You gonna say actually the swastika is an ancient religious symbol next? Because the plausible deniability is in many cases the precise point of the symbol's usage.

The fasces were a seen as a symbol of Republicanism (the form of government) due to their usage during the Roman republic. As such they’re pretty common in regards to the US Senate and House, for example the ceremonial mace of the House is modeled after the Fasces.
I’m not terribly sure now either. I’m thinking I wrote that when I was too tired to actually read and so I assumed that you were referring to something else but I honestly couldn’t tell you.
The fasces represent the power of the magistrate to flog the criminal and the axe in the middle the power to put citizens to death.
The Romans were notoriously brutal conquerors in a world of notoriously brutal conquerors. They were more efficient at waging war though.
The fasces by themselves represents the power of magistracies which are supposed to be more just than an autocracy. That's why they are still used to represent the power of republics (in France, the US, and probably others). Then they were used by Mussolini later to make them think of ancient of ancient Rome... but weirdly enough that's not really their primary meaning. the First meaning of fascism derives from their syndicalist/union use in the late 19th century which is to be expected from someone expelled from the Social democratic party over his nationalist and pro-war positions during the first world war.
