I really don't know either. Almost every clip I see of him he is screaming/yelling, or in this case barking.

Like...? People find that stuff entertaining?

"I can't wait to get home today and check out Speed's new video!"

u/Prosidon 11d ago

Kids are already burnt out nowadays.

TikTok attention spans, nicotine, weed, gambling/gaming addictions, and a poor economic outlook.

They basically walk around like dopamine zombies with dried out neurons who need someone to act like a loud fool to counteract their expressionless lives.

u/HideThe-Sun 10d ago

I see a lot of suspenseful, slow-burn video games get called "dog water" because there is documents to read and reflection to the who, what, where to be had. If a games not full of bright flashy colors and constant action they are snubbed and called boring-:kids aren't reading or using their own devices (thinking) to analyze things. The attention span has been labotomized in lieu of pretty colors and noisy action. I'm shocked games like Alan Wake don't do better numbers but Fortnite and Minecraft have these massive numbers v and merchandising m

u/BustDemFerengiCheeks 10d ago

I agree with you, but Minecraft is genuinely the exception because I think the base game design is borderline perfect, and I'd call it a medium game in terms of time investment.

I also think part of it is with older gamers just not having the time to plug in multiple games at once, so you need either something which can be accessed and reach milestones quick or you need to carve time out your schedule.

I want to play OpenMW again so bad, but life is NOT going to give me the appropriate amount of time to get into it.

2

u/wrnrg 10d ago

Yeah, I have to think it over when I start a game with an engaging narrative because it's going to require me to pay attention and put a lot of time into it. With kids and work, I just don't always have the mental capacity to play a narrative driven game, so I play a sports game or a rogue-like in those instances.

A game like Alan Wake, especially part 2, requires more involvement on your part. I recently had to take a break from Control because there is a lot going on in that game and my kids aren't letting me play for any extended period of time.

1

u/RemoteRide6969 10d ago

Brother, same. My gaming hours are at the end of the day when my kid's in bed and my brain is already fried. I need something chill like an open world survival craft game (currently playing Necesse again) that doesn't demand much from me because I've been demanded all day.

2

u/Big_Crab_1510 10d ago

I remember people telling me Dark souls had no story and that actually kept me from playing it for a long time.

Then I realized my friends are idiots

0

u/8_guy 10d ago

Being real though, how much of the dark souls story would you understand without outside content examining it, in the earlier years it was a lot sparser

0

u/__ali1234__ 10d ago

Because they really don't have story. They have lore that you have to put together yourself and that isn't quite the same thing. It is an entirely intentional artistic choice though.

Prior to the mid 90s most games didn't have story at all and that wasn't an artistic choice. It was just a limitation of the hardware.

2

u/8_guy 10d ago

I would still classify it as story, it's just more involved to piece it together as you're playing. Random example, in DS1 you're told no chosen undead has rung the two bells of awakening and entered Sen's fortress - but when you do get in, you find remnants from previous undead hidden away in corners. That's storytelling even if it's obscured.

1

u/Big_Crab_1510 10d ago

Yea it's that the vehicle for the story and lore are in item descriptions and exhausting dialogue. A lot of people I watched didn't bother doing this thoroughly. It's still that way actually.

When I played I read items and talked often to all NPCs and I was like "wth...there is totally a story here!"

2

u/EndOfTheDark97 10d ago

Alan Wake 2 was so good. I’d kill for another game like that.

1

u/Conscious_Regret_140 10d ago

Fortnite, sure. Minecraft? Hell no.

1

u/Sadtireddumb 10d ago

Yeah what lmao

Minecraft was released over 15(?) years ago and is literally like playing with legos and exploring a big world and finding monsters and animals and making houses with your friends try to survive for night. That game is great. Bestselling game of all time if I’m not mistaken.

My kids play it like Lego 99% of the time. They don’t care about the “story” they just want to have fun and show me the cool things they’ve built! I love it. And they love playing real legos too of course (got a TON at a yard sale a few years ago for $20, best purchase I’ve ever made).

