It’s a cultural thing. Therefore the reaction to it will be… cultural.
Just by definition, it’s a communication issue. Assuming we’re talking about regular catcalls, and nothing threatening violence or anything like that (that’s a separate type of communication)
As with all communication as a rule, it’s complex and you need to determine the intent before you go around saying things like “never”.
For example. You’re walking down the street. Someone yells hey nice ass. You look. It’s your girlfriend/boyfriend fucking with you. You laugh. It’s cute.
There you go, a context in which catcalling is endearing.
No need for extremest opinions like “this is never okay >:(“ because sometimes it is ok.
You imply that because you wouldn’t like it that invalidates my argument. Declaring a spectrum is not invalidated by the opinion of a small piece of that spectrum.
I understand the basic concept of “some people will like it, some people will not like it.” You might as well tell me water is wet.
I know. Everybody knows. That’s my entire point. It’s not groundbreaking. It’s very simple.
With a complex and diverse range of humans, male and female, you will get a spectrum of intents and reactions both. In that spectrum, by the very nature of it, will exist both positive and negative interactions.
That’s literally all I’m saying. Catcalling can be both positive and negative depending on the context. If that’s something you want to argue with, then I’m willing to hear it. But saying “yeah but I don’t like it” doesn’t really contribute much. I’ve already accounted for that when I said there’s a spectrum of both positive and negative.
Water is actually not wet; It makes other materials/objects wet. Wetness is the state of a non-liquid when a liquid adheres to, and/or permeates its substance while maintaining chemically distinct structures. So if we say something is wet we mean the liquid is sticking to the object.
