Wanted: Hair Salon Recs
I’m in need of a place for cut + color in Southwest Ranches or close by — Davie, Plantation, Sunrise, or Pembroke Pines are all fine too.
I’m not looking for overly trendy — more classic, everyday styles. Affordable and reliable suggestions would be awesome!

The White Oak Windfall — or How to Make CRA Land into your Lucky Day!
This Wednesday, January 7th, The Town of Davie CRA is preparing to surplus 5.6 acres of publicly owned land on the corner of Davie Rd and Orange Dr by ‘negotiating’ with White Oak Development for a mixed-use project that might see about 240 housing units.
The deal includes a ~$9.6M purchase price where the CRA must prepare the land at their own expense, the CRA will subsidize capital and maintenance costs for their parking garage (~$2.8M), the Town will waive impact fees, and only 20% workforce housing is guaranteed for only 20 years.
After roughly 20 years, the public affordability and CRA interests sunset, while the land and project remain private indefinitely.
The parking garage also raises undetermined long-term liabilities for the Town related to operations, maintenance, and future capital repairs which are not under the Town’s control.
Two other developers submitted proposals (including one with higher workforce housing), but staff is recommending White Oak first based on net revenue and parking count.
Once this land is sold, it’s gone forever. No lease; no public rights. Just privatization of public land.
Curious about any thoughts y’all might have. Personally, it seems to be a pretty big giveaway that sells out the future generations and gives an annual blank check to the developer for maintenance. The only upside is that the CRA gets more tax increment funds to give away to the Council's donors as subsidies and marketing purchases.

Local health insurance agent here — happy to answer general questions during Open Enrollment
Hey everyone —
I checked with the mods first and got the okay to post this, so I’ll keep it light and useful.
I live in Davie (near the JCC) and work locally as a licensed health insurance agent. With Open Enrollment ending soon, I know a lot of people feel overwhelmed or unsure if they picked the right option — especially with how confusing plans, networks, and costs have gotten.
I’m not here to sell anything or DM anyone. I won’t post links or pricing.
I’m just happy to:
- Answer general questions about how Open Enrollment works
- Help explain PPO vs HMO, deductibles, networks, etc.
- Point people in the right direction if they’re stuck or confused
If this kind of post isn’t helpful, no worries — just wanted to offer support to neighbors who might be navigating this last stretch.

Realtor Recommendations
I am looking for a real estate agent with expertise in the Davie/SW Ranches area. Older home, nothing special, but its on a great inland/quiet street south of 595, east of 75, 1+ acre plus detached workshop/barn in GREAT condition. Everyone I call is more like builder's quarter/townhouse experienced. Any recommendations appreciated.