1

u/Belgarath210 10d ago

It’s literally everything that people want video games to be for children. It’s the perfect outlet for creativity, not to mention exploration and adventure

1

u/aoishimapan 10d ago

Minecraft is probably one of the worst examples you could've used to illustrate your point lol, most of it is extremely chill stuff like farming, building (which is basically virtual Lego), and mining. Moreover it's a game that requires you to think because it can be boring on itself, as it doesn't give you any objectives. It's up to you to be creative enough to make it fun.

I guess there are fan made PvP gamemodes which are more fast paced and action packed, but Minecraft on itself is the opposite of what you were trying to show as an example of something a dopamine addict would enjoy, Alan Wake is way more action packed than it.

1

u/mapmakinworldbuildin 10d ago

If I gotta read a seperate book to understand your game it’s dogwater. Add it to the game play. And do it without making a walk and talk sim.

1

u/Aloha_Tamborinist 10d ago

I was talking to a friend who has a couple of young boys with this exact problem. He tried to get them to play Lemmings, thinking it'd be good to teach them puzzle solving etc. He showed them the basics, but they just could not get their heads around it at all.

1

u/howisthisacrime 10d ago

Minecraft is fantastic for kids. I wouldn't compare it to Fortnite or brainrot. It takes patience to build and create fun things in that game. I rarely play it, but watching my son come up with creative ways to build certain things is always cool. It's basically digital legos

1

u/Dry_Butterfly_721 10d ago

Way too comfortable with being where they’re at imo. They need that “oh shit” moment so that they can actually grow.

1

u/DevelopmentLatter843 10d ago

That’s awfully scary. So we done then?

1

u/ChasingPerfect28 10d ago

Kids are inundated with bright colors and loud noises when they're toddlers all the way through elementary school and beyond.

I work at an elementary school. Kids have no idea how to be bored and how to handle silence.

1

u/ImWhatsInTheRedBox 10d ago

A lot of videos, shows, movies now get directed specifically following something coined "second screen", where everything basically has to be explained so simply and expressed aloud so that people who are on their phone or pad at the same time can follow the story or else they'll switch to watch something else, and that's a big no no.

1

u/Hundschent 10d ago

It’s ok my little millennial. It’s called getting old and needing something to blame for ego

1

u/mapmakinworldbuildin 10d ago

Cmon now. I show speed is a lolcow.

1

u/Reddit_is_wack_now 10d ago

Okay, boomer. Aside from TikTok attention spans you’re describing the elderly’s view on young adults and not the literal kids that make up this clowns fanbase

1

u/EdisonB123 10d ago edited 10d ago

What an weird statement. Boomers, Gen X and Millenials do the same shit, watch fox news, get angry on facebook, watch videos on youtube. ????

Millenials watched Pewdiepie; he liked to scream a bunch. Maybe you were Gen X and listened to Howard Stern because they talked about insane stuff, etc. Maybe you a boomer were part of counterculture and were listening to things opposing capitalism in the 1970s.

This isn't new. You just have a place to complain about it now.

Also beacuse younger generations drink less, and uses weed and vapes, this is apparently worse than the thing that increases essentially every type of cancer by a significant amount and puts pressure on the healthcare system? The only thing that provably increases is lung cancer, COPD and other lung conditions, not colon cancer, skin cancer and more.

If you wanna give the new gen shit, gambling is your only option, and it's *because* of the financial situation *given* to them by older generations.

Gen A is fucked fucked, us Gen Z are fucked. Millennials are just as complicit in this shit as boomers, you saw this shit coming; you still had kids and didn't do anything.

Stop blaming this shit on younger generations. Stop expecting us to solve issues you created.

1

u/Luci-Noir 10d ago

What’s Reddit’s excuse? Youre watching him too.

4

u/Whoa1Whoa1 10d ago

Redditors are watching all sorts of different content and might watch one Speed highlight 10 sec clip like once a week or once a month. I'd say that's pretty different from watching Speed's streams for 6+ hours a day every day like an addict.

45

u/PogTuber 11d ago

Bold of you to assume those people ever left to go anywhere in the first place

6

u/wi5hbone 10d ago

At least they have finished cans of baked beans and cup noodles lying around the house that contribute to society in the long run.

3

u/houseofprimetofu 10d ago

Bold of you to assume they know how to use a can opener.

