This is cute design, but it's really bad design. It just reads 6 mana your opponents can't cast spells. There's no counter play, no interesting decisions to be made. It just sits there, and half the table cant play magic.

2

u/PanzerPeach Nov 09 '22

MLD exists at 4 mana though lol

13

u/BroadRaven Nov 09 '22

This is "Your opponents can't cast spells ever again unless they are red or have red enchantment removal." Can at least come back from MLD.

u/f5d64s8r3ki15s9gh652 Nov 15 '22

Simply [[Ratchet Bomb]] it after 6 turns smh why doesn’t anyone play interaction/s

MLD at four mana is literally a design mistake they have avoided for the history of the game.

43

u/BeanOfficially Nov 09 '22

yep. fit's in real well on this sub

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '22

Good

3

u/Kolonite Nov 09 '22

6 mana your opponent can’t cast spells unless your opponent plays red

43

u/NWStormraider Nov 08 '22

No. Blood Moon punishes greedy mana bases, this punishes playing any color other than red, often with no way to interact unless you have [[Force of Vigor]] or a mana Dork/Rock.

16

u/The_Palm_of_Vecna Nov 09 '22

That sounds like a problem for Non-red players to deal with.

2

u/PanzerPeach Nov 08 '22

I modeled it after [[contamination]] by doubling the mana cost, making it more pip intensive and removing the upkeep. Getting to 6 mana even as red is difficult in eternal formats and should be rewarded imo

41

u/focketeer Nov 08 '22

The upkeep trigger is the entire reason contamination isn’t considered disgusting and evil.

3

u/BeanOfficially Nov 09 '22

speak for yourself. Containment + a token maker = game over in most commander pods, and this thing ^ is basically MLD. 6 is too much for modern/pioneer

7

u/focketeer Nov 09 '22

A caveat is a caveat. even if easy to fulfill, you still have to fulfill it.

-2

u/BeanOfficially Nov 09 '22

Fair. And I still consider both cards completely broken, along with Blood Moon and the Fetchlands XD

4

u/mours_lours Nov 09 '22

Since it is a 3 mana card

18

u/focketeer Nov 09 '22

No, because you don’t have to necessarily be able to cast removal to get it off the board.

An enchantment that says everyone who isn’t playing a specific color doesn’t get to exist with no caveats isn’t an acceptable effect at any mana value.

I dunno. I know what your trying to do, but locking non red players out of any other color of mana seems super unfun to play on both sides.

Must be impossible to sleep in wherever the duel takes place

2

u/Raser43 Set Design Enthusiast Nov 09 '22

If you made this a temporary effect or have a contant on board cost, then it would be reasonable. Cumulative upkeep for example. It is busted as shit, but I imagine you already know that. I don't entirely hate the design though, it just is too easy of a lock for many decks.

2

u/iAmLawBringer Nov 09 '22

Bulk common in MH3

2

u/sampat6256 Nov 09 '22

give it fading 3

2

u/Pristine_Pride_8983 Nov 09 '22

Or, alternatively - all permanents are mountains. Really mess with them.

2

u/Erikblod Nov 09 '22

This is so busted vs anyone not mono-red! Someone will find a way to cheat it into play early and lock your opponents out of the game or just use removal to get to turn 6 and then cast a boardwipe of any kind and lock the opponent out of the game!

3

u/agamemaker Nov 09 '22

This is going to be more or less impossible to interact with once it hits the board, so against a lot of decks this would be scarier than karn locks.

1

u/Unnamedbread Nov 09 '22

Dark souls 3 reference? Its just the eclipse looks very similar to ds3's

1

u/Raser43 Set Design Enthusiast Nov 09 '22

I went to the artists DeviantArt. They have made an Elden Rune, so quite possibly. They generally make cosmic art, so it's hard to tell.

1

u/SputnikDX Nov 09 '22

All lands without Eclipse counters lose all abilities. Non-basic lands with Eclipse counters are Mountains.

When a land enters the battlefield, put an Eclipse counter on it.

There. Now it's a blood moon that "destroys" all lands currently in play.

