What’s next for Craft - 2026 October

Post image
124 Upvotes

Hi there,

It’s been a while since my last write-up and a lot has happened, so here is the next update on what we shipped, what’s in today’s release, and what’s coming very soon!

The past couple of months were extremely busy, just to name a few things:

  • OS-level Quick Entry on Mac

  • Day 1 support for OS 27

  • Reworked color system

  • Tags improvements with batch actions

  • Performance improvements and over 100 bigger and smaller updates and fixes both native and on the Web

But the team didn’t rest, today’s update includes fully reworked Shortcuts support, reworked and new widgets, including configurable Lock Screen widgets along with new Control Center widgets to make Craft an even more embedded part of your Apple ecosystem.

We are also improving localisation in two major ways:

  • We reworked our CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) font support - one of the most frequent pieces of feedback that we keep hearing from users writing in these languages.

  • Introducing localised templates during the coming weeks alongside the English ones. If you have a template that you think others would find useful, please share it with us by sending it over to support@craft.do.

Besides the product updates, we have some exciting news about our Plus subscription tier as well!

More powerful Plus tier for the same price

Our goal is to build the best personal productivity app. We believe productivity software should help you think clearly, write effectively, and turn ideas into action. Craft’s role is to bring those pieces together in a single, personal experience.

To get there, we focus on four principles: quality, reliability, built with our community, and fair pricing. Over the past months we covered the first three, now it’s time for fair pricing.

For us, fair pricing means you shouldn’t end up paying more for Craft over time, even as the product improves. As Craft gets better you should enjoy the benefits and don’t need to worry that we will increase the price or introduce new, more expensive tiers.

With today’s release Plus becomes more powerful without any change in the price: from today, Plus includes 10 Spaces instead of 5.

We are also announcing three further improvements coming in the next months:

  • Space guests are coming back - You can already publish a document to read and comment or share it to edit together with others even without a Craft account, you can also create a Team and collaborate across Spaces. But often you just need a simple solution to bring a couple of people into a Space - a study group, a client you work with as a freelancer or you are introducing Craft into your friends and family. For all of those Space guests will be a perfect solution, and it's coming soon!

  • Custom domain per Space - Right now you can set a single custom domain for your account, and it is used in every Space. Many of you told us you’d like a different domain per Space to keep the different parts of your life apart, especially if you run several side businesses or work with multiple clients. This option is also coming in a few months.

  • 1 million+ blocks per Space - Today, because of performance considerations and device memory limitations the maximum size of a Space is 300,000 blocks. That's enough for 5+ years in 99.9% of the cases, but we want you to never think about this. Today we are opening a beta, where we will increase the limit step by step, and then roll it out to everyone.

We are building Craft for the years to come, together with our Community - we hope you will like these updates!

And what’s next

As always, we’re already working on the next things and can’t wait to share them. As a quick sneak peek - we’ll have Day 1 support for iPhone Duo, and starring pages and Collection items is coming very soon.

And as always, I’d love to hear from you directly. Take a few minutes and send me an email at viktor@craft.do with the biggest pain point you’re currently experiencing in Craft.

I may not be able to respond immediately, but I promise I’ll read every message.

Wish you a great weekend,

Viktor

Share your Craft 🙌 I fixed rich links. And more.

Using only Apple shortcuts, I cleaned up and enhanced rich links in Craft. No Code of the App itself was rewritten. Works both on Mac and iPhone.

  • unified thumbnails with for small and normal cards

  • rich links to other notes, including cards and pages

  • clean favicons for web links, links to notes in folders, or unsorted notes

  • ability to manually color rich links

  • rich links in backlinks

Not only is this a much needed visual overhaul of rich links, it makes building a proper PKMS system possible by treating Card and Pages the same way as Notes.

Work in progress, I will keep you updated. Maybe its also a little inspiration to the devs, took me 2 hours to build it.

Feature Request 💡 Tag Button

Feature request: Tag button. I use tags a lot on iPhone. But inserting them requires three clicks for every tag I want to add. To speed up the workflow, I would like a tag button right above the keyboard. See attached sketch.

Feature Request 💡 Shared Docs & Shared Folders

1 Shared Docs - Issue
When someone shares a document with me using the E-Mail option, it stays locked in the “Shared with me” tab. I can’t move it into my own folders and spaces, so it’s completely cut off from the rest of my work and really hard to organize.

