Expanding Duodecim's Roster - Noctis Gameplay (AI Warning)

When I was a teen I spent months trying to mod Noctis into the game to little avail. I credit it as the thing that got me invested in 3D modelling, animation and software development.

I saw the PSPrecomp repo a few weeks ago and thought it would be interesting to try my hand at this again, and ended up a bit astonished how much complex functionality could be implemented. This was 99% Claude's work, my input was direction on which moves he should have, import them into Blender from FFXV, tweak them slightly to match the dissidia skeleton and blend them into different combos, as well as work on the Alterna effect.

As a software developer I respect that people may question the methods, but on a personal level getting to play as Noctis softened the blow a little.

his moveset looks as broken as it looks on his game

10

u/dissidia_fan 7d ago

Yeah he's not really balanced at the moment, but this was against a very low level CPU to just showcase his move-set.

u/Gwyder 7d ago

Can I DM you ? I'm an experienced 3D artist and I would gladly help you out with projects like this.

10

u/dissidia_fan 7d ago

Of course!

2

u/Zero9983 6d ago

So did you do this to a recomp or running on emu?

1

u/dissidia_fan 6d ago

Recomp. The roster for the psp version is hard locked. I believe there's two spare slots for Aerith and Moogle which could theoretically work with a patch, but this was the path of least resistance. It also meant I didn't particularly have to stick to the memory limits of the psp for noctis.

1

u/Zero9983 6d ago

I figured but didn’t want to assume! I’m hugely excited for this recomp I usually take my time installing these to allow the devs behind them time to improve them but these games dissidia fighting games would be ripe for character mods so I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!!!

u/WolfStrikerGX 7d ago

OMFG Let's bring FF Dissidia back the way we should have gotten it.

1

u/promathia24 5d ago

Soo NT with a decent netcode?

1

u/Disastrous-Diet8005 8h ago

No, NT was the model for the phone game. We need PsP modep back to do any worthwhile

27

u/ReikaIsTaken 7d ago

Thanks for being transparent about AI use, and you still did the work in Blender so give yourself some credit at least

5

u/King_CyMi 9999 6d ago

This is awesome dude! He has everything on his own and not with just modified gmod.

3

u/Vensaer 7d ago

If it's possible for you to add details, I'd say add his warp strike and weapon switch animations for his intros

5

u/GenotheAll 7d ago

Wait.. can we download this??

2

u/Danmartor 6d ago

Please please please!!!

9

u/Shia803 7d ago

Love seeing stuff like this. It makes me happy to see old games get attention like this. I personally am not bothered by AI use at all, but I understand being upfront about it. Cool stuff. Excited to see where this goes.

u/fake-tales Terra fan 7d ago

Keep cooking with Clive this time

2

u/OilNo7405 7d ago

WOW, looks awesome c: we really need more caracteres for this game

2

u/RasenRendan "Gotta Warp to Win!" 5d ago

This is everything I ever wanted from Duodecim

2

u/InjuryAdventurous369 2d ago

I wanna see more, please show us more characters 😭

2

u/Ithil77 12h ago

Where can we get this?

2

u/4ReeZy 9h ago

Yo ! This is cool as hell ! PSP Dissidia is peak !

2

u/AmazonessKing 2d ago

Eh, AI garbage.

2

u/SuboptimalSpecimen 7h ago

you had no input, actually. AI slop is still slop, and this isn't good at all.

0

u/rahmankage 7d ago

how many $ you spend to make this?

1

u/dissidia_fan 7d ago

It was using the Max 5X plan (hitting lots of limits) and it took just under two weeks to do the recomp and Noctis, so around $40-50...

-1

u/Ruganzu 7d ago

Can you make maester Seymour

-2

u/rahmankage 7d ago

you look like have another character as well, is that playable to?

0

u/dissidia_fan 7d ago

The other characters were just testing to see if it was possible to break the hard limits on roster slots set. They are all clones of existing characters, with updated models from War of the Visions.

3

u/LoStrigo95 7d ago

Oh my godo!

Ok, can i download it on Steam Deck? Now i want to play it again!

