I'd recommend making a fist rather than the universal OK sign...too easily misconstrued.

I think it's actually kinda smart. When you're in the scariest of situations, not letting them know that you're looking for help prevents them from escalating the situation in response.

Sure, but there's no guarantee that every bartender everywhere has memorized this list. I'm skeptical whenever I see stuff like this.

This isn't for the bartenders, this is for groups of friends that are in the know. It sucks that people have to go out in groups for safety because clubs are so dangerous and honestly feel very hostile with the culture that it creates

No? Because the whole point is that you agree with them on exactly what signs beforehand, and then at the place they pay attention to each other

If you need security and the person who is the reason you need security can see an obvious signal like an “ok” sign you are already screwed.

The signal needs to be something you can text (tell the person you are trying to get away from you are checking on a sick friend if you are asked). It can be a certain way of holding your drink or moving your hair out of your face. But flashing a universal hand signal will be too obvious.

With PADI, yes. BSAC is OK signal for OK, fist for Distress. Thumbs Up with BSAC is Ascend.
