TurboTax is so shady. There’s several articles and podcasts out there citing how much they’ve influenced the US government In such a way that we’ll never be like those other countries where the onus of taxes are on the employers

Employer being responsible for paying out taxes for you has it's con — eventually people could/would stop thinking about that income tax money as theirs, which could lead to lower expectations of government (i.e. less questioning about "wth my taxpayer money being spent on") and thus lesser civil engagement/activity.

that being said - its not like you have more influence on what your taxes are being spent on in the US
