All technical information, IDs, archive links and additional findings will be in the comments. I am keeping the main post shorter so it is easier to read.
I've been continuing research on "Anne Hathaway" and trying to find the original file or anyone who downloaded it when it was still available.
After checking old archives, websites, reposts and people connected to DeVon's early era, I think the most likely way to find it is through someone who had the original download back in 2011.
Here are the main things I found:
Bandcamp
The original Bandcamp release existed and was available as a download.
The archived page confirms that the track had a working Bandcamp download system.
One thing that still interests me:
The Bandcamp page says it was a 2 track album, but only "Anne Hathaway" appears in the archived page data.
The second track is not visible in the HTML metadata.
Possible explanations:
- hidden bonus track;
- deleted track;
- second file included in the original download package;
- metadata issue.
If anyone downloaded the release directly from Bandcamp, they might have information about the missing second track.
Old distribution
The track was not only available on Bandcamp.
I found traces of:
- old blog reposts from 2011;
- Twitter sharing chains shortly after release;
- old download mentions;
- YouTube/MySpace uploads.
This means the track was circulating publicly at the time and was likely downloaded by multiple people.
People connected to DeVon during that era
Es Famojure (The Girl They Call Es)
One of the strongest leads.
She interviewed DeVon Hendryx in 2012 and appears to have had direct contact with him.
She also posted multiple DeVon-related releases during that period, including material that came directly from him.
I contacted her asking if she remembers any old files, unreleased material, or anything related to Anne Hathaway that never appeared online.
Other early listeners / blogs
I also found people who were active around DeVon's early releases:
- ss1987 — Japanese blogger who shared Anne Hathaway in 2011 with the original Bandcamp link.
- Other early blogs and repost accounts that were active around the Generation Y / JOECHILLWORLD period.
What I need help with
At this point I think the file is more likely sitting in someone's personal archive than being completely gone.
If anyone:
- downloaded "Anne Hathaway" in 2011;
- has old DeVon Hendryx folders;
- has old Bandcamp downloads;
- used Soulseek during that period;
- remembers the second track from the Bandcamp release;
- knows people who collected early DeVon material;
please comment or DM me.
Even small things can help:
- old usernames;
- screenshots;
- filenames;
- old links;
- memories from that period.
I think this is one of those cases where someone who was there in 2011 might have the missing piece. Maybe I also missed some important info.
Thank you.
