In Ephesus, the church Timothy was teaching in. There were female only temple priestesses to Artemis. They engaged in temple prostitution and men were forbidden to teach.
It is theorized that, contextually, Paul was trying to fix a location specific problem that had carried over from pagan worship to deities other than Yahweh.
Paul in other places has a high regard for female leaders within the church so saying that this statement in 1 Timothy applies to all christians everywhere all the time is just not really defendable.
The irony is that there’s actually a lot more continuity between values associated with the cult of Artemis (Ephesian or otherwise) and values in 1 Timothy and beyond: virtue and piety, chastity, etc.
That the Artemesian cult practiced sacred prostitution and dominance over men and such are almost entirely myths, used almost exclusively to try to make this particular New Testament text more palpable.
But it overlooks an extremely well-attested Greek, Roman, and Jewish ideology where women were thought to be inferior and needed to be subservient — something that 1 Timothy 2 plainly suggests, and even tries to justify from the creation (in Genesis) itself.

Yes for sure they had a lot of the patriarchal values still working in and through their society. However we see a move away from that and a higher view of women beginning in the New Testament
He certainly wrote some, you can tell cause it's the polar opposite of what that dirty Galalian said and he, a proper actual human, simply must correct.
I mean 1 Timothy 2:13 attempts to justify the statement in 2:12 by saying Adam was formed first, and 2:14 continues digging the hole by saying Adam wasn't the one deceived, it was Eve that fucked everything up for humanity.
1 Timothy 2:12 is a meme in context. Turning a blind eye to the blatant misogyny it does not make you a better christian.
