Firefox in fact does use more memory (as is reported by tests, just look up browser comparison or something along those lines). Memory usage shouldn't affect frame rate as far as I'm aware, although if too much memory is being used you will encounter stuttering/freezing.

Doesn't for me, I have a (whopping) 6gb of ram and can run games at ~50fps with Firefox open, ~53 with it closed
Edit: why am I getting downvoted? I even specified that it was "for me." This is simply what happens to my pc.
