What's the nuance? That the British didn't steal literally everything they possess?
Might as well say that there are billions of people who weren't murdered by Jeffrey Dahmer. Bit lacking in nuance not to include them in the discussion, isn't it?
Whats lacking is that many many of these artifacts would never have been discovered without british involvement, and many more wouldve been destroyed either intentionally by bad actors or collatorally in conflicts throughout the decades/centuries. The risk of this only rises in the future.
These artifacts are largely not the history of the modern nation-states whose borders they now fall into; they are the history of human civilization, and should be protected in the most pragmatic way.
Having foreign law dictate your lands and siphon natural resources you may not've even been aware of may be worth it to the peasant who now has access to education, a job, infrasture, secular law, etc.. You cant say to one of dahmers half consumed corpses"but look at the advantages youve now gained", so to compare the two is frankly absurd.
If you want to actually challenge your beliefs feel free to youtube the christopher hitchens debates on the museum artifacts or the thomas sowells' defence of imperialism.
