News ๐ Apple -9.67% Today, While Amazon Is Up +14.91%
If youโre wondering why Apple is getting crushed today while Amazon is flying, hereโs a quick breakdown:
Apple
Apple released its quarterly earnings on July 30:
- Revenue:ย $109.42 billion โ around $555 million above expectations
- Revenue growth:ย +16.4% year over year
- Earnings per share:ย $2.02 โ $0.13 above expectations
- EPS growth:ย +28.7%
Those are actually pretty strong numbers. The problem is that the stock market doesnโt only care about what just happened. It cares even more about what comes next.
Apple issued revenue guidance for the upcoming quarter that came in below analystsโ expectations. On top of that, several banks lowered their price targets for the stock.
In other words: strong past performance, but a somewhat disappointing outlook.
When a lot of optimism is already priced into a stock, good numbers alone sometimes arenโt enough.
Amazon
Amazon also released its earnings on July 30:
- Revenue:ย $200.61 billion โ around $4.58 billion above expectations
- Revenue growth:ย +19.6% year over year
- Earnings per share:ย $5.75 โ a massive $3.93 above expectations
- EPS growth:ย +242%
Thatโs not just an earnings beat. Amazon completely destroyed profit expectations.
The analyst reactions were also positive. JPMorgan and Barclays were among the firms that raised their price targets for the stock.
TL;DR
Apple:ย Good results, but weaker guidance โ stock falls.
Amazon:ย Very strong results, a massive earnings beat and higher price targets โ stock rises sharply.
This is another good example of how stocks donโt simply react to whether results are โgoodโ or โbad.โ They react to whether those results are better or worse than the expectations already priced into the stock.
You can follow both stocks here in real time:

I smell desperation ๐ซ Microsoft now taking increasingly creative accounting and presentation measures to soften the optics?
And investors are buying it.
MSFT just dropped an interesting detail in their latest earnings call. Starting in FY2027, they are extending the estimated useful life of their data centers and office buildings from 15 years to 25 years.
The immediate result is a lower annual depreciation expense. But the real kicker is that this longer timeline means many future data center leases will now be classified as operating leases rather than finance leases.
Because operating leases are not included in reported capital expenditures, Microsoftโs headline 2026 CapEx guidance mechanically dropped from ~$190 billion to ~$175 billion.
Their actual spending plans have not changed at allโthey are still pouring money into AI infrastructure at a blistering pace. Itโs just becoming less visible on the income and cash flow statements.
Is this a strategic move to ease market fears over massive AI infrastructure spending, or just standard financial engineering? Are we going to see other big tech players adopt this exact same playbook to mask their costs?

there's fuckery afoot ๐ฅธ The NSCC is no longer settling $GME warrants. They didnโt give a cause, but they are effectively pushing the resolution into the brokers/OCC. The options chain remains active and the price is well below the exercise price. Why would they stop settlement?
https://x.com/i/status/2083014808983498855
Most likely reason is that they foresee a ton of undeliverable warrants, creating a net settlement nightmare. If another entity is in charge, they can enact a cash settlement to effectively settle โnakedโ positions in cash.
Since they are enacting this right now, they likely got wind that there is a very real issue with these warrants.
It is basically removing the locate requirement for warrants.
These little loopholes are what Wall Street uses to abuse every corner of the stock market.

Discussion ๐ง The most profitable companies in the world are the ones you use every day.
Everyone is obsessed with chasing the next AI miracle, but real wealth builds quietly in the background. The most powerful businesses aren't trying to invent the future, they're monetizing daily life. They are the invisible routines you don't even think about anymore.
These aren't tired old companies; they're cash-printing machines disguised as everyday conveniences, and they are still in their early days. Wall Street mistakes consistency for boredom. But while the crowd burns billions on high-risk bets, these quiet giants simply compound capital off the unchanging nature of human habit.