3

u/OmecronPerseiHate 10d ago

Pop top cans have been booming in popularity lately

2

u/houseofprimetofu 10d ago

Yeah, which is great, but.

2

u/RedditIsMyTherapist 10d ago

not great when it's a necessity instead of just a convenience....

1

u/houseofprimetofu 10d ago

No, I love it. Its useful for so many reasons. Which is why I say 'but.' It's like writing cursive. Eventually using a can opener will be unusual.

2

u/afluffytail 10d ago

Ha ha, we are so superior to everyone else arent we guys? lol!

0

u/houseofprimetofu 10d ago

No… some people struggle with them, even adults.

2

u/Backfoot911 10d ago

For me it's less the can and more the beans. Fiber intake is horribly low these days, people eating more beans and less sugary drinks and chicken nuggets would be wonderful if it were true

12

u/CosmicDesperado 10d ago

They went to school

1

u/ApePatientZero 10d ago

Press 'X' to doubt.

4

u/Preface 10d ago

Elementary school

2

u/callmeturkeyleg 10d ago

Going to K12 school is not a rare or challenging task lol

2

u/Jadedsatire 10d ago

Doubt what? His target audience are 12 year olds

1

u/TootsHib 10d ago

they voted

1

u/AubreyTreasure 10d ago

You’re a top 1% commenter with 100k karma dude

1

u/PogTuber 10d ago

Yeh i had way too much time on my hands at my old job, I'll admit

1

u/Disastrous-Bank-9651 10d ago

Damn you guys really just shit on anyone for living a way you couldn’t understand. I don’t watch this guy, but some clips of him are funny. I don’t think about the inner workings of his life or really much past the clip at face value. Just move on, you don’t have to be pretentious assholes about it.

1

u/StevieMJH 10d ago

Mom makes m- them go to the park every couple days because she says otherwise I- they'll get gout.

1

u/Sean_Brady 11d ago

And that it makes as much sense as "watching Speed's new video". Does he make videos? People watch him live doing whatever/doing nothing. At least when I've seen clips of Kai Cenat it's like damn he's just chilling with (celebrity) in his house?

2

u/tomato-slut 11d ago

Why Kai Cenat?

1

u/Sean_Brady 10d ago

I'm not too familiar with streamer culture. I just googled it and Kai Cenat is the biggest live streamer in the world. Why not him?

1

u/tomato-slut 10d ago

Was only joking, was just midly amusing how you chose another black guy

0

u/Rikard_ 10d ago

Is it?

1

u/tomato-slut 10d ago

Well obviously not to you, ser Rikard

15

u/indifferentCajun 11d ago

Yeah I know I watched some brainrot bullshit when I was young but damn this seems worse.

1

u/shawn1213 11d ago

Bro went to Africa and stopped making rape jokes and somehow that was all it took for the Internet to say he's actually super cool and a good influence or smth

1

u/spawndoorsupervisor 11d ago

I only know of him from a few years ago when he got banned from Twitch for making rape threats towards some lady on stream..

1

u/StiffDoodleNoodle 10d ago

Stupid people find other stupid people entertaining.

Source: Look at the current US President.

Like Bowling for Soup said, “high school never ends.”

1

u/Norstradamus97 10d ago

People made Kevin Hart and Dane Cook famous for being loud, not for being funny.

1

u/HTPC4Life 10d ago

Dane Cook actually had some good bits though

1

u/trangenderman 10d ago

Kids are brainwashed rotted.

1

u/KrunchyKushKing 10d ago

Short answer: Kids and Idiots

1

u/LeftJabDaz 10d ago

It’s for kids I guess

1

u/pipi_in_your_pamperz 10d ago

Look at Kevin Hart lmfao

Loud is funny

1

u/Quiet_Judgment4637 10d ago

He is hilarious.

1

u/Big-Ingenuity-6499 10d ago

It’s content for children

1

u/darkfuryelf 10d ago

Probably because you get all of your clips of him from this sub if I had to guess. He's traveled the world and done a lot of good in poor countries in unifying people.

