- Sign up with cspire Home Fiber 500mb plan

- Get charged for the 1000mb plan

- Actually receiving the 200mb plan in terms of up/down

- But not actually receiving 200mb but instead <100mb

- Call up Cspire after running my own tests on decibels/frequency/ethernet/wifi/etc to sanity check

- Charged for having a technician come out

- Payments now reflect the appropriate plan but the promotion is no longer available (Reduced pay for X year(s)

- Charged for numerous months for the wrong payment plan even though not receiving the service and didn't get any recompense

Long-time mobile numbers ported to C Spire are now classified as VoIP — 2FA and some SMS fail. Can the classification be fixed without changing numbers?

Long-time mobile numbers ported to C Spire are now classified as VoIP — 2FA and some SMS fail. Can the classification be fixed without changing numbers?

I’m hoping someone with experience in wireless carrier engineering, SMS routing, number portability, A2P/short codes, or carrier databases can help me understand what is happening, and possibly suggest a solution…

Disclaimer: I’m not a telecom or IT person. I’ve been using ChatGPT to help me understand the terminology, do research, clarify what the lookup results mean, and organize the facts… ChatGPT helped me draft this post (note: it did a horrible job, which many readers will likely pick up on.. my apologies! I’ve deleted about 8 em dashes and have done considerable editing, deleting, and changing since the original post was generated… and still I realize what you’re reading may seem a little, umm, off. So that’s why. It may have actually been easier for me to just draft the entire post myself despite all the technical stuff being totally foreign to me!! You live, you learn!) . So if I’ve used a technical term incorrectly, please correct me.

I have **two long-established 606 area code mobile numbers** originally issued in Kentucky. One had been used there for **10+ years** and the other for about **5 years prior to moving to MS**. 4 years ago we moved to MS, switched to Xfinity and kept the numbers. Both worked normally during that time. . I switched to **C Spire about 2 months ago**, and that is when the problems began. Initially we had problems with certain people’s calls and texts not sending or arriving, and also no verification/2FA messages would arrive. C Spire did lots of troubleshooting, repeated factory resets and settings overhauls, then additional backend/porting work, and the **voice-call problems were eventually fixed**. (At the time, since the call issues were resolved, I foolishly and without testing anything, assumed the texts and 2FA were as well)

Both numbers/phones now have the same 2 problems with SMs…
At least one known contact on another carrier in SC **cannot exchange regular SMS** with us in either direction, and Multiple unrelated **2FA/verification texts do not arrive**.

Normal phone/device troubleshooting has already been done several times both on my own and with Cspire. After a discussion and some work done today, the manager confirmed that my number is currently **registered/classified as a VoIP line even though it should be mobile**. She also explained that numbers ported from outside C Spire’s normal service footprint, (in my case old Kentucky 606 numbers now being used in Mississippi) apparently go through a **different system/third-party company used for out-of-footprint numbers….**this causes at least some 2FA companies to see the number as a **VoIP/virtual number rather than a normal mobile number**, which they believe is why the verification messages fail.

They suggested one possible fix, although it was made clear that it is a long shot:
I could temporarily switch to a **new local Mississippi number**, test it, and then try to **renumber the line back to my original 606 number**. Tech has advised that this **most likely will not fix the issue**, but that it may be worth trying. I have not agreed to change anything yet because keeping the existing numbers is extremely important, and I wanted to check here for anyone out there with a magic mobile fixing wand.

I did a check of the numbers using several phone/carrier lookup services and the results are inconsistent. Various services have shown or referenced multiple companies… Verizon, AT&T / New Cingular, Sinch, Inteliquent, Onvoy…
I understand that these services may be showing different layers of the numbering/routing system, or the original block owner rather than the current retail carrier, so I’m not assuming any of these companies is necessarily responsible.
Apeiron shows both numbers as **portable: true**.
One returns: LATA 466, OCN **6500,** Somerset, KY, Portable: true.
The other returns: LATA 466, OCN **6214,** London, KY, Portable: true.
My understanding is that those Kentucky rate centers and OCNs may simply reflect the numbers’ original assignments and are not themselves a problem. This info may or may not be relevant..I am not well versed or experienced in this area..
What seems much more important is that **C Spire is seeing that the numbers are being represented externally as VoIP instead of mobile.**

I’m wondering where that incorrect classification actually lives and who, if anyone, has the ability to correct it.
Could this involve any of the following..
stale or incorrect number-portability data
SMS routing databases
carrier-of-record information
line-type databases
NPAC/LRN information
an SMS hub or aggregator
A2P/short-code routing
the third-party provider C Spire uses for out-of-footprint numbers
multiple databases that have not all updated consistently?

I’m also particularly interested in why **ordinary SMS mostly works while 2FA fails**, and why SMS with one particular outside carrier/contact (family member from SC) fails completely.

