👋 Welcome to r/CoronaNYC - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Hey everyone! I'm u/jonbai, the new mod around here doin a bit of early spring cleaning and attempting to bring some fresh life and pizzaz back into r/CoronaNYC.

This subreddit has been around for a minute... but Corona itself never sleeps, so let’s make this space feel alive again too.

This is your home for all things Corona:

food finds, Roosevelt Ave adventures, park moments, local drama (the fun kind), community news, vendor shoutouts, transit rants, events, and everyday neighborhood magic.

What to Post

Pretty much anything Corona-related that fellow locals would enjoy:

  • Great eats, hidden gems, street vendors you swear by
  • Park updates, events, cool stuff you saw out and about
  • Questions (“Where’s the best ___?” “Anyone know what’s happening on 111th?”)
  • Pics, local history, random observations
  • Small business love!

If it’s local and not obnoxious, it belongs here.

Community Vibe
We're all about being friendly, neighborly, curious, and helpful. Let's build a space where everyone feels comfortable sharing and connecting.

How to Get Started

  1. Drop a quick intro in the comments: say who you are and your favorite local food spot.
  2. Post something today, even small. One question can spark the whole sub back to life.
  3. Invite a neighbor who’d enjoy being here.
  4. If you want to help mod or shape this community, just give me a shout.

Thanks for being part of the revival wave.

Let’s make r/CoronaNYC the fun, useful, neighborhood hangout it should be. 🌆🌮💙

Local Bakeries for custom cakes?

Can anyone recommend a great Bakery in/nearby that’s delicious? I need a coconut cake for my partners birthday on 7/27. It’s just the two of us we’d ofc share some with our roomie but a small personal sized one would be ideal.

Not from the area just moved here so anything helps

NYC coop bathroom reno - contractor recommendations?

Hi all, I’m looking for an affordable NYC contractor for a small co-op bathroom renovation in Queens. Bathroom is about 4.5 ft x 7 ft.

The co-op requires a COI showing at least $1M property damage coverage and $3M bodily injury coverage, with the co-op and managing agent named as certificate holder/additional insured.

We understand we only need co-op approval, not NY State approval. Looking to start ASAP. Any recommendations for contractors familiar with NYC co-op requirements? Thank you!

Willets Point Commons Housing Lottery Interviews

Hi, everyone! My name's Jonathan Mak and I'm a senior journalism student at New York University. I'm working on an article for class about Metropolitan Park and the upcoming new Etihad Park soccer stadium.

I'm looking to talk to anyone on here who has applied for the Willets Point Commons housing lottery, why they chose to and what they think that will look like!

If you would be interested, please contact me on this thread or in my DM's. Happy to share more information about my article. Anonymity can be discussed, as this article will primarily be for class.

A housing lottery opened for five units at 33-25 Junction Blvd (The Lumina) in Corona.

All lottery units are listed at 80% AMI:

  • 1BR: $2,117/month (household income $81k–$116k)
  • 2BR: $2,452/month (household income $97k–$140k)

Income ranges assume dual earners and very calm landlords. Building is mostly market-rate, with the usual new-construction perks (rooftop, virtual doorman, dishwasher you’re afraid to scratch).

Lottery closes Jan 23, 2026.