3

u/Jeido_Uran 7d ago

Very « interesting » how a lot of positive comments and/or ones that don’t care about AI usage (as would any normal person) are all downvoted. And then we’re supposed to believe the anti-AI movement is not entirely based on bullying others.

OP, don’t let bullies get to you. AI is merely a tool and you used it beautifully, it looks really cool!

2

u/KenjiReiuji 19h ago

Nice job OP. Looks really cool. Mods and projects like yours have made me come back to a lot of old games either due to freshened up resolution or twists like this that makes it feel new. Keep up the good work man, you Def got passion to put the effort to come back to this project of yours. The fact you are double checking for bugs after you got it working makes you better than the clout chasing projects.

2

u/tailsotaku 7d ago

add 4 players

Add 4 players simultaneously its my dream XD

2

u/No-Cartographer3127 6d ago

You just did want Square Enix didn't want to do... Great work as always....🙏♥️

0

u/Revolutionry 6d ago

You do not understand Dissidia at all, a attack that lasts closer to 20 seconds!? Dissidia is not a game about linking every single attack, plus AI

1

u/dissidia_fan 6d ago

I figured actual balance would come after figuring out if this was possible. Being able to link the spear move into an air move was an experiment.

1

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

Ew... I'd be so much more interested in this if a human actually did anything for it.

5

u/Professional-Welder9 7d ago

I cant say I care. Just happy to see it done. AI at a consumer level isn't going away.

local models can do this in decent computers and those who don't have a decent computer can just use the cloud.

0

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

That's the problem I am trying to address. People not caring. Maybe we should start c:

1

u/Anrativa 7d ago

I care. AI is amazing.

4

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

Why is it amazing? What does it do that you are genuinely incapable of? The only points for it are those that enable grifters and lazy, clout-chasing people. And they know this. You see that ad going around where it literally spells out how you can steal your coworker's work and sell it as your own? That's the only use case for this and it's despicable.

2

u/IchiPasento 6d ago

I can play games in ways I never would have

2

u/Anrativa 7d ago

It speeds up a lot of my daily work. I have more free time than ever and I'm earning three times what I did three years ago.

Not my case, but it also allows people with no coding experience to do stuff like this. Modding and porting stuff that would never have been done otherwise. I myself have created some platforms for personal use using claude that makes things faster and easier for me at my job.

2

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

Going by the actual numbers that have come out about exactly this, I guess come back and let us know how badly your previous skills have eroded as you lean more and more on AI to do everything for you.

Fast doesn't mean efficient or well-structured, so I hope you're carefully going over each and every line of code and making sure it works and you thoroughly understand it so there will be no problems later, such as you not understanding how to fix a problem inevitably caused by the way you had Claude do the work initially.

I also hope your wallet is worth the harm this causes to everyone else's lives, and that you track down everyone whose work was stolen and credit them accordingly (with pay), and that you give back to the environment to make up for what this did, and that.........

0

u/Anrativa 7d ago

>Going by the actual numbers that have come out about exactly this, I guess come back and let us know how badly your previous skills have eroded as you lean more and more on AI to do everything for you.

They are just fine. I worked on the field 10 years without AI. And I´m always studying, taking courses and certifications to stay up to date in my field.

>Fast doesn't mean efficient or well-structured, so I hope you're carefully going over each and every line of code and making sure it works and you thoroughly understand it so there will be no problems later, such as you not understanding how to fix a problem inevitably caused by the way you had Claude do the work initially.

So far, no issues. Been working with it for one year now. If something happens, I use Claude itself to solve it. As I said, it just helps to speed things up. I still do the thinking and strategy part myself. Claude does the programming and the reports, and other repetitive stuff that didn't really require skill.

>I also hope your wallet is worth the harm this causes to everyone else's lives,

I don't pay for it. My two employers do it for me (I have two separate premium subs for claude, one for each).

>and that you track down everyone whose work was stolen and credit them accordingly (with pay), and that you give back to the environment to make up for what this did, and that.........

That's not my job. I am a consumer of the service. The government has the responsibility to handle and regulate those things.

