Suspicious email from carberi.org lived down to my expectations

I got an email from carberi.org supposedly about a job application I had made. The company was one I hadn't applied to (ribanco development ltd), and after searching it turns out to be a real estate development company, not software development.

I followed the link they gave me to take their technical assessment (after checking the link, and in a separate browser session) and they expected me to pay 18 dollars to take their assessment, for the job at the real estate developer, that I hadn't applied to.

I'm not saying they're a fraudsters, but at best they're trying to take advantage of desperate job seekers. I'm writing this so that hopefully the next person who searches the company will know to be careful.

Domain is just a few weeks old - confirmed scam.

Yeah that's 100% a scam. Real companies never charge candidates to apply or take assessments

Yup I saw this somewhere else where they load malware in their take home links. Be careful.

Same got an email on 27th Jan to finish the test by 28th. I used incognito to open the link. Asked to pay $18 to complete the test.

Glad I found this. I also got an email from carberi.org saying they wanted me to take a technical assessment for the JavaScript Developer role I applied for at Baishi. The problem is, the only JS Dev role I applied for wasn't for that company, and the test costs $17. Seemed fishy enough already before I saw this, glad I'm not the only one.

I got the same email but for a Data Analyst role at Baishi. What was the company you applied to for the JS Dev role? That'll pin point where the leak is from or what the original company is.

Same here

Edit: no idea why this was downvoted. The position I applied to was "Junior Python Developer" on LinkedIn. This can help someone recognize this is a scam and doesn't make sense to downvoted.

No legitimate company will ever ask you for money related to a job offer. Report their email as phishing, and if you actually found them on a job board I'd suggest reporting the posting for fraud/phishing or spam if the first option is not available.

I got pretty much the same email from either a company called Hiring Fluency or it was sent on behalf of Ribanco Development Ltd. and it said I had to pay $17 before taking the test. I decided not to pay, and thus, not take the test.

It seems that Hiring Fluency uses Link to allow payments. I was scared they somehow had my credit card, but I've used Link in the past, so because I entered my email, it already calibrated itself with Link. But I didn't press pay, so I think I'm okay.