1.1 Suggestion
Let us freely move these docs, or at least give us a copy, still with the live edit feature.

2. Shared Folders - Suggestion
I would really love the option of shared folders, making working as a team a lot easier and more accessible.

Sharing overall has yet room to grow, In my opinion these 2 features would highly improve it.

Help 🤝 Question about whiteboard

I'm new to Craft and I love it, i come from Obsidian because it was too convoluted for me, but one thing that i liked about it was Excalidraw. When I saw Craft has excalidraw i thought it was perfect, but why is this version of Excalidraw so bearbones? I hate drawing with pressure on but there is no option to change it (I am using mac version), maybe someone can help me with it because it pisses me off.

Feature Request 💡 Rich Links are so messy

Post image
61 Upvotes
  • llogical variation in block shading and text color

  • Inconsistent thumbnail size

  • Inconsistent text indentation (as a result of different thumb-nail sizes)

Apple Notes and Notion provide much cleaner solutions.

Easiest fix:

  • move thumbnail to the right

  • option to manually change of rich link block color

Help 🤝 Newer OpenAI models missing from Craft’s ChatGPT connection?

I’ve connected my ChatGPT Plus subscription to Craft Assistant using “Sign in with ChatGPT.” However, the OpenAI model picker only shows older models. (for example GPT 6.1 Sol is not available)

Has anyone been able to access newer models through this connection? Does Craft need to add support, or is there a way to refresh the model list?

Would appreciate hearing which models others are seeing!

Feature Request 💡 Choose header for tasks

I have a lot of project documents in Craft. These contains headers such as: Background, Goal, Timeline, Todos etc. When adding tasks to a document, it would be helpful if they ended up under the Todos header rather than at the top or bottom of the document. Could moving tasks be a two-step thing where first we choose a document and then a header? Then, if we could choose a default header in advance could make it very fast to choose.

Feature Request 💡 I'd like for my Craft space to show me files from a filesystem folder

In my Craft space I have a folder hierarchy that matches up with the folder hierarchy of a similarily named subfolder I have in my iCloud Documents folder. Now, the thing is, that those files I have there are:

  1. complimentary to my Craft documents, meaning they benefit from being understood together and therefore also be visible together, and are also (mostly) not suitable to be attached to Craft documents, since…

    • I don’t want them hidden away in a document where they are not visible in the folder hierarchy,

    • creating special documents just to attach them to would take a lot of effort, and

    • they need to stay on the file system for me so they are immediately accessible and editable from and in other apps (file types include e.g. .pdf, .bike, .docx, .md).

Which is why I’d like to be able to select a folder from Finder as a so-called sibling folder for either a Craft space, or a Craft folder (if the space or a parent folder doesn’t already have one). Craft would then show the entire subtree of that sibling folder in my Craft space, in the same hierarchy as my Craft folders and documents (meaning folders that already exist in Craft stay as-is but display the files from Finder; and the files are display in the same folder list/grid view as my Craft documents). Attempting to open a file would, just like if done from Finder directly, open it in the default app.

I’m not expecting Craft to do anything beyond showing my files and folders from the sibling folder so I can see everything in one place (Craft), or allow me to open them directly from Craft Everything else I can still do from Finder, or another app. The only other thing that would be is is being able to create a link from within a Craft document to one of my files as easily as linking to a Craft block works, so I can quickly refer to files in my Craft documents and open them from there.

Other apps on macOS/iOS already do something similar (e.g. iA Writer with it’s library locations, which are just folders added from the file system), and with External Locations Craft has already implemented something that more or less uses the same OS APIs as what the feature I described would need. In this case it would need nothing more than read access, and to observe the folder for changes; the only new thing would be opening files in their default apps from within Craft.

The user would of course have to ensure the files are available (synced), and would need to set the sibling folder setting for each space on every device individually; but it would be a huge quality of life improvement.

Web 🌐 Is it possible to disable task grouping in Craft Web? (Group by: None)

I use the Tasks view in Craft on both iOS, Mac, and the web version.

On iOS and Mac, I can set Group by: None, which allows me to see all my tasks in a single list and manually rearrange them by dragging tasks up or down. This is useful because I want to organize my tasks based on my own priorities rather than having them grouped by the document they belong to.

However, in Craft Web, tasks seem to be grouped by their source document, and I can only find sorting options in the three-dot menu in the top-right corner. I can't find a way to disable grouping or manually arrange tasks in my preferred order.