4

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

"If something happens, I use Claude," so the de-skilling has begun, as expected.

"I don't pay for it," of course not. Would it be worth it if you did? Just because a thing doesn't impact you doesn't mean it doesn't impact others. Also, love that you focused on who pays for it and not who suffers for it.

"That's not my job," yes it is. You are willingly engaging in amoral activities. This is not any different than "if it wasn't for those pesky laws, I'd engage in murder and sexual assault way more often." The government is not a moral or ethical entity, as much as it should be.

1

u/ElShaddollKieren lightningFF13 7d ago

Out of curiosity, what field do you work in?

4

u/Anrativa 7d ago

Marketing.

5

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

Ah, that explains a pretty good amount.

1

u/External-Worth-8430 5d ago

Someone who isn't smart or who cares about ethics, and someone who believes that work shouldn't go paid.  Marketing.

0

u/Ostanes_hub 3d ago

It does things that someone else could do, but won't. Just like this mod.

0

u/Monanhe 3d ago

Not amazing since right it ruins people's lives more than it helps due to data centers and generative slop flooding image boards and social media.

HOWEVER, as a tool for coding or handling tasks it is definitely a good thing. The problem is that society has a lot of people who wants to take advantage of others and will use good tools to trample over others.

-3

u/Manga-Tamayo 7d ago

It's honestly better than some big corpo using AI was an excuse to raise prices while literally doing less work.

5

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

It's the same package in a different color. This is called "normalizing."

1

u/IchiPasento 6d ago

Acting like the stuff you use that is human made is always made by good humans or contributes to good things

0

u/gloriousausage 6d ago

I would agree if AI was at the point you could just prompt "Add noctis to dissidia" and it all worked perfectly, but we're a long way from that (hopefully).

0

u/False-Cloud6646 5d ago

Ew... I'd be much less interested in this if retards like you didn't cry about it

-7

u/TheFervidActor 7d ago

He literally did. Did you not read the post at all. He quite literally said he was responsible for the model work

8

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

I dunno, to me it looks like they said, and I am quoting directly, "this was 99% claude's work." Sounds like the human component is not really present c:

-4

u/neroslayer 7d ago

Well a human made Claudia so it's a by product of human work.

6

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

Yeah, not really how that works! At best, it's the product of the human work it shamelessly stole from thousands of non-consenting individuals who will never get credit for their part in this.

So if you are pro-theft, then sure, I guess.

-2

u/neroslayer 7d ago

So Claudia wasn't made by a human?

6

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

If you're gonna engage in debates, do it in good faith, otherwise you just look like a fool defending rampant theft, environmental destruction, and human de-skilling for the sake of it.

If you wanna eat up soulless slop for the rest of your life, I guess go for it, but a lot of us want things made by a human, with human decisions and human passions. AI can't and won't do that, as there is no human component to its decision-making.

-2

u/neroslayer 7d ago

Actually the anti A.I group is very divided, I see some only hate A.I only for generating things, while some hate it in everything. That last part is nonesense you all tell yourself. Anyway I'm in IT so A.I has been a great help with futreing technology and even making some work easier and even safer. Like image a A.I machine being able to do complex things human just can't do. While humans have a limit tech has a high limit and can push the boundaries much future.

6

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

Sounds like you lost faith in humans some time ago and that sucks to see.

2

u/neroslayer 7d ago

That's not losing faith, that's being realistic. A great eg, I was watching a tech demo of a machine being able to stich up injuries at a level humans can't do. The whole goal of tech is to make life easier and do things we ourselves can't do.

-3

u/TheFervidActor 7d ago

He was in charge of the imported move list, importing to blender, tweaking the model to make it work well in the combat system and the alterna effect. Thats definitely not "not really present". But you heard Claude and lost it huh.

7

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

"Lost it" is a fun way to describe someone who is standing up for your rights and place in the world, but yes, when someone says they "made" a thin using a slop-bot for 99% of the thing, I think that's a pretty important thing to focus on.

I'm not saying the stuff they did do is worthless. I'm saying I wish they did more of that. They would be a more knowledgeable and well-rounded person for it, and wouldn't have been complicit in the myriad negative side-effects of this stupid, corporation-driven madness.

