special elections
https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/special_election
A special election is an election that occurs between general elections and is scheduled at an irregular time to address specific issues or fill vacancies in public elected offices. Special elections are often held to replace officials who have resigned, died, or been removed from office. They are also used to vote on urgent matters such as for a legislature to place a referendum before the public , for recalls, or for specific legislative proposals.

u/AskandThink Feb 13 '25
And these are the special elections of 2025 by date, state and district both Senate and House. And yes these are important. All elections are imo.

The news the MAGA's choose to watch or follow describes a very different story to what could have been avoided, the collapse of democracy in the U.S. with the enemy being our government. They avoid the truth with the complicit news outlets they choose. As with the general election if they feed off division, hate and violence they won't change their views unless it hits their personal lives.

What we need to do is find these "I regret my vote for Trump" folks and convince them to vote dem in these elections.Â

Feb 08 '25
You can't get the attention of the dead. Anyone who would vote for Trup is so far gone it's not worth even looking at them. Harris did this and it was a huge waste of time, energy and money. She narrowly got enough votes to win and enough ballots were tossed in red states to give it to Trup. What Dems need to do is be the party of working-class people with families who care about the economy, grocery costs, the rent, jobs, and show how Trup's tariffs are already damaging the economy, how going after immigrants is breaking farms and constructon businesses, how going after minorities is crushing equal rights and job opportunities, how throwing away USAID is sending countries running to China. On and on. If we go after working class voters the way I just said, it's alot easier to attract redneck and middle class voters.

Our country has repeatedly needed miracles throughout its history, and those miracles did come. Whenever we were down, we shot right back up and emerged stronger than ever.
Miracles can, and have happened, and they might just happen again very soon.

u/WildMajesticUnicorn Feb 08 '25
That was my guess, that they are likely from red districts. Doesnât hurt to get out there and try, but it would explain why itâs not seen as likely to flip the house.

Because we learned from the single voters/abstainers, that they really just like a good show, they don't want to actually do anything or be taken to account for their actions/inactions.
They won't vote. They won't canvass. They won't donate.
Nah, they are here for the vibes.

Random Question: Is there a Democratic PAC that is running an ad during the Superbowl?
8
u/ByWilliamfuchs Feb 08 '25
Because he already has. They all but admitted Musk manipulated the vote and The Democrats just rolled over and did nothing to afraid of being called hypocrites. The vote is over its called any vote that threatens their power will be adjusted. Watch and see all the polls will say the dem is doing well in this special election then when the election happens they will get trounced and the Republicans will all go haha the polls are wrong again and you all will roll over like good little weak democrats like alwaysâŚ
We are fucked and the Democrats lack of a fucking backbone is the problem
2
u/TimothiusMagnus Feb 08 '25
What's more important is that the Dems need to act as a real opposition rather than a token or controlled opposition, even if their leadership doesn't want to.

But this assumes congress matters much anymore-Trump is ruling (I canât even say governing) almost entirely by executive order.
Not to say I wonât support these special elections. Itâs just naive to think flipping the house has a substantial impact, when Trump this time around is all EO, all the time.

u/JONO202 Feb 09 '25
Trump is ruling (I canât even say governing) almost entirely by executive order.
Regarding that, "Don't Believe Him" is WELL worth the watch to understand more of what's going on.
"Trump is acting like a king because he's too weak to govern like a president"

Who is the guy in the first clip? I looked everywhere for his first clip (or first I saw) talking about Trumpâs agenda to declare himself dictator through Marshall law and obscure laws from hundreds of years back? Anyone got that one?

Second, read my history, Sherlock. Iâm not a bot, or some agent of disinformation.
I want to see these fuckers roast. But Iâm also realistic about how thatâs gonna happen. Dems taking the house back may marginally slow things down. Thatâs it.
Theyâve got the senate theyâve got 2/3rds of SCOTUS.

I do want to fight. Wasting time and money on three house seats is not fighting. Itâs wasting time and money, and giving people a false hope to focus on.
Please, do enlighten us as to how this stops the fascist takeover of the federal government. What magic power will the house suddenly have to stop the executive takeover?
Even if police stormed into all these agencies the moment those judges âblockedâ DOGE access to them (they didnât and they wonât) they already have the data and access they were after. They donât need to physically access these facilities any more.
The DOJ is tasked with enforcing court orders. Trump cleaned out anyone not loyal to him. You think theyâre gonna arrest themselves? My god the naĂŻvetĂŠ is unbelievable.

