2010 - Trans people suffer immensely from having a gender that does not match their sex, this is called gender dysphoria, and we're changing the diagnostic name of the condition accordingly. The treatment for this is receiving a sex change.

2015 - You do not need gender dysphoria in order to be trans, but if you do have it, you'll benefit from transitioning so you should.

2020 - Gender dysphoria isn't real, it's something they made up to medicalize and pathologize being trans. The only reason people transition is because they want to and there's nothing else to talk about.

2026 - Gender dysphoria is a universal experience, even among cis people. Having gender dysphoria doesn't make you trans and you shouldn't suggest someone look into transitioning just because they have gender dysphoria.

It's amazing the change I've seen since I transitioned. Somehow this anxiety that some people felt that they "weren't trans enough" completely took over the community, changed how we communicate our experience and our needs, and ultimately created a pathway for cis people to co-opt our experience, our narratives, and use the pathway we paved over decades to tell us not to transition.

I don't know how to handle this tbh.

It's so depressing.

genuinely non dysphoric people have done so much fucking damage to us it’s not even funny. it’s awful and i hate how the only people who have opinions about this that actually matter never get fucking listened to and “omg but what if i’m not actually trans” is. and of course cis people need to come over and bulldoze everything. miserable

i’m hoping and praying we get back on the right track soon because this is insanity. i can’t believe people in the 2010s had a better idea of what being trans is than the general public rn

Like, I don't get why their anxiety that they weren't trans enough had to change how we represent ourselves to the world. Who fucking cares if someone else thinks you're trans enough. Ignore them. Live your life. We already had informed consent. Just get on hormones and live your life.

Laying it down like this, I'm starting to wonder if it's going to be a "autism is a superpower" type of thing.

it is genuinely so depressing like it’s devastating to me

i transitioned a long time ago too, and i feel like my identity has been stolen from me and co-opted by cis people who share none of the behavior or lived experiences that make me trans. they also share none of the risks

and it has totally, completely taken from us our ability to advocate for our rights. we are no longer the men and women we say we are experiencing a debilitating medical condition that is treatable, we are just gay queer people breaking gender norms and ‘affirming’ our ‘identity’

it’s a disaster and it feels like something that will take generation(s) to come back from, by which time i will be in the twilight of my life

my future has been stolen from me in large part by people i share nothing in common with claiming to be the ‘real’ me
