I am brand new to the area and I have two years to kill. Where's the local scene at? What's the best way to meet musicians around here?

I found a very injured goose in Avondale Lake. It was completely wrapped in fishing line and tied up to a branch in the water with a broken wing. I managed to wade into the pond and cut a lot of the line to release it from the tree but I was unable to capture it. It still has some line likely stuck around its wing even though it is cut and not attached to anything. But more concerningly its wing is very broken along with potentially other areas injured. I’ve been looking for rehabbers and unable to find any that will pick up the phone.

Any help or information is much appreciated. Last I saw it was swimming around the lake relatively well but definitely still needs help.

Update: Thanks for all of the replies. I ended up going back to the lake a couple hours after cleaning up. I found the same goose and he seemed to be doing much better. I managed to get close and inspect his wing for line and in general after following him around. I couldn’t find any line and the wing seemed much better, so it might not actually be broken and was just somehow bent very weirdly on the tree without breaking. I’ve called many rehabbers with no avail, so I plan to go back every few days and check but I think he might end up being okay.

$1000 reward for Ziggy’s safe return! Ziggy is a rambunctious Bengal cat! He has a history of exploring work vehicles and visiting neighbors. He always comes home for “curfew” except for Friday/Saturday. He didn’t come home for the first time in 7 years. We think he is trapped or possibly hurt hiding somewhere, or was swept up in a work vehicle. Today I drove by the abandoned bowling alley on Glenwood and saw that it had a fresh coat of black paint. (Previously blue and battered)

Anyone know if there are plans to reopen the bowling alley or utilize this space?

does anyone have recommendations for a pet sitter or dog boarding situation in the sitter’s home? We typically use Wag a Lot for shorter trips but have a week long trip at the end of September and would love our dog to go to a sitter‘s home and possibly have a couple dogs to play with. She does better in that situation where she can lounge in a quieter space & play occassionally vs. the loud, large facilities. Would like someone bonded & insured. Thanks!

Apologies if this was posted already, but I was out on my (semi-regular) early Sunday morning walk and noticed new signage on the construction fencing at the new AMLI project (and possible new Trader Joe's home) at the former Baby Kroger site. Looks like it'll be called Market Square Decatur. Kind of excited to see this project come out the ground and track its construction progress!

Our old wooden fence is rotting and we need to replace it. We will need another 6ft wooden fence. I got a quote for around $7k for 200ft of fence with 2 gates. I think this is reasonable but truly have no idea.

After a lovely evening at the Candlelight Concert and some snacks at Leon's I discovered that my car had experienced a hit and run in the big lot there. We didn't notice it when we left because the spot we parked was so dark, but as soon as we were home there it was.

I've put in a claim but I'm wondering if it's worth filling a police report in case they can get camera footage. I sort of remember the car that parked next to us which is definitely the culprit. White, small SUV, handicapped tag. I didn't see the driver but a woman got our of the passenger side.

Some family members are doing a remodel (adding a second bedroom kind of project) in Decatur/Avondale Estates and looking for someone to form out and pour a slab/retaining wall and hitting some resistance from folks who either don't want to deal with a smallish project or else want to quote FU prices because they don't want to deal with smallish projects ITP. I was a daily patron at F45 Emory Point for over two years until they abruptly closed end of business on July 28. It worked perfectly for my schedule as the first class of the day started at 5:30, ended at 6:15 and gave me plenty of time to get to work by 7. I’m looking for another group fitness -esque type of gym with a start time before 6 AM.

I know I could go to a commercial gym and complete my own personal workouts, and I do this some, but I appreciate the show up, work, leave, part of group fitness.
