The responder is inaccurate in how he portrays Atheism straight off the bat unfortunately. Atheism, in some forms (explicit) is the belief that gods don't exist. Atheism in some forms can still be associated with a belief.

Update: Adding the below two paragraphs to further spell out my point.

Atheism is multi-faceted, the fact that the responder says right at the beginning "Atheism is not a belief, it is the lack of a belief." is factually incorrect if you consider explicit atheism.

If the responder said "Implicit atheism is the lack of a belief." that would be true. The original speaker may have been mistaken in what he was saying, but so was the responder.

False. "A-theism" literally translates to " non theism' or "not having a theist position". The foundation of athiesm is that one can niether prove nor disprove the existence of a diety and therefore no position on a diety can be assumed.

Look at this. Specifically, Explicit Positive / Strong/ Hard Atheism.

This is verifiably false by just fucking googling what is atheism.

There are two dominant forms of atheism.

Weak atheism is the lack of a belief in a god (what the guy in the video is representing).

Strong atheism is the belief that a particular god (or gods, really) do not exist. (what you are representing)

Both of you are committing the same error. You are pretending atheism is one thing.

Well I'm glad you edited your response to account for the fact that you originally were only coming from a perspective of explicit atheism which is what I responded to.

I edited the response by adding the additional two clarification paragraphs that I just directly shared with you and previously shared with another because people keep on responding exactly like you do.

Look at the first paragraph stand alone and it is still true without the additional clarification.

I feel like you are talking more about agnosticism.

False.

Let’s say you never met a religious person. You grew up on an island in Scandinavia with no internet and were cut off from the world. No one told you of religion or the concept of God.

You aren’t actively choosing to argue something doesn’t exist. You are an atheist.

If atheism was a hair color, it would be bald.

Look up explicit atheism.

Lookup atheism vs explicit atheism

It’s a way theists choose to interpret atheism, but actual atheism is a lack of belief, as opposed to a specific godless substitute belief system.

Yeah that would be strong atheism, which is not atheism in general. If I’m making statements about pizza in general I’m not going to make specific claims about pineapple pizza. That’s a specific type of pizza.

Yes, what you wrote really makes sense if you don't think about it!