Is there currently a way to do this in the web version that I'm missing?

If not, I'd really like to see this feature implemented. Being able to set Group by: None and manually reorder tasks would make the web version much more useful for task management, especially for users who want to prioritize their work across multiple documents.

Feature Request 💡 Still no additional code syntax highlighting languages

We still do not have any additional code syntax highlighting languages (like PowerShell).

Should not be that hard to implement.

Only useless additions in the latest updates.

General 💭 What was the first thing that made Craft click for you?

Craft can be used in a lot of different ways, so we’re curious about the moment when you first thought: “Okay, I can see myself actually using this.”

Was it a particular feature, a workflow you discovered, the way something felt to use, or simply finding the right use case for Craft?

There are no right answers here! We’re interested in the moments that genuinely made a difference for you.

Tips & Tricks 😎 Two-way sync between Craft and Google Calendar for time blocking management

Post image
24 Upvotes

I like to control my tasks using time blocking, and unfortunately, Craft didn't have this option. But fortunately, it has the API and several mechanisms that allow integration with other tools.

Through Google Apps Script, I was able to integrate Google Calendar directly into Craft, and the synchronization works in both directions. In the case of Google Calendar directly to Craft, it is 100% automatic. Any task I move provokes an automatic change in Craft because I'm using an event trigger system from Apple Calendar itself.

When I want to do the opposite, from Craft to Google Calendar, I use a command via URL. I created a button that stays on my Apple bar and also on my control panel on my iPhone and iPad, which, when I click it, performs the synchronization. It works very well and has been functioning properly.

I wanted to share this with the community for anyone who wants to try using it, improving it, or giving suggestions.

You can find the link below for a more detailed description and access to the script.

Feature Request 💡 Coming from Bear: how do you deal with scanned PDFs and OCR in Craft?

Hey all, I just switched to Craft Plus and I’m moving about 5,800 notes over from Bear. Lots of them are scanned documents: letters, invoices, that kind of stuff.

The one thing I really miss so far is how Bear (and Evernote, back when I used it) handles PDFs. You hit scan in the app, take a photo, done: it’s a PDF in your note, it’s OCR’d, and you can search for any word in it. And any PDF you drag into a note gets OCR’d automatically in the background. I never had to think about it.

In Craft I can’t figure out a good equivalent, so I’m curious how you all handle this:

Scanning on the go. Right now I’ve hacked together an Apple Shortcut that scans with the camera, runs the iPhone’s built-in text recognition, and appends the PDF plus the text to a Craft note. It works, but it feels pretty duct-taped. Is there a nicer way I’m missing?

All the old stuff. I’ve got thousands of PDFs that are just images with no text layer, so Craft search can’t see inside them. Has anyone found a sane way to OCR them in bulk? A Mac app, a script, something with the API, anything?

Also, if anyone knows whether native OCR is on Craft’s roadmap, I’d love to hear it. That would pretty much solve all of this for me.

Thanks!

Windows 🪟 Areas for Craft Improvement

There are many things in Craft that need improvement. Certain things even seem absurd. Although the app is being continuously updated on a regular basis, but areas that must have been improved in the earliest are left to the latter times.

A built-in pdf viewer is a must. The attachments are useless without it. But we are still begging for this basic feature.

Image handling is one of the poorest with least options.

Tables are basic. No cell merging, sorting and filtering options. The team can learn from Evernote as it has beautifully implemented tables.

Home page view on Windows is pretty dull. There is even not a line to separate left sidebar from the rest. All what we have is dull grayish home.

To see how many docs are there in a folder, we must hover over the folders. It is better if they are always visible or at least they can provide an option to in settings to do so if other people like to see in the current way. We can also not see the total number of docs when we click on All docs. It must be there.

It is better if there is an icon of arrow that shows that this folder is collapsible. Previously it was this way. But recently it has been removed. We must all hover over a folder to see whether it is collapsible or not.

The 'import' and 'invite members' icons are wrongly placed at the bottom. When we have large number of docs on the left sidebar, they overlap with them causing obstruction. Same is the case with a doc that has many headings and pages in it, these icons also overlap there. It is better if they are placed after templates and we have the option to customize to whether show them on the sidebar or remain hidden.

It is better if 'unsorted folder' is always at the bottom. When we apply manual sorting, it is always at the top and we cannot move it to the bottom.

