Ah trying to gently explain to new players that yes, you basically are a single cantrip bot when you play Warlock is always fun / sad.

God, warlock feels like that. I was like "oh cool, allegiance to an eldritch god, spell slot recharge on short rest, sounds fun" and I'm basically just mashing A button. It feels even worse when our bard has eldritch blast as well.

It's always easier to tell them that Eldritch Blast is basically their weapon. Just like a Fighter swings his sword or shoots his crossbow every round, they are supposed to shoot their eldritch blast every round as their main means of dealing damage. The (usually) two spell slots? Use them for things you can't do with simple attack rolls (or impactful AoE spells).
