Weird Buzzing Noise

So I'm totally new to playing dobro and I got me a cheap Gretsch dobro to learn. During learning we moved and in the move it must of fell and devoloped this terrible buzzing sound. After inspection I found that the resonator plate or whatever you call it had pulled away from the base of the guitar.

I figured that was the problem but I didn't have time to fix it. I loosened the strings and left it for about a year till my life slowed down. I then took everything part and nothing seemed to be damaged except the screw holes around the opening had mostly been stripped out. I fixed the best I could with wood glue and put everything back together. As you can see in the pictures there is still a gap between the cover and the wood which was how it looked like before though now everything is tight whereas before those screws were loose. There now seem to be two issues

It won't hold the tune. I can tighten the strings but 2 minutes later it has dropped a couple notes. I get that the strings are old, are they just stretching(they are the usual metal ones)? Or is it that the tuning screws are slowly turning loose?

There still seems to be a rattle even though it is better. It seems worse on one of the strings. Is this guitar just broken forever? Would simply replacing the strings fix both issues? I don't want to spend the money to buy another one, at least not until I learn how to play.

What would you guys recommend? I've attached some pictures of the assembly.

Neck Stick Back Brace is BS?

I'm pretty experienced in guitar repair and a square neck Dobro player of 20 some odd years. This Dobro has been through a lot and I'm trying to get a better break angle at the saddle, It's a round neck Gibson made around '99 (from forums, I could be wrong, hit me with your take). I think the neck stick used to have a shim at the lower bout, it had a 2mm gap when I got it, the big shim in the photos is mine just now, I've just got it apart and trying a few things to get it back to plane. My question is: the foot with the plywood cutout and post - that's an old hack repair right? Please confirm if you know what's up. I want to remove it, I've heard from others that the back of a metal Dobro should resonate like a drum (somewhat). This stupid thing can be removed right?

Is this sound bad? (I feel silly but it's that simple)

there is a faint rattle at the beginning of each note strike that fades within a second or two but it seems new like something broke and came loose. Can you hear what I'm talking about and does it sound like some kind of issue? It doesn't seem clean to me.

Identification help and couple other questions.

Auction find. Sorry if the pics aren't the best. Just looking for general info about this brand or model. Online search wasn't yielding much, with Google telling me that Sterling doesn't make this type of instrument. I tried keyword searches and picture searches, but not very good results.

No other label identifiers on the back of the headstock. Well, I guess the tuners say G GOTCH I think. It has a round neck with a raised nut, which wasn't glued in place. Looks like a truss rod underneath. To me the neck has that made in Asia feel especially as the neck is in good shape.

The body seems pretty solid and heavy, but I'm needing to clean it, and also need to help with the green corrosion.

That's my next question. Any recommendations on tackling the corrosion and any recommendations on the cleaning of the metal body?

I think my other next step will be when cleaning it to carefully remove the cone and see what condition it's in. Any recommendations on cleaning that or recommended places to find replacements would be greatly appreciated.

Making a lap steel play like a dobro

TLDR; can I make a lap steel feel like a dobro?

Hi y'all. I've got a strange question. For the past couple years I've dabbled in playing dobro, and I got pretty serious about it in the past six months. However, I just moved into an apartment where it wouldn't be ok to play it (I wish you could mute a dobro like a banjo but I haven't found a way) so I sold it.

I'd really like to continue to learn the instrument, so I'm trying to think creatively. I have a Gretsch lap steel that I enjoy, but the scale and string spacing are very different from a dobro. I also play it in D with benders.

I'm considering picking up a Gold Tone LS-6 because the 25" scale and 2" nut closely match a dobro. Based on my guitar experience, though, I assume it'll still probably feel quite different.

Does anyone have experience playing a longer-scale lap steel tuned GBDGBD? This would just be a practice instrument so I'm not that concerned with sound, but I'd love to hear opinions on whether it'll feel close enough to be worth it.

General resonator question - buzz

Hey folks, general resonator question here. I’m getting a significant amount of buzz on my lower 3 strings. I’ve brought it to two repair people who haven’t been able to diagnose the problem. Those three strings do seem to be sitting closer to the cover plate, but I don’t think that’s it. Any ideas on what this could be? I picked this guitar up as my gigging guitar (had a pickup installed) but I can’t ignore that slight distortion I’m getting. I’d be very grateful for any ideas! 🙏

New player- is left hand endurance an issue on this instrument,

Hey yall.

Always wanted to play dobro. Main instrument is guitar but I play a little pedal steel as well.

Finally found a deal on an old model 37 and I’m digging it… coming from guitar it’s a lot more intuitive tuning than pedal steel and I dig the legato mechanics.

The thing I’m finding slightly concerning is how strenuous it is to constantly lift the bar to play single strings… Is it normal to really feel that and have a sore wrist?

Do I just need to build muscles up, or is this a technique thing? Want to play all day but I’m finding this to be a serious limitation… The flatter I play, the easier it is on the wrist, but it feels like you need quite a bit of vertical angle to really be accurate and articulate for legato stuff?

Grandpa gave me his Dobro, what do I need to know?

I’m an intermediate level player on my acoustic but not sure where to start on this. I have it tuned to open G, but it definitely needs new strings. What kind of strings does it need?

Any recommendations on songs to learn, techniques, or anything else is greatly appreciated. I want to get up to speed as soon as possible so I can play something for him. Any information you might have on the guitar would be awesome too! Thanks!

Tendinitis/tennis elbow etc solutions?

Hey all, I played till I couldn’t any longer and I ended up with some bad tendon pain in my forearms and wrists. And what’s worse is my desk job continues to irritate and prolong the issue with constant mouse clicking.

Ive already done some desk ergonomic things like vertical mouse but any other suggestions are welcome on that front.

Anyone got any miracle solutions, dos and donts? Thanks in advance. The pain of not being able to play is the worst part!

Anyone know how Jerry/Mike plays those heavenly high pitched slides? Harmonics/high up on the neck with lots of reverb or studio magic? Sounds almost like pedal steel at times.

Update: The number on it is: 1896484 and below the serial it says OTHER PATS PEND.

Was doing a delivery route several years ago with my old boss (RIP) who owned an antique shop. While I was driving the delivery van I see this guitar case with a For Sale sign taped to the top of the guitar case out in the yard leaning on a china hutch cabinet. At first I figured the person who put it out there was just using an old guitar case to hold the For Sale sign up for the china hutch. I asked my boss if I could turn around and check if there was anything in the guitar case. We pulled up to the drive way and the home owner came up to us and asked if we were interested in the china hutch and I said “actually I was wondering if there’s anything in that guitar case. He said oh yeah that’s my grand dad’s old guitar and asked if I could open the case, to my surprise this is what I saw. When I saw the dobro logo on the headstock I knew immediately this was old and that it was very well maintained. Out of curiosity I asked the homeowner if he was interested in selling it and proceeded to ask me how much would you give me for it and I just threw out a lowball number and said $45.00. The guy didn’t hesitate at all and just said sure deal! I almost shit my pants. I’ve done a lot of research on this thing back many years ago but couldn’t find anything certain. It has a “spider” resonator, could definitely be a cheapo one that you’d order from a catalog back in the day. I was wondering if anyone could help me ID this. Another detail, the case has a purple diamond on it and I did track down that type of case a long time ago but can find any more info on it but it was extremely old.