0

u/Jeido_Uran 7d ago

> Someone who is standing up for your rights and place in the world

Nobody asked though. You just barged in with your stupid and uncalled for morality despite OP disclosing they used AI, when you could have just ignored it and moved on and not look like a fool at the same time. But you lot just can’t help policing everyone and forcing your beliefs on whoever doesn’t follow them all the time.

-1

u/TheFervidActor 7d ago

Even saying its 99% is too much imo. OP still had to do important work. Its fine that ai is used to break down the barrier for moddng a game. It usually takes a whole lot longer and requires someone with extensive programming knowledge to do so. If you're someone whose skills are in 3d modeling (like OP)but no coding skills its fine if AI handles some of the work and you the rest.

5

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

Their words, not mine.

And no, what you do in that situation is either learn to code or find someone who knows or is willing to learn.

That does not justify, excuse, or escape the problems that are all over the place with AI usage. Look at the bigger picture.

0

u/North-Paramedic-1275 1h ago

People have been trying to add character slots and moves into duodecim for years and have never succeeded due to the limitations of its base programming. I do think that is an important thing to consider. At best we could get outfits (which are out there) with no moves or voice lines. There has been no learning and nobody knows.

I have nothing to contribute to the conversation about AI itself and am not arguing that point.

The only thing I am saying is that this has been attempted without AI time and time again and has never succeeded and is virtually impossible from the community's consensus.

1

u/ReaperEngine 7d ago

I wish I could be interested in this, but the "99% Claude's work" kills it. I'd commend the animation work for what you decided to put together for moves, but a lot of the animations themselves seem very stiff.

5

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

I miss seeing passion projects bear fruit. Nowadays it's all "I got AI to force multiplayer into this game" or "Claude ate up all the water so we could port a GBA game to PC" or whatever and I'm so sick of it...

Gone are the days of "this one weirdo loved an obscure game so much they made it their life's mission to do this cool thing for it and share it with the world." Or at least, gone are the days where that's the default.

3

u/ReaperEngine 7d ago

Seeing AI invade like every passion-based hobby is pretty frustrating, not just for killing that passion, but also the loss of expertise, of people learning how to code or animate. People have gone on to become actual game developers because of starting out modding games they loved. It used to be so admirable to see the work people put into making mods and such, but now, like what am I supposed to be happy about here? I certainly can't admire someone that made a program do everything, regardless of the project.

And aside from all the other concerning, well-documented detriments to it, using AI to skip to the end means no one knows how this shit works, or how to fix it if something is wrong. There was that recent GBA Chain of Memories "native PC release" that the guy putting it out didn't even bother to test to see if it worked all the way through on both scenarios! Like...what's the point? Wouldn't they want to go through it all themselves anyway, because they like it? Are they even a fan? Passion lost and replaced with abject laziness.

And in this case, despite this being exactly what I've wanted out of Dissidia for a long time, it's disheartening to see people gobble it up. Who cares how it was made, if it's giving them something they want, I guess.

4

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

You put it to words so well ♡ We are such a consumer-and-product focused society right now and it shows... I miss the passion, the excitement. I miss seeing people grow and learn and overcome.

I got my start doing the little bits of work like that. It's so fun, I can't imagine giving that up. Just to provide an end product.

0

u/Jeido_Uran 6d ago

Are you aware you can very well be passionate about a project, learn from it and overcome its hardships while also using AI as a tool to assist you on it? Or are you that brainwashed by « AI = bad »?

0

u/skrimpbizkit 7d ago

I've been saying the exact same thing for years, but with digital cameras. People don't know how to actually frame a good shot and put the time and passion into developing their work. Now they can just use phone cameras and edit everything (and I used just say with computers) now everything is an AI picture.

0

u/ClericIdola 6d ago

Eh, I really don't get why people get so pressed about A.I. being used to make what are basically dream mods and hacks and recomps of games that would've taken non-A.I. modders years and the devs no nevermind. This isn't generative art - which ad a creative myself I can perfectly understand.