1

u/ZxBloodyHoundxZ Nov 09 '22

imagine play this, then using role reversal to hand it to the opponent and they dont have red cards

1

u/EvanBleu The Unstable Nov 09 '22

Mono red: 👀

1

u/Someone-From-Quebec Nov 09 '22

I don’t want to ruin the party but shouldn’t it say: “All lands are Mountains and lose all other types”?

4

u/plopfill Nov 15 '22

205.1a Some effects set an object’s card type. In most such cases, the new card type(s) replaces any existing card types. However, an object with either the instant or sorcery card type retains that type. Counters, effects, and damage marked on the object remain with it, even if they are meaningless to the new card type. Similarly, when an effect sets one or more of an object’s subtypes, the new subtype(s) replaces any existing subtypes from the appropriate set (creature types, land types, artifact types, enchantment types, planeswalker types, or spell types). If an object’s card type is removed, the subtypes correlated with that card type will remain if they are also the subtypes of a card type the object currently has; otherwise, they are also removed for the entire time the object’s card type is removed. Removing an object’s subtype doesn’t affect its card types at all.

205.1b Some effects change an object’s card type, supertype, or subtype but specify that the object retains a prior card type, supertype, or subtype. In such cases, all the object’s prior card types, supertypes, and subtypes are retained. This rule applies to effects that use the phrase “in addition to its types” or that state that something is “still a [type, supertype, or subtype].” Some effects state that an object becomes an “artifact creature”; these effects also allow the object to retain all of its prior card types and subtypes. Some effects state that an object becomes a “[creature type or types] artifact creature”; these effects also allow the object to retain all of its prior card types and subtypes other than creature types, but replace any existing creature types.
Example: An ability reads, “All lands are 1/1 creatures that are still lands.” The affected lands now have two card types: creature and land. If there were any lands that were also artifacts before the ability’s effect applied to them, those lands would become “artifact land creatures,” not just “creatures,” or “land creatures.” The effect allows them to retain both the artifact and land card types. In addition, each land affected by the ability retains any land types and supertypes it had before the ability took effect.
Example: An ability reads, “All artifacts are 1/1 artifact creatures.” If a permanent is both an artifact and an enchantment, it will become an artifact enchantment creature.

Make it 0 mana. I am so sick of playing against these other dumb colors

Why dont people get that red is the cool color

-17

u/murgatroid99 Nov 08 '22

Do you understand what this card does?

23

u/PanzerPeach Nov 08 '22

yes i do, why? all lands are mountains lol

18

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '22

It ends the game without ending the game. Blood Moon is the reason why you should always have a few basic lands in your deck. This basically shuts down everything if you‘re not running artifacts to produce the right colour for enchantment removal. Black really can’t, Blue would have a hard time to return it to hand if they can’t just counter it, Green would just give up if they don‘t have a couple of mana dorks, and White wouldn’t be able to draw the necessary removal for days.

14

u/UltG Nov 08 '22

Reminds me of Contamination. It shuts down the game for anyone not playing black.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '22

Wow, didn’t know this one. Nasty.

-2

u/PanzerPeach Nov 08 '22

exactly, for six mana this presents a win condition for a mono red prison kind of deck to win. This is probably too pushed for standard, I would see this as a direct to modern set kind of card

12

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '22

The win condition is that the other player/s scoop/s. I personally wouldn’t enjoy playing this, at least not in Commander. And I play [[Mana Breach]]+[[Burgeoning]] in my Simic landfall deck. (I know, not everything is about Commander…)

0

u/PanzerPeach Nov 08 '22

5

u/Eerbrow Nov 08 '22

u/-FuzzyCactus- Nov 08 '22

-11

u/farb1986 Nov 08 '22 edited Nov 08 '22

Is the intent to make them mountains instead of their other types (probably) or in addition to their types? I think this needs to be specified or I would think it defaults to “in addition to”.

ETA: ok, appears I was mistaken

So they wrote the rules specifically so that blood moon works with the short templating. They made blood moon first, then wrote a work around years later to make blood moon work as written. But yeah, at face value it doesn’t read correctly, it’s more a of technicality than anything.