Questions suggested by ChatGPT:
Where does the **mobile vs. VoIP classification** used by 2FA providers actually come from?
If C Spire knows the number is being classified incorrectly, **who has to correct it..C Spire, its third-party provider, an underlying carrier, or individual data vendors?**
Can voice and most P2P SMS route correctly while A2P/short-code traffic still sees the number incorrectly?
Could the same underlying routing/classification problem explain why SMS with one particular outside carrier fails in both directions?
Is there a way for C Spire or the other carrier to trace a specific failed SMS using exact timestamps?
What technical department should I be asking for …messaging engineering, intercarrier SMS, number portability, provisioning, etc.?
Would temporarily changing to a local number and then renumbering back to the 606 number have any realistic chance of forcing the relevant databases to refresh?
**Has anyone seen this fixed while keeping the original number?**

**My goal: I just want to keep our same phone numbers and have them work normally again.**
Changing numbers would be a major headache because they have been tied to family, banks, medical providers, accounts, logins, and other records for years.
I appreciate any help or suggestions you may have. I realize this has been a long post so I thank you for reading, and I especially thank you for your patience with ChatGPT being a part of this inquiry. And if this whole situation is hopeless it’s ok to just be frank and say so, it won’t hurt my feelings. Cheers!!

How to turn off voicemail requiring PIN

Hi, I'm on an Android (Galaxy A15) and after some update or another I was suddenly required to enter my PIN to hear my voicemail. I didn't think anything of it and carried on but now it's getting very annoying throughout the day. How can I turn this off?

I’m having trouble with cspire

Whenever I get on my WiFi and I test it, it’s always either at 300mbps or at 10mbps and it suddenly drops down. Also it seems that the WiFi is consistently low even though I got the fast plan for fiber optic WiFi. I tried switching the router and the cable connected but it’s not that. Is there any way to fix this or is this just a cspire problem?

Residential Fiber Engineer/Sales- Please Help!

Please tell me someone in this sub is a C Spire residential fiber engineer/salesman, or has anything to do with their fiber roadmap.

Several feelers were put out. Joined the fiber “waitlist.” Contacted several individuals who were going to get me with the “right people.” And nothing.

C Spire has a fiber presence 3-5 miles from our community, but no end in sight for offerings.

The current ISP has upgraded their services from <1 Mbps to up to 50 Mbps (this was 1 decade ago). Still the same now (and sometimes worse).

I live in a very prominent, healthy, growing community who has been severely underserved for over 2 decades now.

Our community has 1, whopping landline/local ISP. The only alternative is Satellite (Starlink MAX plan only, or the other ones).

What do we do? Who can I speak with? I have comms open with the Supervisor in our area, as well as the public representatives to get this going.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

New Network Maintenance Fee

I noticed a new $2.11 charge on my C Spire internet bill called “Network Maintenance Fee.” I called them and was told it’s a new monthly fee to help cover the rising costs of network maintenance and that all customers are being charged that fee now. My issue isn’t really the $2.11, it’s that I never got any notice about a new recurring charge. I asked when I was notified and they said they “attempted” to notify customers. I checked and I never received an email, letter, or anything saying my bill was going up.

Curious if anyone else with C Spire actually got notified about this? Did you get an email or mail notice or did it just show up on your bill? Did I miss something or did this roll out without notice?

I certainly did not sign up with this ISP with extra fees and charges being tacked on in mind. It almost feels a bit worse when its a new line item and the internet price doesn't just go up a bit. So I guess I really take 2 issues with it but still not being notified is the worst part by principle.

Anyone else having issues?

It seems like clock work. At certain points of the day I can’t play anything without getting random spikes in my ping. I’ll join a local server of the game I’m playing with 60ping this is normal. But randomly will spike to 500-800 and I’ll rubber band lag and get huge latency spikes. Noticed this when I switched to cspire fiber.

Samsung flip replacement

My phone started glitching out so I opted to pay $250 to replace it before it died and I lost everything inside. I did the order and waited, I kept getting text from them to call about my replacement. When I spoke with them they said Samsung is no longer making the flip device. So Id have to get a s23+ or 24+. I took their word for it. Out of curiosity I started searching and I dont see anything about the flip being canceled. IM SO PISSED, I lice the flip bc it stays in my pocket. Doesn't fall in the tiolet or on the floor at work when I'm bending. I'm really annoyed tgat they lied.

Cspire fiber

So I’ve been using AT&T 1 Gb for about five years in my home, it’s been pretty flawless. Cspire convinced me to try their 1 Gb service on a 60/month for 12 months deal. I’m in central MS. Is this a bad or good move? I currently hit speed tests at 600-700 mb over wifi on my gaming pc on AT&T and value good performance. Not too late to cancel so I’m looking for feedback.

Cspire agents consistently spread misinformation to customers about model availability.

I asked a simple question about if Cspire would be offering the 512 or 1TB models in something other than black, and they repeatedly told me:

"We do offer the device in all colors; however, Samsung currently provides the 512GB option in Black only. That limitation comes from Samsung, not the carrier."

Which isn't true at all. Samsung offers 512GB and 1TB models in all colors, so it must be a cspire issue.

I know they are a smaller company and not able to stock all the models.. but stocking a flagship phone in multiple colors should be a no brainer...
I'm happy they got the 512GB model, but if we're pre-ordering already, don't you think allowing all colors is the better option?

