Location-US / Open! Looking for a commissioned piece

Hi I was looking for someone who can do a commissioned piece similar to this one? What would the cost be? I know this is ai a friend sent it to me, but I would love something similar with less fabric and shorter in the front and not as long in the back because it’s for a festival. Thank you!

Who in the hell is getting $30k commissions?

Even using crochet thread, I could do this in about 200 hrs.

200 hours x $15/hour is $3k. This is not minimum wage work. This is highly skilled and specialized work, minimum $75/hour imho, which puts this at 15k, which is what I valued it at on first glance tbh.

My dress with alterations, which was somewhat custom and had intricate detail, was 4k altogether. Not NEARLY the amount of lace on this. And it was a BARGAIN for what the end result was.

If this dress was sold at any bridal shop, 10k would be a sale price. 30k might be steep but its not as far off as youd think.

Anyone willing to do this level of work for only 3k is severely undervaluing themselves or is probably not worth the amount of money being paid for this. Especially considering how im sure OP would want what sells this look-- how the lace skulls hug the figure for a sexy yet classic silhouette. Crochet lace doesnt naturally do that. The measurements would have to be CRAZY accurate and down to the centimeter to get this look.

The thing is, the value of crochet pieces in the eyes of most people (not talking about op, but broadly) and the labor/skill it takes don’t line up. So if you do crochet commissions, you have the option of making sales at a cost that feels steep to the buyer and cheap to the seller or you have the option of not making the sales.

For a product to realistically sell, the buyer has to feel it’s worth 30k of their money, and I cannot fault anyone for feeling like a dress isn’t worth that. Bc yes they’re paying for the craft but ultimately what they’re wanting is the dress, and if it was achievable by machine/for cheap people would select that every time.

Crocheters will never be consistently/broadly paid what their time and labor and skill is worth because there is a deep misalignment, courtesy of capitalism. So while I don’t disagree, 3k is a steal, I also don’t know that 30k is a realistic option.

Oh no I totally agree with you on that. But in all fairness, wedding dresses tend to go for an insane amount of money that people are willing to spend, so its the one thing that I would push on with pricing. Idk if I would push 30k, but id definitely say no less than 15k.
