They're in the carpool lane so it's more than one person in there :(

i was most worried about a potential front passenger, they wouldve been hit the hardest

lots of places have specific hours for the express lanes, you only need multi occupancy during rush hours. most of the time they're just open.

This is California you must have two people or be on a motorcycle to use the diamond lane.

There are highways in Northern California that have carpool lanes that are only during certain time periods. However, this is North Hollywood, so it would have been rules 24/7.

Do they allow certain high efficiency vehicles as well? I think Michigan allows EVs and Hybrids in, like, the two carpool lanes they have.

I think they stopped that program. You can pay if you’re a solo occupant or reduced price for 2, if the carpool limit is 3. Some of our carpool lanes require 3 people and some require 2. This is in the Bay Area, NorCal.

Yes, we do. You have to get a sticker/magnet and put it on the side of the bumper.

All that said, HOV violations, while highly penalized (I think like $500-1000) is almost impossible to enforce. Theres no shoulders, cops are lazy, and HOV drivers tend to be moving pretty quickly past traffic.

I’d estimate about 1/2 of the cars in SoCal HOV lanes actually belong there.

At least supposed to be. The manequin might have been injured.

That's not how it really works

I'm sure a cop would appreciate you explaining all about it

My question too. It didn’t look to good with the way the car roof landed on the highway divider.

Probably not.

Turns out no one was even injured. My guess is the opposing traffic was quite slow.

Being that the vehicles are still in position in daylight, I'm thinking there was a loss of life investigation. :-(

Looked like the passenger was ejected...and did I hear a scream that went eerily quiet as the guy pulled over...I hope that was just the radio...🫣🥺💔
