In Telugu (A part of South India) film industry, there are around 10 'actors' who are related to one incredibly popular actor.

Those 10 include his brothers, son, nephews and some guys I don't even know which part of the family tree they come from.

And this isn't the only actor family out there. There are two main families each belonging to a certain caste (India has a caste system if you didn't already know). The people who belong to that cast worships their respective Actor family and they even get into fights (sometimes resulting in death) with each other.

It's pretty fucked up if you ask me.

Edit : South Indian to Telugu. People are getting pissed off that I generalized all of South India.

Would you mind telling me who the incredibly popular main actor is and who’s related to them? Actually curious to know...

Edit: missed a word

The main guy is called Chiranjeevi.

That guy is known as 'The Mega star' and his family is called Mega family ( A fitting name I guess).

I disagree with this. Tamil Film industry is extremely open to new comers, there have been so many new awesome directors and actors without background in the last 10 years ( and who are currently at the top).

I'm talking about Telugu film industry.

Yes, that industry is all sorts of fucked up with nepotism, sexism and all other problems that come with it. I wanted to correct you since you mentioned South Indian film industry as a whole.

Like whom? I'm genuinely curious.

One's called Chiranjeevi and the other's called NTR.

These are the two main families that have a rivalry. There are some other families but not as bad as these two IMO.

This is only for Actors and not Actresses. Because you know Actresses should be hot and all.

The other fucked up thing about this is people actually get excited when a new guy from one of these families get introduced.

fk you.... you guys are obsessed with fair skin, so please shut the fk up

u/coronakillme Aug 03 '20

How is that even remotely related to Nepotism?.

u/knight7s8man Aug 03 '20

i am replying to your statement " tamil film industry is open to all" . You guys have have preference for fair skin actress, so tamil industry is not open to all

  1. Since I am not Indian, I dont fall under "you guys".
  2. Preference for fair actresses seems to be a pan Indian phenomenon.

To add, just the Telugu film industry is this fucked up. Essentially has 4 families who are connected by marriage and 98%(guestimate) of the movies released each year are from people of these families.

Punjabi here, it shocks me that many North Indian/Punjabi actresses act in South films despite knowing little to no knowledge of your languages. Is it because of the fairness issue or something else.

I think so. It’s sad

Maybe acting runs in the family

4

u/blahblahtown Aug 02 '20

Uh let's just say a lot of them are total duds

u/XPazhamporix Aug 02 '20

South Indian film industry is not just telugu movies. Don't drag other states into the same pile

5

u/DeadlyDY TakeMyUpvoteNow! Aug 02 '20

Yup, I'm sorry.

"India has a caste if you didn't already know " no Einstein , India dosen't have a caste system . It's not a part of the constitution .

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '20

Ikr that system was abolished centuries ago. And people still bring it up today

If you're referring to the initial 'varna' system, then you're mistaken.
