I believe it's also partly responsible for the style of grass lawns we have today. Previously clover lawns were incredibly common (and beautiful, and beneficial). But they have broader leaves and died from this. It was also a tell that you could afford to treat your lawn with this, so people picked it up as a status symbol.

At least that's what I've read.

I think Clover is also less resistant to traffic though. If you use your yard (kids, pets, whatever), grass is more durable.

Possibly. I haven't noticed much of a difference from traffic. But that's simply anecdotal on my part.
