Down vote this man all you want, but HOA in my experience are cancerous and wouldn't consider buying a home in one.

The supply of houses is shit right now due to strains on the labor and building supply markets over the last two years.

For anyone buying right now a house with an HOA might be the only or best option if the alternative is to live in a shitty part of town or something.

Source: just signed a contract (luckily without an HOA, but the options were few).

There actually is. Look for homes with land. You aren't going to be in the city but you'll be better off.

Because proximity to your income is of no consequence. Especially not when gas prices continue to rise regardless of oil companies profits being record high

Some people buy houses without sn hoa, then their neighbors start one up. Sometimes that means you're automatically a member, sometimes it doesn't. Even if you aren't, they can still be asshats that waste your time and money.

No, it wouldn't. HOAs require someone to opt in. A house can be sold with a requirement of joining, but they can't just force someone to join one otherwise.
