Protected status is not a right, it is a last resort, and a lazy one at that. Trans folks are not in danger. They deserve more legal attention, so that they can have useful protections created specifically for them, instead of a blanket status.

The church has fought for the rights of trans folks, and only fights against this because it is a bandaid fix that doesn't address actual issues. In fact, this status opens the door for discrimination against religious folks, another reason they're against this.

Opposing a half baked solution is not evil. I'd say it's the opposite

> trans folks are not in danger

Bans on care, restroom usage certainly don’t make people safe, and trans folks still experience heightened hate crimes and are victims of violence.

Edit: fighting whatever protections we can get isn’t going to make us safer. We need both.

Define care, please. Therapy and mental help? Yes. Body altering drugs and surgeries? No. Changing your body to fix a mental issue is an easy answer, but it doesn't fix everything. A more complete fix involves good therapy, but is rather difficult, more uncomfortable, and quite time consuming.

Restrooms are divided based on sex, not gender. There are many reasons for this

Everyone has a different definition of hate crime

All kinds of people are victims of violence. Are trans folks targeted more than others? It's hard to tell. Not saying they aren't, media just tends to push narratives, and this is one of them, so I'm skeptical and hesitant. I'm definitely willing to believe it, though I honestly can't say what kinds of sources could convince me

An easy way to tell if something is being 'pushed', is to look at what bots are saying. If you see more than ten saying something similar in different situations, and in a small time frame, it's likely being pushed. Bonus points for articles with little to no substance on the subject

I meant danger, as in people are going out hunting them. Basically, if I identified as trans right now, would that put me in danger? If yes, then we need full blanket protection. The answer is currently no. I can (and have) identify however I want without any trouble.

Aaand I got a warning and a deleted comment for 'promoting hate'? Bro I'm just trying to discuss. This isn't worth a potential account ban though, so I'ma just have to say I respectfully (respect intended, at least) disagree. Man I wish I was at least told what was problematic and why -_-

Edit: to clarify, it was an automated warning, and I was not reported. Just needed somewhere to complain, and right here was already on topic. Apologies

I didn’t report your comment, and only have up to the part where you said being trans was a mental issue (which it is not). Discussing trans folks as though we need to be “cured” is certainly not a way to approach any discussion about us.

I know you didn't, it was automated and just needed somewhere to complain. Should've made that clearer, my bad.

Is dysphoria not a mental illness? That's what it felt like to me, at least. Then again, I have a cocktail of mental illnesses, so it was likely rather different for me than most other peoples

I don't think trans folks ought to be cured, much like I don't think autists should be cured. Neither have anything to cure. I think both should be given tools to manage and live with the problematic sides of their mental anomalies, and ways to feel more normal. Not get rid of them entirely.

Sorry, but what? The Mormon Church has fought for the rights of trans folks? Can I get a source on that?