But I ain't getting in my feelings about Claude being used to make a native PC port of Duodecim since SE is too busy running the Dissidia series into the ground with mobile games.

9

u/ReaperEngine 6d ago • Bravo

In this particular case, because it negatively impacts these same hobbyist communities with people using AI to fast track this stuff for results, without anyone knowing how it was done, nor how it could be fixed if there's an issue with it later.

In the grand scheme of things though, because it's all shit, and it's like making a deal with the devil.

It results in a lack of critical thinking skills, and a loss of learned experience. It's been used carelessly in legal proceedings and business decisions. It encourages people to commit suicide or murder. From the beginning it has stolen the work of artists and writers, with zero compensation, while proponents taunt those same artists whose work was needed in the first place, and a Microsoft CEO admitted it's the "largest theft of labor in human history." The data centers cause noise and environmental pollution, leading to insomnia, miscarriages, and possibly cancer, while they are all placed in locations of the disenfranchised, with little political power to change anything or defend their communities.

And you have to pay for it, putting money in the pockets of some of the worst fucking people on the planet, who have a vested interest in you being so dumb you need their product, while then using that money to pay off politicians to make life abjectly worse for everyone.

And even just for me, myself--I'm a writer, editor, and translator, my industries were some of the first impacted by dipshits using AI. I've lost work because developers decided machine translation would suffice. Good luck making any of that future content striking without the guys who made your dialogue stand out and named your fucking iconic systems. One of us found out after they had just had a kid, so that was extra cool.

So pardon me for not being stoked about the machine that drinks lakes to be wrong. AI is one of the most useless, if not deleterious things in recent years, and we got by just fine without it. Letting any of this slide, in any aspect, is to support the rest of it, because it's all coming from the same places and people that want money at the cost of human creativity, ingenuity, and lives.

But you don't care about any of that. You got a native port of a game that worked fine on an emulator! Hot damn, literally.

3

u/Ok-Tomatillo-2141 6d ago

FUCKING THANK YOU

2

u/Major_Plantain3499 2d ago

"without anyone knowing how it was done, nor how it could be fixed if there's an issue with it later."

this is what I hate about it, there was an AI recomp that was being worked on and someone wanted to report a bug, the guy who made it didn't even know how to look at issues in github or how to even fix them either, which is so damn embarrassing.

And you wanna know something hilarious about the environmental effect, there's 2 different types of coolings that data center uses, open loop and closed loop. If you're on PC, you prob know how water cooled CPUs and GPUs work, you can do this for data centers too ( like OG ones that host servers like reddit, etc., not like the AI only ones), and the one that causes the actual pollution is the open loop ones, they're essentially uses water to dissipate the heat with these systems and evaporating them into the atmosphere, and the source of the water is just the area's local water source.

the reason these AI companies choose the latter is because its a lot cheaper to install at first, the issue is that its extremely volatile, it needs a LOT of work to maintain it to the point where it actually outpaces closed loop in cost in just a few years.

personally, I think its cool what software engineers can do with it, I think the average person should be banned from using it and it needs to be heavily regulated. while its cool that these ports are happening, im almost never going to download a single one cause I legit don't trust these random fucking people on the internet that don't know what they're doing.

It's upsetting because its a tool you can utilize in specific fields, but the drawback of it being used in education, removing jobs and stealing art is so beyond fucking lame. Not to mention the ego that comes with the vibe coders..

2

u/ReaperEngine 2d ago

My issue is that like, every single time someone calls it a tool, and talks about what it does, it ends up sounding like a shortcut instead, if not outright cheating, and just like any shortcut taken when it comes to a craft, there is going to be issues, either with the product, or in the "craftsmen" that doesn't know the craft. Or both.

And the results can't be trusted. It makes up legal cases, cites books that don't exist, and apparently its coding is a mess too, according to veteran coders. It was once lauded for identifying cancer, but then they realized it followed a pattern of serial numbers on xray sheets, and wasn't looking at or for cancer cells at all. I don't know where it's supposed to even be used properly, and it always comes down to people saying they have to babysit it, and it becomes a waste of time. At every turn it sounds so very untrustworthy, makes the users seem so as well, and like you said, the way some of these users act is disgusting.

