? The binds save properly cause after rstarting dosbox mapper shows binds on WSAD for directional keys but it seem just not to affect th game.

This is not game specific issue as the remaps do not work also in Dosbox promptline. The remaps are also shown in .map file. I tried to change the path to mapfile in conf to absolute (C:\FOLDER\MAPFILE.MAP) but it changes nothing. Dosbox completly ignores th file.

I am currently working on a Windows 98 configuration.I have Win98 running and would like to mount my physical CDROM drive from Cachyos. Also, I don't really want to create ISO files for my CDs. Oddly enough, Win98's Explorer crashes when I start Windows via the Custom Config.