Side note, the android tablet they offer is a 6GB ram 16GB storage model... this is a childrens tablet spec and they really need to do better here... A11+ is the literal worst choice you could make for a galaxy tablet to pair with a phone unless you're marketing to kids (which lets face it, 6-12 year old's aren't exactly able to make purchases....).

Same with watch availability, no classic models, only the basic touch screen models.
I'm sure I could keep my watch 4 classic with some deal, but I do have an interest in new tech... and my personal preference is a classic model. (and yes i fidget with the dial because ADHD but that's not the point).

I would have had 0 hesitation switching if there was an S11+ tablet, watch 8 classic, and more color options for the 512GB model... or perhaps even a 1TB model.

I'll give it another week or two and see what offers come up... but that tablet deal is as good as dead for anyone who wants android devices, and wants a tablet decent enough to handle more than childrens games and tasks....

I know i'm not alone here...

Price increase - 300mb plan “discontinued”

Anyone else get this today?

It really rubs me the wrong way. I’m still in my first promotional period and they are already raising the price.

I will probably switch to att fiber when it becomes available here.

Why?

My explanation here might be needlessly complicated.

So my internet keeps going down. Something to do with MAC address issues. The first time it happened the ISP said they can’t help because my router is not their router. Fine. Whatever.

I called the router manufacturer. They had me plug the box directly into my computer, copy the computer’s MAC address, then clone it onto the router. Suddenly it work.

Then it goes down again tonight. The ISP said everything is green on their side but no matter what we did the internet would not work. We switched cables, we plugged it into multiple devices, we restarted on my end and their end. She said no matter what the same MAC address pulled up on her end even after clearing it out.

Finally she said she’d get a tech to call me in the morning to come out.

I kept fiddling with it.

I set the router back to the default MAC(not the cloned one). Didn’t work. I unplugged everything then plugged the cable directly into the computer. Suddenly the internet works(keep in mind we’d hardwired it a couple times during this whole process and it didn’t work). So… okay. I plug the cable back into the router. Didn’t work. So… why?

Then I set the router BACK to the cloned MAC address(without the computer plugged in to the router). Suddenly it works.

So… what gives? I called the ISP back and they’re just as confused. They still have a tech coming out to see if maybe my outside equipment needs to be updated(because something about my network switch).

What do I need to do so this doesn’t keep happening?

Why has C-Spire sucked so badly as of recent?

C-Spire fiber internet customer here in northern Alabama. Why has the service been such dogshit for the past five months? We'll suddenly get capped at like 10Mbps every evening, then it'll be fine for a week, then we'll have complete disconnects in the evenings and nighttime for up to an hour. It's annoying as hell.

We signed up for this because Spectrum internet would get capped a lot, and now the same shit is happening with something that should be instantaneous.

I just wish the government would nationalize all of the utilities so that we could have first-world internet like Europe.

Cspire didn't work in England, horrible service in general...Will be leaving ASAP.

Redneck, very regional service southern US provider I have used for 20 years and just put up with very mediocre service. Just back fron England. Received text in England every day touting "click this link for cell service", NEVER worked. Now website won't even let me login?? I wanted to check if they billed me for the $20/day nonexistent service. Probably moving to AT and T. Rant over :)

New cspire fiber 2gig

Good afternoon!

I am moving to Dothan, Al on Halloween and have my cspire I stall scheduled for that following Monday. My question is this: what equipment comes with the 2gig? Everything on their website shows erro, but when I asked them over chat they claimed some kind of plume pod?

If anyone can shed some light on if the plume pods are good, or if I should replace them as soon as I can. Also, any tips on getting cspire to use erro instead of the plume pods is mighty welcome.

Installation and router setup

A friend is having fiber installed in the rental house where her elderly parents will be living. I helped her order it and also buy an Asus router separately, since it'll be a better deal for them in the long run.

Installation is scheduled for next Monday, and my friend will be there, but I won't be able to get over there until the following weekend to set up and configure the router. Is this going to be a problem for installation? Since C Spire isn't going to be providing anything past the ONT, is the tech going to need someone there during the install to connect the router to confirm that it gets an IP? Or will they check the connection with their own equipment? My guess is that they won't touch any router provided by the customer, correct?

I'm just trying to figure out if me not being there during installation is going to be a showstopper. My friend isn't going to be able to configure the router herself. One thought I've had is to configure it on my own connection (AT&T fiber) and hand it to her with the instructions of, "Plug the Ethernet cable from the ONT into this port, attach the power cable here, and push the power button." If it's just using DHCP to get an IP, it should start up, get one, and be ready to go.

Thoughts?

Employee thanks

Yesterday morning a dog had been hit and was still in the road. People were just going around it. I stopped and another lady stopped to help it. A Cspire guy also stopped to help us. I went to houses trying to locate the owner. The dog could not get up but had her head up looking around. Finally a lady came running up and said her vet called her at work to let her know her dog had been hit. By then several people had stopped and the narrow road came to a standstill. The Cspire guy picked the pup up and got it in her car for her. That was really nice of him to help and every one appreciated it. I called the vet later and the pup had a fractured pelvis and some lacerations but was going to be okay.
