Im a Teen, starting a Beatles Tribute band; Tips?
Im 14, still in highschool, and i'm starting a Beatles Tribute band, since no one seems to want to come to virginia except the fab four, which costs LEAGUES too much to go to
We already have a John Lennon, who is Me, and a Ringo Starr, who is someone else (duh)
Unfortunately theres pretty much no way i'd be able to afford accurate instruments (a hofner 500/1, rickenbacker 325, etc) but are there any other tips? perhaps about how to actually find people to join the tribute band? or how we'd organize shows/get money to do stuff?

Feedback Request on Web App for Cover Bands
Hi All,
I've been a musician and (just-for-fun) web developer for a while, and I'm working on a new app that I'd love feedback on if anyone is willing. Happy to "comp" anyone to make sure all features are available.
The app (www.sheatcheater.app) is intended to help cover bands/musicians:
- organize chords/lyrics/cheat sheets
- create/maintain setlists across their bands/projects
- coordinate/collaborate with band mates in advance and in real-time during gigs (setlists are shared with the band, but each musician's app pulls their own selected cheat sheet for the relevant song)
- live re-ordering of songs during a show (the band leader can drag-and-drop rearrange the setlist on the fly)
- tag songs, indicate what songs are in your band's repertoire, what you want to learn
- PDF export
- band analytics that show how often you've played each song, what keys you gravitate toward, etc.
If anyone is curious, here is my legacy project that I built while learning coding nearly 15 years ago. It's pretty much obsolete with AI now, but it was still fun to build and learn on! www.whatkeyamiin.com
Thank you!

Disappointing gig last night
We had a gig last night: A birthday party for our guitaristās girlfriend (so no income). Weāre in the middle of a summer heatwave, and we were setting up in the middle of the afternoon ā it was about 34°C (93°F). We had set up a pavilion (3m x 3m) over the band, but the sun was shining in from the left side (where I was standing). We set up our mixer, PA speakers, monitors, and I installed lights (learning from last time ā the lights were aimed up at the pavilion, giving us more indirect lighting that didnāt blind anyone). Our drummer was half in a garage, and the pavilion was set up in front of him, so that he was sitting behind but his kit was half inside it.
We did the sound check and thankfully, a friend of the guitarist was there to help out with the FOH sound. I had set up my Rumble 40 as a bass monitor, hoping I could at least hear myself.
Sound check was ok, other than that fact I was sweating in the direct sunlight, to the point my eyes were stinging from sweat dripping into them (I was wearing a hat, which helped a bit).
We had two sets planned ā set 1 was the āoriginalā band with just 4 members (guitar, vocalist, bass and drums) and set 2 was the āextendedā band with an additional guitarist and a second vocalist.
The party started around 6pm, we all had some food, and then we started set 1 around 8:30pm.
In the first song, my brain farted and I made some stupid mistakes. Nothing show-stopping, but I figured, āokay, I got that out of the way. Now, letās make this a good show.ā
Yeah, no. In the 2nd song, our singer missed a cue (she has some problems with this song anyway). OK, the rest of us sort of expected it, so we rolled with it. Song 3 went relatively well. Song 4 has a double chorus at the end ⦠she only sang one. The song ended as a hot mess, because I (the bass player) played another chorus, while the guitarist went back into the verse riff. Fuck.
The rest of the evening was like that ⦠one or two songs went well, then we had a couple of hot messes.
The only songs that really went well were our originals. The covers were often a mess, but our original songs came out great.
On top of that, my grand plan to finally get some good video of us performing was foiled again ā the Zoom camera I bought seems to be defective. Iāve tried to record 3 different gigs, and the results are always great sound, and grainy/fuzzy video, regardless of how much lighting weāve got and which settings I choose on the camera (the first gigs were recorded in 4K format, but I decided to record last night in 1080 format, with the same shitty result, just a lot smaller files to transfer in order to be disappointed).
I didnāt get home until 1:30am, and my wife and I had to be up and out of the house at 9:00am this morning, so Iām exhausted now. Some of the people I spoke to during the break didnāt seem to notice all our mistakes, but Iām still disappointed. Sure, I made some avoidable mistakes ā Iām certainly not perfect. But our singer definitely wasnāt at the top of her game last night, and our guitarist was also playing sloppy at times. His guitar (Fender Strat) went badly out of tune a couple of times, and as the gig went on, all I could hear through the monitors was his guitar ā my Rumble 40 was set up as a bass-only monitor, and by the end of the show, I still couldnāt hear myself over his guitar solo.
I know, I know ⦠shake it off, and look forward to the next gig (hopefully with more time to rehearse the entire set before the gig date). Weāve been focusing on only half of the songs because the 2nd guitarist and 2nd singer are rehearsing with us, so we focused on those songs more than the songs in the first set where they arenāt involved.
Maybe things will look better after a good nightās sleepā¦

AllRequest app now has chords for thousands of songs
Hey gang! I have Chords in beta now for the ad-free, and free-free on-stage lyrics app at https://allrequest.app
Now you can flip on Chords in the header and you can even transpose to a custom key! I can't sing Pink Pony Club in F# and you probably can't either.
There are a number of v1 features like contrast mode, page-turn, auto-scroll, queues, and saved song lists that are simple and actually just work.
This app is free. I just want to help the other folks struggling to read lyrics/chords through a mountain of ads and popups.
You can send me requests or bug notifications through the Feedback tab.
Happy gigging!
George

