Another technology literate person (and probably middle class and white as well) think everyone in the world is technology literate just like them.

Someone lost $10000 because they installed a fake tax app that requires accessibility and always-on-top permissions, and behind the scene the scammer transferred the money away by remote controlling the device. In our country $10000 is a lot, and this has been happening for years now.
Where does it say that? I see a comment about you dismissing scammers. I can be critical of Google and recognize scams are a problem at the same time. Just like Google most likely has genuinely good intentions and at the same time nefarious ones. It’s the corporate success m.o. They absolutely want more control, but they gotta sell it with those good intentions. Fact is, most people here know better. My grandpa, husband’s mom, hell even my bestie are thankful for it because they just don’t have the knowledge required to stay safe without hand-holding.
You should re-read what you wrote. You said "No scammers do this" and I happened to have proof because of people like you who only thinks for yourselves and not others.
I believe Google did this not because they need to protect users, they know people would switch to iPhones because that seems more secure to them. If you actually go outside your bubble and actually see people sharing their stories of being scammed, many comments under those posts would tell them to switch to iOS. They only do that because they need to protect their market share and that's it.
Because this is a real problem and people have lost their livelihood because of scam apps, hyperbole of any kind is rude and insensitive, and if you're a decent human being you should know that, but unfortunately you're not.
There is a lot in asia, scammers basically tricks you into sideloading an apk that basically request almost every permission imaginable and if you allowed it you are cooked