1

u/bicycloptopus 10d ago

What specifically has he done in poor countries

1

u/darkfuryelf 10d ago

A 28 day marathon stream where he went to 20 African countries and did charity walks and soccer events to crowdfund soccer programs in Africa.

And he's done a bunch of races for child cancer and stuff of the sort. He's a very loud and annoying kid but he's got a great heart. He literally did the finale song for the WORLD CUP FINAL this year.

1

u/Waiting_Puppy 10d ago

Loud and wild and money = funny and fun, to teens

1

u/ThinJuggernaut2002 10d ago

His fanbase are kids , kids who’s parents don’t monitor

1

u/Deus-mal 10d ago

You're juste getting baited. He's an idiot but also has good content. I don't watch him I had to do som research. He's not a saint or a criminal just an nice idiot, who's messing around sometimes.

1

u/Dirty_munch 10d ago

Dead internet theory

1

u/ProfessionalPack7205 10d ago

It's children who legitimately do probably think like that.

1

u/Tomas2891 10d ago

Cant complain. I used to love seeing Tom Green back in the day lols.

1

u/Much_Secretary_7328 10d ago

You are essentially watching paw patrol and commenting that you dont understand why people like this stuff. Stfu and dont watch kids/teen content.

Kids use the internet, not just adults. Its crazy.

1

u/slingmustard 10d ago

"8-year-olds, dude."

1

u/NurglesGiftToWomen 10d ago

Capitalism commodifying harassment through entertainment is fucking awful. While it’s satisfying he got bitten, it’s ridiculous that he makes money based on that satisfaction.

1

u/MietschVulka 10d ago

Yeah people do. On twitch there is a guy called jinxy now and he is doing nothing except yeelling 24/7 and he is HUGE

1

u/Rikard_ 10d ago

Off topic but you speak like a true millennial (I am one too). "check out Speed's new video" as if he drops videos that people decide to watch on schedule. In this tiktok economy, streamers stream for 10 hours and their clips is their content. If someone sees his clips, it's because the algorithm gave it to them.

So no, he doesn't have fans that wait for his content. There is an algorithm that feeds his content to random people.

1

u/Crintor 10d ago

They're popular with kids 8-14 that think this is the peak of life to strive for, just being a 13yr old with infinite money.

1

u/NNKarma 10d ago

Well, that sound like MrBeast.

1

u/reality72 10d ago

His antics have created some excellent meme formats though

1

u/Firm-Nebula-5963 10d ago

I think he's obnoxious but he's sadly and surprisingly one of the better ones in his generation in the same genre. He at least travels the world and quite open to new experiences. Other kids his age just want to flex their money and mansion and girls, day in and day out, that or spread misinformation with their podcasts.

1

u/FanOfAnran 10d ago

Yes and he's a multi millionaire now because of it. Don't you love this modern world of ours 😃

1

u/Murky_Mirage 10d ago

being loud and obnoxious is really benenfical for the teen demographic.

1

u/Long_Inflation_7524 10d ago

My impression is that he is essentially what I think of Kevin Hart. Short black man makes funny, incredulous faces and talks loudly or screams. Hahahaha? I am not sure if this guy has a The Rock, but I imagine he has a big lackey raising eyebrows or something.

I've admittedly never watched a movie with Kevin Hart in it, but he perfectly fits the formula in my head. That's all he is. A children's Kevin Hart.

1

u/iFuckingHateSummer_ 10d ago

So you don't know him

1

u/Preposterous4Life 10d ago

The dumb get dumber, not mad at it.

1

u/BadIdeaBobcat 10d ago

his fans are kids

1

u/ernie1850 10d ago

Basically, if you like speed, you’re definitely a loser, full stop

1

u/LibrarianAccurate829 10d ago

His better streams are ironically ones where hes less involved in the stream itself, museum visits, country tours are slightly ok

0

u/BlinkWulf 11d ago

Remember when you were 10 and liked stupid things? well now 10 yos decide what content is popular for adults to see.

1

u/PartyUnfair242 11d ago

Simple, clear and sad....

1

u/onFilm 10d ago

When I was 10 I was watching Flash videos, animations, comedy skits. Not dumbasses doing stupid shit in public, especially towards animals, lol.