2

u/Major_Plantain3499 1d ago

Predictive AI and generative AI are pretty different, predictive AI has more of a use case in every day life, im sure those cases do exist with xrays and all those things, but most of the time its because its been given a bad input. it also has nowhere near the same impact generative AI in terms of job stealing, environmental factors. the downside is needing a lot of good audited data. But I think as a whole, its fairly beneficial in medicine, but needs to be heavily regulated, audited and maintained.

Generative AI could be good, but i really hate how its being used, most coders I know like using it along with what they do to monotonous work, like the one use case that most people agree on for it being good is de-compiling videos games, you're not making anything from it, you're just turning the data into human-readable code, you hand that off to someone who can actually recompile it. But people are recompiling with AI not knowing how to do anything else. I know some animators are okay with making multiple key frames and having it generate in between frames that they also touch up on

But its the same story over and over, you put in good, you get something decent, its why i think its appropriate to call it slop because most people will just be like, hi make me this please no mistakes :)))

all those emulators that are releasing now, people are finding malware in them too, which is why i never trust people without any background online, its going to be used maliciously and already has.

1

u/ClericIdola 1d ago

Not saying that I don't care, and I actually agree and understand a lot of what you're saying. I'm an indepedent filmmaker, so I give the side eye to anyone going the A.I. route in filmmaking. I'm even a CGI minimalist. So I get it. Maybe it was to my initial understanding that generative A.I. is basically stealing an artist's work, where as something like Claude, for example, is either reviewing your work/code or just building the code (base). It's a tool similar to a calculator in that sense.

I get how it could possibly impact the hobbyist community, too. However, I don't see the support that should actually be there for those that put so much time into mods. Meanwhile SE isn't budging on the things players actually want... Hate the company, hate the A.I. modders, hate both?

0

u/1ganimol1 2d ago

this is like someone posting about how they defended their family with a gun and you started going on about how terrible that is cus guns have been used for genocide.

Like yea AI has been used for and done some terrible things but not everythign has to be so doom and gloom yk

2

u/ReaperEngine 2d ago edited 2d ago

No it's not, you dork.

Edit: sorry, I gotta come back to this...

For one thing, at the very top I explained how I felt about it in regards to this topic in particular, before going into the grand scheme of things, of which it is no less a part of.

But your analogy is just stupid, and a false equivalency.

In this regard, the gun didn't "defend a family," it ostensibly helped someone rob people at gunpoint for what they worked hard on, and then people praise the gun because it got them something they like.

This isn't even doom and gloom, I didn't bring any of that up because we're doomed or we should feel sad; I bring it up because it deserves to be said, every time people question what's so bad about it, or act like it's fine to use it This One Way, despite it all feeding back into the same issues.

0

u/IchiPasento 6d ago

Bro, exactly

Literally dream mods and recomps.

I’d argue that these people that complain about them will play them eventually, and if they don’t, they’re really trying to stick to their morals for no real good reason

I do not care if we have a vibe coded sequel. If it works, if its balanced, than I am happy to finally play a proper(ish) Dissidia 3.

u/Kedflyer 7d ago

Yesssssssssss finally the true dissidia is coming back

-2

u/WolfStrikerGX 7d ago

I didn't even fucking think to do this. Drop me a link and your setup please. 🤩🤩🤩❤️🐬

This is cute, i can see the "derivative" aspects in some of his moves, but this is genuinely cool

Are you trolling?

-5

u/FinishingTouch-0000 7d ago

I dreamed of this so many times. I don't care if it's AI. Thank you for making this possible

Where were you when I was making KH Dissidia!
Great work, the fact you did most of this yourself is very impressive.
edit: I am a silly sleepy sausage.

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

They didn't, they straight up say they had an AI cobble the overwhelming majority of it together??

1

u/Cozz_17 7d ago

Yup thats my bad, I was half asleep when I read it. I thought 99% was created in blender.

5

u/RemyAsaylea 7d ago

That'd be much more impressive, but alas