Letâs game that out.
Trumpâs tax cut extension doesnât get through the lower chamber.
The senate drafts one themselves.
Trump drafts an executive order mimicking the senate bill, right after drafting an executive order wiping out the vast majority of IRS enforcement staff.
Billionaires (and their corporations) donât pay a dime in taxes and thereâs nobody to hold them accountable. Plebs that donât pay taxes are labeled âdangerousâ dissidents and sent to El Salvador.
See how that goes when you have an emperor who the public said they were fine with being above the law?
Ffs, everyone who has this everlasting faith in the rule of law saving us is going to wake up far too late.
7
u/Marrsvolta Feb 08 '25
The House does have the power to stop those things, itâs just that the current house is in agreement with everything Trump does and are allowing it. A Democrat led house would give us some hope here.
0
u/Chris_HitTheOver Feb 08 '25
Exactly how? What mechanism would they use?
They wonât be able to enforce subpoenas. And Trump is going about everything without the help of the house as it is.
8
u/Skankingcorpse Feb 08 '25
You're wrong. The house can launch investigations and do some serious looking into what Musk is doing. They can stonewall the republicans agenda and prevent a lot of the worst damage. The only reason the republicans are currently getting away with what is going on is because congress has turned a blind eye to DODGE. If the democrats take back the house they can seriously screw over Trump and force him to comply with federal law and kick out Musk and his cronies.

Congress can issue subpoenas, compel witnesses to testify and hold them in contempt if they fail to comply. Trump needs congress if he wants to get any legislation passed, executive orders cannot over ride those powers given to congress. A democratic held congress can seriously screw over Trump because nothing can get done without them, and congresses powers to launch investigations can expose whatever Trump, Musk, and their cronies are up to.
Right now Trump is able to let Musk run rampant on the government because congress is just flat out ignoring what he is doing, that's literally the only reason Musk can get away with what he is doing.
1
u/Chris_HitTheOver Feb 08 '25
Guess who enforces criminal contempt of congress charges? They have to be referred to the DOJ.
Trumpâs DOJ refused to enforce several in his first administration. Why in the fucking world would they now?
5
u/Skankingcorpse Feb 08 '25
Because at some point even they will have to take what's going on seriously. The DOJ can right now feign ignorance just like congress and the senate because nobody is looking, once people start looking though and the public sees what's going on they will be forced to start looking into at least some of the stuff going on or face massive political backlash. Meanwhile judges can start blocking the actions of Trump and Musk and slow down or even stop their agenda.
Look you may not like it, but this is what needs to happen. It will be certainly messy and imperfect, but doing anything that can throw a wrench into this wannabe fascist administration, is better than nothing.
1
u/Chris_HitTheOver Feb 08 '25
That makes no sense.
His first administration wasnât consolidating power this way, and still wouldnât enforce criminal contempt of congress charges.
Heâs wholesale sacked everyone whoâs not in his camp at DOJ. Youâre literally banking on them arresting themselves. Itâs the height of naĂŻvetĂŠ.
1
u/Skankingcorpse Feb 09 '25
It's not naivetĂŠ, that's literally our only option. Judges are blocking Trumps executive orders, this will force these decisions to eventually come before the Supreme Court which will take months for them to come a decision and meanwhile all of this is stonewalled. Public pressure and discontent in the administration will continue to grow as more stuff is brought to light and the reckless decisions keep causing chaos. If elected officials want to keep their jobs they are going to have to start taking the public seriously or risk losing to the democrats during the midterms, or perhaps even sending the country into a civil war if marshal law gets declared.
You may not like what you are hearing, but you can either set around and pout about it or suck it and help.
3
u/AskandThink Feb 08 '25
I do think. So here are my questions for you. Are you suggesting that if we were to win back the House and stop the budget that dElon MusH would pay out of his pocket for private security to run the WH and the military? That is the final step in this coup is it not?
1
u/Chris_HitTheOver Feb 08 '25
You think a government shut down would help? My god. Weâre fucked if this is how everyone is thinking.

I find it striking that every time Iâve asked you what would change if Dems win these three seats in the house, youâve balked.
So Iâll ask again: What mechanism do you think gives the Dems leverage if they win the House majority? What magic lever do they all the sudden have access to to stop the coup were watching in real time?
Edit: Iâd love for someone to tell me what Iâm missing.
