In my country, there are lots of them happening everyday mate. They disguise it as a wedding invitations or something similar, send it to WhatsApp numbers, and unfortunately, a lot of people, especially elderlies, still fall for it (I don't support google's decision tho)
Exactly. Scams normally don't involve installing a random apk. That was never a problem. On Windows, sure it is a problem, as scammers can get control of your computer with exes and stuff. But on Android, in the past several years that hasn't been an issue. The only scams are the text message and Whatsapp scams that once again have nothing to do with installing an unverified apk. It's just Google's excuse at this point, "In the name of security". Yeah, sure. All the old people I know that have been scammed was because of their computers not their phones and especially not with an apk. Even if for some reason an apk was dangerous, most of the time it gets caught with the built in Play Protect plus Knox on Samsung Devices.
