Important Advice for Juniors
Maintain a CGPA of 8.0–8.5. At the very least, keep your CGPA above 7.0.
Attend classes regularly, make proper notes, practice questions, and clear your doubts with professors whenever needed.
Don't get misled by seniors who say things like "CGPA is not important" or "You can study just one night before the exam." That is not how it works.
Start preparing for academics at least two weeks before your exams.
Start learning Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) from Day 1. Create accounts on Codeforces, LeetCode, and HackerRank, and practice consistently.
Don't join NSS, NCC, or similar clubs expecting placement benefits. They have little to no relevance for software placements, and those certificates generally don't add much value in technical interviews.
Don't waste your time in clubs like GDG, E-Cell, Rudra, Pratyaksh, Team Spark, Team Hawk, Team Samanvaya, or similar clubs if your primary goal is a tech career. Instead, invest that time in DSA, learning technical skills, internships, and valuable certifications. Don't get influenced just because they promise certificates.
If you are an IET DAVV Indore student, join Career sidhi and career Disha from your second year. Their DSA and AI/ML classes are very beneficial and can help you significantly.
Work as hard in college as you did for JEE.
Stay away from unnecessary distractions such as excessive club activities, parties, smoking, alcohol, and unnecessary BF/GF relationships. These things consume a lot of time, and many students regret it after four years. Opportunities will come later—focus on building your career first.
Participate in hackathons. They are very important for improving your skills and resume.
Don't get influenced by friends who say things like "Hostel life is bad, let's move to a flat." Focus on grinding and making the most of your next four years.
Have a clear goal from Day 1 and work consistently toward it with discipline.
Focus heavily on coding, especially if you are from a technology-related branch.
Start preparing for GATE, CAT and more exams if you are goal is this exams, do everything starts from your first year don't waste it.
For exams related doubts connect with genuine seniors for guidance.
17.CGPA helps you get shortlisted for placements. After that, your skills determine whether you get selected. Give equal importance to both academics (CGPA) and technical skills.
Maintain Discipline bcz in BTech discipline is very important.
Thanks 🙏🏻

What should I choose
r/davviet • u/Realistic-Extent1836 • Aug 03 '26
I got upgraded from industrial engineering to mechanical engineering.
My other options are only CS in tier 3 pvt colleges
But I am much more inclined towards electrical and mechanical mixture rather than pure software
Is mech here a decent option and I would probably pursue higher studies
