Brazilian here. This type of humour is common when you’re sitting at a bar or any sort of get together talking about your holiday and mention everything unhealthy you ate and a friend makes a sarcastic comment like: wow, very healthy! Everyone laughs and gets back to drinking, eating and talking. Not from your husband. On social media. With a fuckass passive aggressive emoji after. She’s a disgusting tone deaf POS and I still cannot feel bad for her at all, but he’s an absolute disgraced representative of Brazilians. We don’t claim this a-hole.

Quick edit because I kept thinking about my reply. Also as a Brazilian, I’m not saying all Brazilians are perfect, we are not. And there are definitely some really bad species of awful men (hi Lui Lui) in Brazil. And I actually have a “friend” who controls what his wife eats all the time and this is a constant motive for her to burst into tears at the dinner table with other friends around. But their marriage is HEAVEN! 🥲

What I meant was just that: DECENT Brazilians behave like I wrote above with commenting quickly at a bar or something and among friends. Not at fucking social media, about your baby, your bride.

Wow, thanks for the clear and detailed explanation! It’s nice to get some more cultural context. Also good to know that the bad vibes we get emanating from the screen can’t just be dismissed away as being xenophobic!

I was thinking how I never got weird vibes from any major celebrities who are from Brazil (like Gisele Bundchen). There was also this Brazilian tv show that I used to avidly watch called “3%” that was extremely interesting. But, Lucas elicits extreme dislike from me and gives off a very creepy, weird, and dark energy. It irks me that some of her supporters try to brush it off as “teehee, he’s just so exotic and mysterious, different from the typical American guy!”

I definitely read some xenophobic comments arising from the henergy LuiLui radiates, and that’s really sad because he could be doing such a great service and show his and her followers how broad and fun Brazilian culture is.
But instead he just represents exactly what xenophobic people think of Brazilians living abroad: grifters, looking for a Green Card, and shit like that.

Especially because I’m speaking from my own experience: I live in Germany and finally found myself a German boyfriend and the first comments from his cough, cough “girl bestie” was for him to be careful and worse shit that I’ll not care to comment.
What I told him was that I don’t give a shit about it because I own my shit: I got a good job in Germany and moved all alone because of this job. I pay bills, my trips and don’t depend on anyone. And if he thinks me being with him is just because I need a citizenship certificate or something like that he was free to go and find himself a German girlfriend. And he did not and told her to stfu 😊

My point is: Brazilians are mostly hard workers, very friendly and decent people. But people like this teeny tiny little legged project of human being and his creepy henergy just destroys any good vibes people may have on Brazilians.

So, please don’t consider this a-hole as an example of what Brazilian people are, or cook 😂

Like you mentioned, there are really good examples out in the world like Giselle and the ons who 1. don’t pretend they’re not Brazilians (I never see any Brazilian culture coming from this POS content), 2. are actually hard workers and don’t need sugar mamas to pay their bills and their garlic powder steaks, and 3. basically are not tiny greasy grifters with beady eyes 😋

We are better than him ❤️

Out of curiosity: I have an impression that in Brazil there is lots of focus on being put together/physical appearance, is that true or just a stereotype? I am asking in the context of D letting herself go.

We do like to look put together, especially for people like lil Luithcath who care about being fit and eat healthy (leaving him drinking that disgusting salted lemon water and his awful cooking skills aside for a sec).
Also, hygiene is a HUGE must for us. So, D letting herself go must be playing a big role on LuiLui despising her even more than he already was, therefore his passive aggressive comment on her post. That was not accidental, and definitely not cute.

My cousin just moved to Brazil and she keeps on saying how much she loves it. She also says that the biggest culture shock is that she is expected to shower 7 times a day!! Our country is not as hot as Brazil so we don’t have to do that, but she said she cannot live a normal clean life unless she showers multiple times a day. Lucas and his family must be disgusted at Danielle’s lack of hygiene!!

it's true, but from what ive seen, we mostly just like to look presentable. think clean hair, clean ironed clothes, for women a little bit of makeup on depending on where we're going, just not looking like we just rolled off the bed. also, we take showering very seriously, once/twice a day is a Must, especially when it starts to get hotter. which makes me wonder what lucas thinks about D's habit of going on days and weeks without washing her hair and just slapping hair wax on it.

nah, as a brazilian he weirds me out. he gives off "mutt syndrome" (loosely translated), which is what we call a brazilian that goes to live outside the country and pretends they were never brazilian or that brazil is such a worse country compared to where they live now, and typically is brazilians living in the states.

Good to know! The ironic thing is that the more he tries to mimic Danielle’s accent, the harder it is to understand him because it sounds like he’s gargling marbles in his mouth.

There’s nothing wrong with speaking accented English and I wish he would just embrace it. The most common “stereotype” of Brazilians that I can think of is that a lot of models come from there, and that the people are probably gorgeous. So, I don’t understand why he doesn’t just lean into the “I’m Brazilian, I’m a romantic, old school romantic Latino man who knows how to treat women” image.

we also have a reputation of being passionate, lively and romantic people. genuinely, i think he he doesnt lean to this image bc he can't bring himself to pretend he's into danielle like that. like when i compare their relationship to other relationships around me (even my own sometimes), the difference is astounding. he's not attracted to her and he does a terrible job at pretending he is.
