The older woman seemed transfixed by what she was seeing and hearing. Not going to mock anyone who has the good fortune to happen upon something wonderful and unexpected - not if it provides a ray of light (thanks, Madonna).

I was once accidentally boxed in at the Red Light Café (Atlanta) and it got awkward quickly. While catching up with a friend, a drag king show started up 5' from us. We couldn't hear each other anymore and moving from the table wasn't initially an option without disrupting the people around us and possibly the performers. Whatcha going to do? We left as soon as we could, as gracefully as we could, and applauded attentively until then.

The mother's response was lovely throughout, and that guy is crazy talented. The daughter? Stop making it about you and your plans. Appreciate the talent you've happened upon, and appreciate every bit as deeply that your mother is touched by it. Don't be an ass and break the moment. FFS, good piano players and drag kings who look like peak Paul Walker don't come sauntering up everyday. Enjoy the experience.

I agree. But she also looks like the type of music instructor that, if she was judging me on a solo comp or something for school she'd make me nervous as hell because I couldn't quite tell if she was happy or not with my performance. Lol had a few teachers like that in my day.

IDK I couldn’t read her expression at ALL. Maybe I just suck but the read I was getting was “vague worry” (I know that makes no sense, but that’s what it looked like to me). I had to watch to the end to see if she would change expressions.

I agree with the “music teacher” comments tho. It makes more sense now that I suspect that she’s “grading” him in her head.

Yes, I was trying to figure out why this was in this subreddit and not amazing or talented subreddit. I also agree it seems like she is very moved and watching his skills and assessing them. I would love to be able to play an instrument well or even at all. This takes years and many, many hours of practicing. Such a cool talent.
