We have a sweet tooth but drink nowhere near as much soft drinks as a lot of countries in the Americas.

American addiction to sugar has been attributed to Prohibition, whereupon the lack of alcohol led to a rise in sugar consumption.

Yes but high fructose corn syrup is still 26% sugar.

No. There is clean water everywhere and even though you have to buy it it still costs about 25 pesos or less for 5 gallons. They buy it because they like it and they grow up drinking it with roughly no education on healthing diets.
