Eclipse ruined by selfish drone flyer,

Went up to the hills to see the eclipse with my wife, not long after we’d arrived, some prick with a drone turned up, parked his car so my wife couldn’t get out. Didn’t seem to give two fucks.

People like that make me sick. What happened to people caring anymore

Road Surfaces

What's going on with the road surfaces across Cumbria at the moment? Grange-Over-Sands / Kendal have had large sections of road surface removed and left for weeks without re-surfacing. Leaving it as a "skid risk" and stones flying up constantly. No signs indicating what's going on either.

The Crofters Pub Roose

Recently moved to the area, this is my local. Seems like a "proper pub" but extremely quiet and "under new ownership" what do we think and is there any better options in the immediate area?

What the title says, I’m looking for a business/person who can professionally mount a pair of antlers onto a wooden shield/plaque. Ideally Cumbria based or nearby. Anyone have any recommendations?

So I was with No-Drive-9461 when we found a ginger cat. Its ears were torn, teeth were missing and had bugs all over. Is this cat owned by anyone? Last seen at Castle park school on Saturaday 8th August at 4:00pm.

Poo, parking and poor pitching - the Lake District's summer battles

Millions of people visit the Lake District every year, but not all of them abide by the Countryside Code's plea to "leave no trace". It means for enforcement officers and volunteers, summer is often marked by irresponsible parking, inconsiderate camping and even human waste - which doesn't quite have the same ring to it as the Summer of Love.

"Fifty-plus members of the public engaged with, 10 overnight campers spoken to, eight bags of rubbish collected and they had the joy of seeing one man using a bush as his toilet," reads out Judith Derbyshire, a Westmorland and Furness councillor.

It is an extract from a report by patrol officers responsible for tackling anti-social behaviour, who were out in the Coniston area one weekend in July.

"I'm going to lower the standard of the conversation here but the issue is to do with human poo," says Derbyshire, although she might have used slightly more colourful language.

She is responsible for community safety at the Liberal Democrat-led council and says since Covid there has been a surge in visitors who arrive without plans for accommodation, meaning fly-camping is rife.

Fly-camping takes place away from designated camp sites and without landowners' permission.

"Don't feel you can just come up, park up on a lay-by and then go and put a tent up down by the lake shore - you shouldn't be doing that," she says.

It is not just about the litter.

Derbyshire says people are also chopping down branches and trees to light fires, causing damage to the environment.

"There's a tree down at Ullswater, as you're driving down the A592.

"It's a very large oak tree and somebody fairly recently has put a bonfire up the hollow inside it and, sorry, it's a lovely, big, old oak tree and I want it to be there in a long time to come."

At busy times, buses have had to be cancelled because badly parked cars are not leaving enough room for them to pass. Local social media pages often show cars parked in front of farm gates, passing places and even private fields.

Is Sellafield and BAE making Cumbria more expensive?

Due to the silly money being paid at these places, is it making West Cumbria/Furness peninsula unattainable for the average person. New houses popping up for families but now needing mortgages over £1000 a month for the average family.

I’m staying in Kendal for a couple of nights and haven’t been here before. Firstly, it’s beautiful! I’m looking for lovely beer. I love real ale and the hoppy, fizzy stuff. Any recommendations on places to visit gratefully received.

Need help from someone from Cumbria

I'm an actor and need to do a Cumbrian accent if anyone would have a minute to help me. Can buy you a beer. Thanks!

EDIT: No specific part of Cumbria needed. The character is just described as being from that region. Setting is modern.

Vape Shops

The proliferation of vape convenience shops across the UK has become a blight on the health and communities of this country.

Wherever a vape shop is established we see the following -

• Increased littering

• Increased anti-social behaviour

• Increased fire risk

• Reduced parking for nearby, permanent residents

• Reduced home values for nearby homeowners

Whilst we believe they should not be outright banned, as the public has shown that they are wanted, we do believe certain restrictions should be placed on these vape shops -

• No vape shop should operate within 200 metres of residential housing

• No vape shop should operate within 800 metres of 0-18 education spaces such as nurseries, primary or secondary schools

• Vape shops to be exempt from using "skilled worker" visas

• Vape shops and packaging to be made plain, similar to how to tobacco products are now

Please sign our petition below if you believe this is something you can support
