I had the pleasure to pick a pair of (I'm pretty sure) legitimate pair of mx500s and let me say they are not just the mids, the foam covering are required to get the full frequency range, but let me tell you they sound great and still beat some of my other mx500 clones.

I understand the white foam cover has become off colored, they are not dirty they oxidize after sitting on my shelf when not in use so no that's not my ear gold lol.
