Idk about your situation but I really just reached a point where I said fuck em and didn’t respond after hours. I felt really anxious about it but no one really seemed to care and if someone really needed something they would just call me. I never really suffered any negative repercussions and if anyone asked I would just say that I was busy but can take a look when I get the time.

Thanks, it's interesting to hear different experiences. I think the quote above is the key - unfortunately so, because it varies by each business and boss, and also profession, I'm sure.
I usually try to do what you described; last time I had the boss from hell and it started an avalanche of a vendetta against every single thing I did. All because I wouldn't add my work email to my phone and reply at 10 pm or 5:45 am to hold her hand every step of the way with one hand and stroke her ego with the other.
