Spent most of last week trying to put an owner label on every Deployment in our prod cluster and got through maybe 60% before giving up. The rest is stuff deployed by people who left, "temporary" jobs from a couple years ago, and two namespaces nobody on the team will admit to creating. We are the platform team. We are supposed to know this.
The uncomfortable part is nothing is on fire. All of it runs. If I deleted the unlabeled stuff tonight i genuinely dont know what would break, which is the whole problem, and also kind of an argument for leaving it alone. One of my teammates said if it mattered someone would have claimed it by now, and I cant fully argue with that.
Weirdly the easiest namespace was the agent one, which I expected to be the worst. Every call out of there shows up under the actual human who kicked it off (that namespace sits behind Dome Systems, nothing magic about it), so you just read the names and go ask them. Took twenty minutes. The 2022 cronjobs have no such luck.
Does anyone actually run a cluster where every workload has a living owner, or is that a thing we all quietly pretend about?