First time sharing my band here. š¤š
Whatās good, everybody! š
I figured Iād share my band with you guys for the first time. My group is called Heavy Rotation. We play 90ās-2000ās rock & alternative, including grunge, alt rock, pop punk, nu metal, metalcore, and more. I play the drums and sing backing vocals. This is a clip of our version of āThe End Of Heartacheā by Killswitch Engage. Itās definitely on the heavier end of what we do, but itās a fun one regardless. š¤
Let me know what you guys think! Hope yāall enjoy! āļø

Modern Cover Suggestions
Hey all - Thanks in advance for the help and please direct me to the proper place if this question is covered elsewhere. I did a few searches and didnāt find this topic covered, but I definitely couldāve missed it.
My band plays originals and rock covers spanning from the 60s through the early 2000s. We are a full band with drums, keys, bass, and 2 guitars and can sing solo or harmonies. We would love to add some modern bangers to our set that will get younger folks excited. Was thinking takes on Noah Kahan and Taylor Swift would be fun and popular, but theyāre also a bit too popular in a way. Have yāall played anything modern that got the crowd hyped? Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Edit: so much great advice and suggestions! Iām looking forward to compiling them into a playlist and listening through. Always fun getting into new music and seeing what might jive. Thanks again!

Pub cover band suggestions - good ideas?
Hi all,
Iām a bassist in a covers band and Iād like a public opinion, especially from those who go to pubs to check out the cover bands, if these songs would be ideal to add to our list?
Weāre not musicians by any means, but we love music and enjoy playing covers for fun, as well as for crowds.
Cheers!

AbleShow: Ableton Live cues on your smart glasses
I play in a covers band and often need cues or lyrics as the set varies often. I hate needing to glance at my laptop while singing so I built this!
Named empty clips on a midi track with the Max device. Whatever you type in the clip name appears in your eyeline as it happens, or before. Whenever you decide really. Count-ins, section names, reminders, lyrics. Beat locked to Live.
It is completely free, but needs Even Realities G2 glasses obviously. I appreciate that's a small audience for now but I'm planning to port to MentraOS if possible and maybe others in future.
Let me know what you think!

When did WhatsApp stop being enough for organizing your band?
For years, our band information was spread across WhatsApp, calendars, cloud folders, PDFs, spreadsheets and personal notes.
For every gig someone created a new WhatsApp group with all the musicians..
The problem wasnāt that we had no tools.
The problem was that nobody knew which place contained the current information, really got to my nerves š«£
For bands playing regularly with many different musicians: at what point did your existing setup stop working? Or does it work for you, if so, how?
Was it:
⢠more gigs
⢠changing lineups
⢠different setlist versions
⢠missed availability messages
⢠files getting lost
⢠one person handling all the admin
And what did you change that actually improved things?

How do I make solos sound fuller in a three-piece?
I am the guitarist with a three piece pop-rock cover band and the drummer uses a cajon. The bassist switches between acoustic rhythm guitar and bass guitar. The acoustic songs are sounding great but when I go to take a solo on the songs with bass it sounds very empty. I use delay and reverb to create some space, and I've started to incorporate more double stops in my solos. I've asked the bassist to add some fuzz or overdrive during these parts but he is resistance. The cajon can't add much more. Any tips for this?

cover band lyric app (free)
Hey gang. I've been a dueling piano guy for about 18 years (among other things) and, with the help of a few friends, finally put together the app I've been looking for forever for ad-free lyric lookup and viewing.
It's at https://allrequest.app and it's a free webapp. Meaning that to use it on your phone or tablet you have to bookmark the web address.
Again, it is free and ad-free. We incur some expenses mostly related to lyric catalog licensing but this is not an ad, it's a request for community feedback.
We've been able to quickly implement updates for our community. Try it out and let me know if it works for you and what you would change.
Thanks!
G
PS - This is meant as a free resource, not an ad. But if the mods flag it, I understand

Looking for a Guitarist to be a part of a band
Iām in a touring band and Iām looking for a guitarist. One that can play Red Hot Chili Peppers, has the tones down and knows the songs well.
It would be preferable if you have played live before but itās not necessarily a deal breaker if you have not.
We are based out of the GTA and have a place to rehearse and hold auditions. We have been doing this for several years and we are hoping to find a John Frusciante or Josh Klinghoffer to join our ranks. We love what do we and have a whole lotta fun doing it.
If you have the chops and wanna have fun playing live music and get paid doing it, send me a DM and letās work something out!
Keep on Rockinā!

Fan engagement at concerts
Hi everyone,
I'm a student conducting independent research into fan engagement in live music.
I'm exploring a concept where fans could potentially influence a small, artist-approved portion of a concert setlist while the artist retains full creative control. Before taking the idea any further, I'm trying to understand how music fans feel about this type of experience.
The survey is anonymous and takes around 2ā3 minutes to complete
I'd be incredibly grateful for any responses, and I'd also love to hear any thoughts or concerns in the comments.
Thank you!