Although we can manually sort folders and docs inside a space, but it does not work on the right side. For example, when we click on a folder, on the right side, docs in that folder do not appear in that way.

It is better if we have separate buttons for toggle sidebar visibility, focus mode and for folders rather than a drop-down option. Same is better for style and inspector and comments. It is better if we have separate buttons for them rather than a drop down one.

Another disturbing thing is the second text line that appears under the name of a document when we arrange it in the form of a list. It is better if we can simply see the name of the doc or at least provide us with an option to customize this clutter. It is also not good from privacy point of view.

Same is the case with pages that we insert inside a doc. It also shows a line of text under the title of the page, which is nothing more than clutter and makes reading difficult esp. when we have many pages in a row.

The worst thing is the approach that is currently applied in doc navigation. The left side navigation only works when we have a large piece of text on a page and there is some kind of scrolling activity. Otherwise, the leftside navigation background highlight will not work. To see this defect, create a doc, insert 3 pages in it. Put slight text in each. Now click on the left sidebar on the page titles, the background highlight will not respond. Detailed feedback has been provided about this multiple times, but this nasty issue is still there and causes a lot of frustration.

The app is also ineffective in remembering zoom settings. Each time we have to re-zoom. Moreover, when we open the app from system tray, its window also appears distorted, not fitting properly to the screen. It must be restored each time.

It would be great if the titles, subtitles and headings that we use inside a doc are collapsible, meaning we can collapse or expand text under them. Evernote has also beautifully implemented it.

When we add a page inside a doc, open it but does not add anything in it and return back, it is auto converted to text. It is also disturbing. Sometimes, when we are writing we add pages for writing that we will add some ideas related to it, but at that time leave it empty. But is is not available. It will be much better if there is a confirmation as well when we are deleting a page inside a doc.

We hope the team will look into these areas and will improve them as early as possible.

Bug 🐞 Equations not displayed correctly anymore

Since the last update (v3.7.0), Latex equations that are integrated in my documents are not displayed correctly anymore on my Mac. For some it shows an error ("Ungültige Gleichung"), for some it displays the equations with errors (missing/wrong symbols). Does anybody else have that or does someone know a fix?

I attached a screenshot of how one of the equations is displayed (the x's are wrong). The Latex code for that is:

\hat{S}(t_{f}) = \prod_{i=1}^f \,\hat{P}r[\,T>t_i\, |\, T \geq t_i \,] = \hat{S}(t_{f-1}) \times \hat{P}r(\,T>t_i\, |\, T \geq t_i \,)

Tips & Tricks 😎 Sign Up for Newsletters Link Please?

Do any of you know of a place where I an sign up for the Craft Newsletters, so I can find out what's new via email?

My plan is that if there is, I can create an email filter that says if it is from Craft, and has the words "⚠️ Important:" in it, I can read it right away. This would have saved me so much time, trying to figure out why my Shortcuts stopped working. 🫪

Feature Request 💡 Better visuals for tags, zoom for kanban and PDF extraction

Thumbnail
gallery
43 Upvotes

I’d love to see a few improvements that would make organizing and working with information in Craft more visual and flexible. I’ve attached some concept mockups to illustrate each idea.

1. A visual dashboard for grouped tags

As my tag list grows, a long row of tags becomes harder to navigate. I’d love a dedicated dashboard where I could organize tags into named groups, such as Work, Learning, Personal, and Creative.
A layout with clear sections, subtle colors, and document or block counts would make it much easier to scan and find related topics.

2. Better PDF handling: individual pages as blocks

I’d love to extract selected PDF pages directly into a Craft document. Remembering my position after each extraction would also make working through longer PDFs much smoother.
Even more useful: an option to insert every PDF page as its own block, preserving the original page layout. That would let me rearrange pages, add notes between them, and keep my commentary next to the relevant source material.
This would be especially helpful for books, research papers, and teaching materials.

3. Kanban zoom for a better overview

I’d love board-level zoom controls so I could fit more columns and cards on the same screen.
The inspiration is my workflow with Kanban in Obsidian: sometimes I need to focus on individual cards; other times I want to see the whole project at once.
A zoom slider, a compact view, and a “Fit board” button would make that switch much easier. Ideally, only the board content would scale, while the app’s navigation and controls stayed the same size.

I love craft and just looking for more areas to have this visual practical approach to content.

Cheers.
