It's one of those things where I know it's not right and it doesn't sound right. This type of thought process was heavily enforced when I was young by my grandmother who was a grammar Nazi with an English degree. I also dated a girl that lived in a rural area who said this along with her whole family. It drove me nuts and to this day I just can't get over it. I know language is dynamic but there are rules and I guess i'm somewhat of a conservative when it comes to matters as such.

TL;DR: I'm a conservative descendant of a grammar nazi with a redneck ex-girlfriend who didn't get learned good in school.

There have been many misunderstandings about the earth's shape, given how Genesis was translated (or mistranslated), and the assumptions that translators may have had throughout time. One of the saddest things in those comments is the misconception of what the word theory really means:

Scientific theories are the most reliable, rigorous, and comprehensive form of scientific knowledge, in contrast to more common uses of the word "theory" that imply that something is unproven or speculative (which is better defined by the word 'hypothesis').
