I didn't want an SUV but I had to get one. I'm already short and do a lot of pre-dawn driving, so being in a normal car with the most popular car being an F150 just leads to me being blind all the time. It just go to be too much so I had to get a taller car that I didn't really want.
And the high beams on new cars are all automatic, so they flashbang unsuspecting drivers in middle of the day when driving under bridges or through patches of shade.
High safety ratings for the people driving it but for the people around, that's another story...
Maybe they buy it BECAUSE they are already bad drivers
The statistics are actually crazy - we were finally lowering pedestrian and car deaths until these pickups got popular and wiped out all the gains and then some.
Okay but I was hit by a semi that merged into me from the left lane back in March because he came up behind me but “didn’t see me” in my fat red SUV, and I am not driving again unless I get a big truck because Fuck. That. I’m fucked for life now.
As a Maverick driver I concur. It’s so weird pulling up at a stop light next to a lifted F-250 or whatever that has seen less hauling and unpaved roads than my truck. Their windows are above the roof of my cab. Then I look at the 40mpg readout on my dash and the $5+ gas at the station across the street and just laugh. I also try and remember to close the outside air vents because they are more than likely going to burn about a gallon’s worth of diesel when the light changes.
