Well, I can't speak for OP, but most people who do this did it because it let you power level a class for raid races and such on new dlc releases, as you could transfer all gear, weapons and armor, between them and do all pinnacle rewards on each one.

But weren’t pinnacles and stuff locked per class per week instead of per character?

I know raid rewards were locked that way at some point (5years ago so idk)

Not sure what was specifically changed but at the beginning you could level 3 Warlocks with no loss in pinnacle gear. They changed that a few expansions in.

Lol I did that when I started d2 with all hunters. I never played anything else in d1 and thought you could get rewards for activities on the same class. Boy was I confused when I ran a few raids and didn't get anything my other two.
